The fabric was uniquely woven in a twill pattern, developed in the mid 1800 s on hand looms. The fabric was used locally to make suits for estate gamekeepers. Not until the early 1900 s did the fabric gain popularity as the mark of a country gentleman s fabric for coats, trousers, hats and caps.
