2 What Is XSProject? Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, XSProject is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of poor families living in Jakarta s trash picker communities. It is estimated that there are about 450,000 trash pickers working in this city of 13 million people each day. They picki through the garbage to find anything they can sell to make money to feed their families. XSProject works directly with the trash picker families living at the Cirendeu open garbage dump in South Jakarta. Our mission is to raise global awareness about the environmental and social impact that garbage has on trash pickers and urban areas. We do this by making and selling innovative products from consumer waste, and by using XSProject as a stage to educate consumers about conscious consumption and recycling. Making a strong environmental and social statement about the link between what consumers throw away without a thought and where that waste ends up, is key to our social and environmental programs. Our products are beautiful and unique. They tell the story of how the product was used, thrown away, recovered by a trash picker, sold to XSProject so he could feed his family, and finally given a second life as a new product from recycled material and purchased by you. XSProject uses a portion of the proceeds from sales to fund the health, educational and vocational programs we provide Jakarta s trash picker community. Since 2007, XSProject has recovered more than 15 tons of trash from the waste stream in Indonesia. From this trash, we have created more than 75,000 new products.

3 Plastic Products Recycled From Plastic Cleaning Pouches This line is made from laundry, dish soap, fabric softener and car wash plastic pouches collected from consumer s garbage cans by trash pickers. We carefully sort, wash, and dry them in order to insure hygiene and material quality. When the pouches are ready, they are cut and sewn into grocery and multi-use tote bags and other useful consumer products. The outside of each tote bag is the front of the original pouch, while the inside of the tote is the back of the pouch, with instructions for use in local Indonesian language. Our quality control always makes sure that the end products are in good condition according to our high standards. Your new tote bag may still have a gentle scent from the cleaning products, that fades soon after use.
