5 ABOUT TRIBAL SIGNATURE Empowering Women of Indonesia Is the major focus for manufacturer & retailer Anita Prasetyaningsih. It was in 2013 when Anita had an epiphany, to combine her two passions, to initially work with textiles especially tribal ikat, to create a small artisanal collection of fashion accessories and find a way to assist disadvantaged women in Indonesia. About Anita Born in Java, schooled in Yogjakarta she embarked on a corporate career in the field of engineering, oil & gas services. Anita married & enjoyed an expat lifestyle however nothing stays the same, change occurs when little ones arrive on the scene. The decision to opt out of career mode and together with her family moved back to Indonesia. Anita was ready to work Research work was crucial, so armed with ideas and camera Anita undertook travels around eastern Java, Bali, Lombok & Sumba. Her focus was to source female artisans already crafting tribal ikat fabric and those who were making fashion product, shoes, bags to cover or trim with tribal ikat. This would lay the foundation of entry into her new retail enterprise, thus Tribal Signature was born! The end goal for Anita Collectively she had built a creative resource hub for her retail enterprise, using tribal ikat in combination for a selection of fashion accessories. Anita set up a compensation program for the creative village artisans enabling them to grow into financially independent people. Working with artisans & giving back to the community is what excited her, this was what Fair Trade was about, a win-win for all. Anita s Artisans Feeling empowered by the opportunity that Anita had provided, the artisans were ready to assist Anita and grateful for further income from the sale of tribal ikat products. This was the dream Anita had and now she is living her dream.
