30 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Question: Are Welcome/Orientation events required? Answer: Yes. All events scheduled June are mandatory for new students. These events have been carefully planned to orient our new students to AMDA and their new homes here in Los Angeles. Additionally, students will be completing required demonstration/placement activities that will determine their first semester class schedule. If you have any conflicts, call the Admissions Office at Frequently Asked Questions Question: When will I receive my class schedule? Answer: Class schedules are viewed by students via their online student portal. Login information is provided to new students through prior to Orientation Weekend. Students may start to view their tentative schedule once they have received log-in information. A variety of placement testing/ demonstration activities are required during orientation that will affect and revise their class scheduling. Students are asked to view their class schedules up to the Sunday prior to the start of the semester to view the most updated schedule of classes. Question: Where is AMDA Los Angeles located? Answer: AMDA is located at 6305 Yucca Street, one block north of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. The entrance to AMDA can be found on Yucca Street, just west of Vine. The campus is composed of buildings including a historic art deco tower, where classrooms and administrative offices are located. Residential bungalows and apartments are designed for student housing. The AMDA campus is located in the heart of Hollywood below the famed Hollywood Hills, an area rich in entertainment history and a legendary tourist destination. Nearby landmarks include the Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards), the Pantages Theatre, Capitol Records, the famous Hollywood and Vine intersection, Paramount Studios, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers Studios, NBC and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. World-famous Southern California beaches are a short drive away. Question: Can I plan to work while attending AMDA? Answer: It is feasible; however, we recommend that students not work during their first semester. Students need time to become acclimated to their new environment and focus on the rigorous program at AMDA. Students who choose to work while in school can generally work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, for an employer who offers a flexible schedule. Remember that your work hours cannot interfere with your course of study at AMDA. Students planning to work, either at AMDA or in the private sector must bring either their U.S. Social Security card or U.S. birth certificate, together with a photo ID (such as a state driver s license, state ID card or school photo ID). A U.S. passport or Permanent Resident Card (with photo) alone is also acceptable for the purpose of eligibility to work. Question: Does AMDA offer on-campus employment? Answer: AMDA participates in the Federal Work-Study Program that is subsidized by the United States Government, and also has a Work-Scholarship program that is funded by the school. Students cannot apply for on-campus employment prior to their arrival at AMDA. Applications will be available after classes begin. It is best to anticipate using these funds for living expenses rather than for tuition or housing costs. You must be a currently-enrolled student to be eligible to work on campus. 28 AMDA LOS ANGELES SUMMER 2014 ORIENTATION

Question: Can I have cable, telephone or highspeed internet service in AMDA student housing? Answer: Students living in on-campus housing can have cable television and telephone services installed. Wireless Internet service is available at all facilities. Login information will be provided over Orientation Weekend. Most AMDA students use personal cellphones for their phone service. Cable television can be installed on your individual unit by calling the local cable television provider. Details on the local provider will be available at housing move-in. Internet workstations are available at both the Tower and Vine academic buildings. Computers equipped with Internet access are also available in most housing facilities. Additionally, the AMDA Café and Piazza areas are equipped with wireless internet access. Question: Can I send my belongings to AMDA prior to my arrival?
