3 3 Tradition Rogan s Shoes was born in 1971 when Jack Rogan opened his first retail store in Racine, Wisconsin. Over the years, Rogan s Shoes has evolved to include more name brands, bigger stores, and the largest selection in the Midwest. Outsoles that have been tested for traction based on the Mark II & SATRA tests. These soles have been designed with certain compounds to increase friction, therefore reducing the risk of slips and falls in the workplace. Non-metallic toe cap designed for metal sensitive areas. These caps meet or exceed the ASTM F and I/75 C/75 standards. Outsoles that have been designed to resist the absorption of oil or petroleum based products and will resist deterioration because of contact with these substances. Lightweight, asymmetrical shaped toe caps that meet or exceed the ASTM F and I/75 C/75 standards. Timberland Pro exclusive technology. This footwear meets PR puncture ASTM F , ASTM F , and ASTM F safety standards and features a flexible plate designed to minimize the likelihood of puncture wounds caused by sharp objects that could penetrate the sole. Durable metal alloy toe caps that meet or exceed the ASTM F and I/75 C/75 standards. Outsoles that have been designed and tested to withstand high heat surfaces. Soles that have this feature are resistant to melting at a minimum of 475º F. Built with an additional protective guard that protects the metatarsal area and the toes. These guards meet or exceed the ASTM F and I/75 C/75 MT/75 standards. These soles are designed to not leave marks on floors or other non-abrasive surfaces from the sole s tread. Static-dissipative footwear helps to minimize the amount of electrical charge from the body. Designed for electronic workplaces. The leather and outsoles have been constructed and pre-treated to resist acids and other caustic chemicals. 7 ASTM 7 ASTM International is one of the largest standards developing organizations in the world. They develop technical documents that are the basis of manufacturing, management, procurement, codes and regulations for dozens of industry sectors. This simply defines the gender. This indicates the compression rating of the shoe. ASTM F M i/75 C/75 EH The ASTM F2413 is the standard specification for protective footwear. Whereas the ASTM F2412 is the testing method standard that ensures the footwear has met minimum requirements. These standards specifically apply to the following hazards: I, C, MT, CD, EH, SD, PR. This is the ASTM standard number (F2413) and the year of issuance (-11). This indicates the impact rating of the shoe. This indicates any additional features the shoe contains. This indicates that the footwear provides protection from impact, open electrical circuits, and contains a puncture resistant plate. Industry In order to ensure safety in the workplace, standards for work boots and shoes have been developed. There are two major governing bodies that regulate the safety standards Standards in North America: ASTM and CSA.

8 8 Footwear construction footbed Footbeds are what you feel most when you re on your feet. They are used for added cushioning and to provide a better, more supportive fit. Midsole Midsoles are the layers of material that sit between the insole and the shoe s sole. They are used for shock absorption and have added cushion for comfort. Shank Shanks are the structural components of your boot or shoe that runs right underneath your foot s arch. The shank is what supports the foot and helps to maintain the shoe structure. Outsole Outsoles are the outermost layer of the boot or shoe. They provide additional traction, cushion, and durability. Ideal for heavy duty usage. The welt is stitched to the upper and insole. The welt is also stitched to the midsole. Then, the outsole is stitched to the midsole. Cement Construction Lighter in weight and provides more flexibility and comfort. Ideal for medium to light duty work. Upper is cemented to bottom of insole, then the outsole is cemented to upper. Direct attach Construction Lightweight, flexible, durable, and great for heavy duty work conditions. The upper is cemented to bottom of the insole and the outsole is molded to the upper, perfectly encompassing it. Upper Upper Upper Welt Outsole Footbed Direct Attach to welt construction Midsole Outsole Provides strong, sure-footed stability, long lasting durability, and comfort. The welt is stitched to the upper and insole, then the sole is molded directly to the welt and insole. Opanka Construction Footbed Hand stitched, lightweight, flexible, and extra comfortable. Ideal for light duty work. A curved needle hand stitches the upper directly to the midsole then the outsole is cemented to midsole. Footbed Strobel Insole strobel Construction Extreme flexibility and provides lightweight comfort. Best for light duty work. 9 no protection Metatarsal protection VS. protection 9 Internal Metatarsal Guards Internal metatarsal guards tend to be more popular and have become incredibly advanced in technology over the past decade. Boots with internal metatarsal guards are constructed with thinner and more flexible materials. The guard is inserted into the boot right underneath the tongue and laces. Often it is an added piece that is combined with the protective toe cap. External Metatarsal guard External metatarsal guards use an impact resistant material that sits on top of the entire boot and covers the laces. External met guards are often covered by leather or rubber for added protection. Typically external metatarsal guards tend to be stiffer, more rigid, and less flexible. Met Guards Along with your toes, the metatarsal bones of your foot are also vulnerable to injury. There is almost no additional flesh or fat covering these bones to protect them from impact. Met guards can protect up to 80-90% of the foot. There are two distinct types of metatarsal guards. Both types meet the ASTM MT/75 safety standard.
