2 Affluent Insights Report Summary: 2016 India Travel Consumer Report India has been one of the emerging markets to look out for in recent times. Having an economic size of US$2,090,706*, India continues to garner high expectations from the rest of the world. Recent studies have shown India s GDP growth hitting 7.3% at the end of 2015 with expected 7.6% in 2016*. These figures put India s GDP growth rate ahead of Asia s economic giant, China. Though there are much more environment and social reforms required of India, it is definitely a market to keep a close look out for emerging consumer trends. *Source: IMF(2015); The Telegraph 2

3 Affluent Insights 2016 Asian Luxury Travel Report -The Pulse of the Asian Traveler This India market report is based on findings from the Affluent Insights Luxury Travel Survey Fielded online in India in April/May We interviewed 307 respondents. All of the respondents were defined as affluent with minimum annual household income as per the table below: Country Affluent Definition (HHI/a) India INR 1,200,000 All respondents have travelled internationally for leisure or business in the past 12 months. 3

4 Affluent Insights Report Summary: 2016 Asian Travel Consumer Report Key Implications to Brands: Top destinations for planned trips in the next 12 months for India travellers: RANK 1 Los Angeles 2 London 3 Paris 4 Sydney 5 Dubai 6 Hong Kong 6 New York 8 Singapore 8 Melbourne 10 Bangkok Indian source travel is showing great growth and continuing potential. There has been a notable increase in optimism for the coming 12 months among Indians, 9 in 10 Indians say they are likely to travel more in the upcoming months. Indian travellers are looking for luxury. The new Indian traveller has a positive outlook for the coming year, especially in terms of disposable income, and spending on luxury goods, and are travelling more luxuriously. 4

5 Key Implications to Brands (continued): You need to adapt to changing expectations about luxury. Superior quality remains the primary motivation for using luxury brands. In addition uniqueness, exclusivity, and social status of luxury brands have increased in importance, and are major reasons for using these brands. Indian travelers are looking for opportunities to shop for luxury brands. About 4 in 5 prefer to get luxury brands outside their home city for a better selection, and prefer travel destinations where they can buy luxury products. Indian travellers are looking for something new. Whether its searching for new experiences and activities or looking for a new destination, Indian travellers hope do so without negatively effecting the environment. 5
