Your visit includes an audioguide available in 12 different languages and the opportunity to try on replica historical dresses, coats, corsets and hats. We recommend you allow at least an hour to enjoy the two exhibitions and Dress of the Year on display in the Museum. In addition to the unique collection, we also offer a varied events programme. This includes evening talks on different aspects of fashion history and creative family activities in school holidays. We are also home to the Bath branch of the Knitting and Crochet Guild. 3 Until 1 January A History of Fashion in 100 Objects The Fashion Museum Bath presents 100 star objects from its collection in the headline exhibition A History of Fashion in 100 Objects. Taken together, these objects showcase a history of fashion from the 1600s to the present day. Fashion touches everyone s life it is intrinsically linked to society and A History of Fashion in 100 Objects references moments in history, as well as more personal stories. Royal Women examines how these roles influenced their choice of dress. Exhibition highlights include Alexandra, Princess of Wales wedding dress, dating from 1863, on loan from the Royal Collection, generously lent by Her Majesty The Queen. Also on display is an ensemble of gold and turquoise velvet, worn by Queen Mary to the wedding of her granddaughter, Princess Elizabeth in A selection of royal accessories complement the fashions presented in the exhibition. Items of dress belonging to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother include an oyster silk satin ball gown from Dresses worn by The Queen s sister, Princess Margaret, show her glamorous side and her patronage of designers such as Christian Dior and Norman Hartnell. Jane Austen s Pelisse Thursday 15 February Hilary Davidson, dress and textile historian, will examine a silk pelisse (a kind of coat) dated circa , the only known garment associated with Jane Austen ( ), now held by Hampshire Cultural Trust. Royal Women: Her Majesty Queen Mary Thursday 15 March Elly Summers, curator of the Royal Women exhibition on show at the Fashion Museum throughout 2018, will shine the spotlight on Queen Mary ( ), a figure at the centre of the British monarchy for over half a century. Royal Men Thursday 29 March Deirdre Murphy, curator at Historic Royal Palaces, will discuss fashions and dress worn by Royal men, from King Edward VII onwards.

Bath Knitting & Crochet Guild Second Saturday of every month, Monthly knitting and crocheting session at the Museum. Attendees must be comfortable climbing stairs. When they were completed in 1771 they were described as the most noble and elegant of any in the kingdom, with the Ball Room accommodating as many as 800 people. Today, the building contains the finest set of 18th-century chandeliers in the world. Private Hire The Ball Room, Tea Room, Card Room and Great Octagon are all available for private hire for weddings, conferences, dinners, parties and other functions.
