1 ALL CLOTHING PROJECTS Project # and Name See Clothing Project Names and Numbers Listed by Age and Clothing Skill Level. Taking More Than One Clothing Project: Members may take more than one clothing project, but must complete separate learning experiences for each including creating a separate, complete and total look outfit. Project Progression: Projects are designed for members to progress through as they increase sewing and consumer clothing skills. It is highly recommended that members start with beginning projects and progress through the levels. Optional Supplement: 422R Clue Yourself into Modeling PLEASE NOTE HIGHLIGHT Targeted Age/Level Age 8 to 18 See specific guidelines for each clothing project. Project Book: Bring completed project book and any other required project activities or records. Project work time see each project that follows. Patterns: Bring all patterns and guides used to make garment(s). Garment Cost Analysis: Prepare a cost analysis of the garment constructed and bring to judging. Project Interview: Answer questions about your project experience including general 4-H knowledge, project book knowledge and activities, garment construction and/or selection focusing on the Total Look clothing principles. Members will be modeling their project/garment at judging. Garment(s): Bring all garment(s) constructed or purchased for judge s inspection. Be prepared to change into garment(s) constructed or purchased and accessories selected to create the Total Look Outfit for judging and modeling. State Fair Selections and State Fair Alternates: State Fair Selections made based on quota determined by the State 4-H Clothing Program. The State Fair Alternate will attend only if the State Fair Selection can t attend. A 4-H er may only be selected for State Fair with one clothing project regardless of the number of clothing projects judged or class placing. Judge s decision is final! One member may be selected to compete for the Master Clothing Award in the Jr. Category (age 12 to 15) or the Sr. Category (age 16 to 18), if this program continues. One member may be selected to compete for the Ohio Fashion Review Award. One member who is at least a junior in high school may be selected to compete for the Lloyd & Doris Roby 4-H Clothing Program Scholarship. County Events Project Pride Day Wed., July 8 th, 9:00 am 4:00 pm Miami County Fair County Fair Exhibit Requirements: Bring your garment(s) and/or educational display to exhibit in your club s 4-H booth in the Duke-Lundgard Building. Remember to cover your garments with clear plastic to protect them. 4-H Club Booth Set-Up: Thurs, Aug. 13 th, PRIOR to 5 pm 4-H Award Ceremony: Sat., Aug.15 th, 2:00 pm Thursday, July, 24 th CLOTHING PROJECTS FOR BEGINNERS PLEASE NOTE HIGHLIGHT

2 Project # and Name 407 Accessories for Teens 409 Sew Fun May be repeated. If repeating, previous project book must be brought to judging along with current project Recommended to take Sew Fun as a project before moving on to any other project including 413 Sundresses and Jumpers or 419 Tops for Tweens. 410 Fun with Clothes (Non-sewing) Should only be taken once. Members who choose to do something other than a t-shirt or sweatshirt will not be eligible for State Selection Awards Targeted Age/Level Age 13 and older A beginning project for teens with no previous sewing experience. Age 8 to 10 Beginner sewing project Minimum 1 month project work time Age 8 to 10 (grades 3 to 5) work time Construct at least one accessory: bag/purse, belt, cummerbund, footwear/shoe covers, hat, gloves, jewelry, removable collar/dickey/jabot, scarf/tie, muffler/shawl, socks/hosiery, or suspenders to complete the appearance of an outfit (pg 3 background notes). Garments such as sweaters or vests are not considered accessories for this project. Members who wish to construct such garments should do so through other 4-H projects appropriate to the occasion for which the garment would be worn, such as for schools, sports, or dress-up wear. Similarly, permanent decorations such as patches, smocking, embroidery, needlework, or other non-removable features added to ready-to-wear items are not options to complete the requirements for this project, although such techniques may be included in constructing the accessory. Complete all the activities in each of the interest areas. constructed accessory and selected garments and other accessories to create a Total Look Outfit. Be topic(s) selected from your activities. Complete all 5 interest areas in the project Sew a pin cushion as instructed in the project book and construct a clothing item from a pattern as described in the project Members may not make any other item. Bring to Judging: Completed project book, pin cushion made, clothing pattern used, cost analysis, article of clothing made (to be worn for the judge) and accessories to create a Total Look Outfit. Educational Display: Create and bring an educational display on any topic(s) selected from your activities. Garment: Bring garment constructed for judge s inspection. Be prepared to change into garment constructed and any other garments purchased and accessories selected to create the Total Look Outfit for judging and modeling. Complete all 6 interest areas in the project book (page 3). Decorate a t-shirt or sweatshirt only, using one technique from the project book (sewing a double layer patch or fusing a patch). Edges on fused patches must be finished by using paint, embroidery or other appliqué methods (pg 35-38). No kits may be used. Complete all tasks as outlined in the project guidelines section. Bring to Judging: Completed project book, patterns used, cost analysis, decorated t- shirt or sweatshirt and selected garment(s) and accessories to create a Total Look Outfit. Be

If with current project 419 Tops for Tweens May be repeated as long as new learning experiences and new skills are developed each time. If with current project Beginner Project for members 11 to 13 or younger members who have taken at least one previous year of clothing projects. Beginner project for 4-H members with beginning-level skills and a little clothing experience. work time Age 11 to 13 work time PLEASE NOTE HIGHLIGHT Make a sundress or jumper, select a top to war with it (if needed), and choose other items to complete your outfit. No jumpsuits, pantsuits, skorts or split skirt jumpers -these require fitting skills that are beyond this level. Jumper pattern selected should allow the member to try two of these new experiences: zipper, buttons, pockets, facings, trims, lining, gathers or a new fabric (denim, corduroy, etc.). Be State Fair Selection: One member in each of the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories may be selected.

6 CLOTHING PROJECTS FOR ADVANCED PLEASE NOTE HIGHLIGHT Project # and Name Targeted Age/Level 406 Clothes for High School and College May be repeated to meet wardrobe needs. If repeating, previous project book must be brought to judging along with current project 408 Creative Costumes This project may be repeated with a different category of costume selected. If repeating, previous 417-A Dress Up Outfit Day Wear Advanced Level Sewing Skills in high school or college of the current year. Minimum of 1 month project Construct at least one outfit with a minimum of two pieces or a one-piece garment with sleeves, plus some other style detail you have not tried before. The outfit should be for school activities and any school dress code should be considered. Note: School dance and prom wear should be made for Dress-Up Outfit Clothing Project 417. Complete all activities in the five major areas including repairing three items of clothing. You will be questioned about this repair work by the judge. constructed garments and selected garments and accessories to create a Total Look Outfit. Be Research and construct a costume in one of the four categories: Historical, Ethnic/Cultural, Theatrical, or Special Interest. Documentation of the authenticity of adoption and knowledge of costume history or background related to the specific costume chosen must be presented by the member. Garment should be age-appropriate and should be used for formal proms, formal school dances and/or weddings. Project should include two or more new experiences: zipper, sleeves, a variety of trims or working with new fabrics. Compare price of garment constructed to similar ready-to-wear. Be prepared to answer questions on this activity at judging. Complete all activities in the five interest areas. constructed garment(s) and accessories to create a Total Look Outfit. Be topic(s) Construct the outer layer of a lounging outfit (examples robe, housecoat, jumpsuit, tunic and pants or other suitable garments). Make/select other garments and accessories to wear with your outer garment such as sleepwear/undergarments. Wear slippers/shoes. Complete all the activities in all the interest areas. constructed garment(s) and accessories to create a Total Look Outfit. Be prepared to model your project for the judge and public. Appropriate fashion is required. topic(s) Construct an advanced level outer garment such as a coat, jacket, raincoat, cape or other appropriate outer layer. Project constructed should include two or more new experiences: zipper, sleeves, a variety of trims or working with new fabrics. Assemble a total look outfit combining garment made with other garments and accessories in your wardrobe, made or purchased. Compare price of garment constructed to similar ready-to-wear. 9 CLOTHING PROJECTS FOR ADVANCED CONTINUED Project # and Name Targeted Age/Level 425 Look Great for Less (Non-sewing) May repeat as long as new learning experiences and new skills are developed each time PLEASE NOTE HIGHLIGHT Put together a total look outfit using creativity and resourcefulness with a focus on spending the least amount of money as possible. Compare different types of clothing stores, explore secondhand shopping, learn about sales, evaluate clothing quality, and shop for your outfit while keeping records of your purchases. Bring to Judging: Completed project book, cost analysis, selected garments to create a Total Look Outfit, and educational display (if applicable) including key things learned. Be 426 Clothing for Your Career May be repeated, but a different career must be explored. If with current project Construct an outfit with a minimum of two pieces appropriate for a job, volunteer work, or interview (suit, uniform, etc.). Complete at least two alterations/recycling experiences. Be prepared to answer questions about the alterations/experiences with the judge(s). constructed garment(s) and accessories to create Total Look Outfit. Be 430M Clothing Master May be repeated as long as new skills are developed each year, and additional sources and activities are used. Previous clothing construction experience-comparable to advanced-level Plan, construct, and evaluate at least one garment different from what you can make within the guidelines of other 4-H clothing project categories. Complete at least two learning experiences and two leadership/citizenship activities. Complete all tasks as outlined in the project guidelines.
