1 carltonware.com news Issue December 2008 Happy Christmas We hope that you have a Super Christmas time and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year Cairo The Tutankhamen pattern on Carlton Ware is one of our favourites. You can see many Tutankhamen artefacts in Cairo. Two weeks ago we went to Cairo, courtesy of two free tickets from BA. The museum at Cairo was quite an experience, as was the visit to see the Pyramids and Sphinx. The Egyptian museum in Cairo was established in 1835, the current building was built in The museum has over 120,000 objects ranging from the pre-historic times to the Greco-Roman period. The museum is fascinating but appears quite disorganised with many objects little or no information. This often made part of the visit very frustrating. Two of the main highlights of the museum are Tutankhamen and the Royal Mummies. Tutankhamen was the 12 th King of the 18 th Dynasty and nine years old at his succession. The boy king died in his late teens and was buried in Egypt's Valley of the Kings where he laid at rest for over 3,300 years until November 1922 when Howard Carter discovered the tomb. Most of the artefacts from the tomb can be seen at the Egyptian museum. Carlton Ware celebrated the opening of Tutankhamen s tomb by producing a number of ceramics. They are a very desirable pattern, are rare and usually fetch high prices. The pattern contains Egyptian figures, motifs and symbols. The patterns were produced on a number of colourways: White, Orange, Gloss mother of pearl, Matt black, Powder blue, Blue lustre, Brown and Yellow. What we most disliked about Cairo was the many locals who insisted on trying to help us and then demanding money. Even a visit to the toilets wasn t complete without someone insisting that we pay for the privilege.

9 Another Generic shape Coffee Set. There were several generic Coffee Set shapes produced by Carlton Ware as indicated above. Another one recently appeared at an auction and had the lovely Scimitar pattern 3651: Geometric design of arches, bands and semi-circular shapes containing colourful patterns and flowers on mottled blue, green, pink background. Crab On page 18 of our Catalogue & Price Guide we have listed a plate with a crab. One of our VIP members, Barbara from the USA, recently wrote to us. I have just purchased 2 items which are part of this range and of which you have no pictures listed on your website. One is a plate item number and the other a toast rack which has no number. I have attached pictures you may add to your shapes list. Thank you Barbara, the pictures will be added to the web site in due course.
