The eastern part of the trench revealed a clean natural drift geology. No archaeological features were identified or finds recovered. A single east-west boundary feature was identified in the western trench which was probably evidence of land division in the Late Bronze Age or Early Iron Age. No other deposits or features of archaeological significance were encountered and it was concluded that the development area holds little further potential. Trench one revealed made ground overlying a natural river silt deposit. Trench 2 revealed only made ground. Trench 3 revealed made ground overlying an alluvial deposit. The evidence for the earliest human activity on the site composed of fragments of burnt flint in the Trench 3 organic-rich alluvial deposit. It was therefore believed that this deposit may have represented marshy ground in the immediate vicinity of a prehistoric settlement or other activities. It was recommended the site be assessed for its ability to date and identify the nature of the environment and local human activity. A number of made ground layers were recorded above water lain deposits, the earliest contained pottery dating to the 15th or 16th century. It was evidenced that the site was reclaimed low-lying marsh from the 16th century onwards. This was consistent with the documented history of the site. In each of the trenches the topsoil was removed to reveal natural which consisted of a layer of pinkish brown sandy silt into which no cut features of archaeological significance were revealed. In several of the trenches this layer was fully removed to examine the alluvial sequence, where again, no features of archaeological significance were observed. Nine features were recorded in trenches one-four, but no archaeology was evident in trench five. Three of the features appeared prehistoric in date, including an east-west aligned ditch in trench two. The 18th-19th century was represent by four features including a collapsed drain in trench three, 19th century deposits were found to seal the natural and archaeology in all trenches. An Archaeological Evaluation Report Taylor, J London : Museum of London Archaeology Service, 2003, 33pp, figs, refs Five trenches were excavated on the site. The evaluation has shown that there was very limited potential for survival of ancient ground surfaces. Undated features excavated on the site suggest there was a possibility of limited survival of medieval or earlier cut features. No features of archaeological significance were identified and only residual finds were recovered from the ploughsoil and modern overburden. These included struck and burnt flint, Roman and post-medieval roof tile and 19th century pottery sherds. It was evident that the site had been partially subjected to terracing during the developments in the 1950s and 1960s. [Au(abr)] SMR primary record number:5/232, PR, RO

Two probable 19th century pits suggested quarrying and waste disposal in the back plots of Kentish Town Road. Buildings, known from cartographic evidence, were constructed towards the rear of the plots prior to 1870, though no direct evidence of these was uncovered. A garage block was subsequently erected on the site prior to 1952, and recently demolished as part of this development. [Au(abr)] SMR primary record number:6/222

The topsoil and land drain beneath the hard standing were evidence for the rural nature of the site in the historic period, prior to the construction of residential properties with gardens in the second quarter of the 19th century. The two small pits in trench two probably dated to this period of occupation. The larger pit in trench two and that in trench three represented waste disposal of a very modern date. Several garden features relating to the late 19th century hospital grounds were identified. Several irregular features holding packed chalk cobble foundations cut the natural clay. The features formed a roughly rectangular structure. The structure remains undated but was likely to be medieval, and possibly agricultural in nature. A ditch interpreted as a field boundary dating to c truncated the masonry footings. The ditch was backfilled between the construction of the Waddon Fever Hospital and its demolition in the 1990s. The other concentration was in the south-west corner of the field, consisting of several ditches and four small pits.
