Seaman Schepps famously wrapped seashells with gold wire and studded them with gemstones. His bold styling continues to be in fashion decades after their conception. Their extreme rarity has made them a favorite of jewelry auctions and a frequent request at Kerns. Our discerning clients fall in love with the feminine color, the investment quality and the knowledge that they have chosen a rare and unique piece. Prior to the 1980 s, pink diamonds were sporadically found in India, Brazil, Africa and Indonesia. In 1983, The Argyle Diamond Mine was discovered in Australia and became the first consistent producer of pink diamonds. Today almost all pink diamonds come from the Argyle mine. Kerns diamond expert, Shimon Cohen, adds a straight pink diamond of intense to vivid color is the rarest but those with a secondary color of purple or brown can be more readily available. While impurities in the chemical structure can cause color in some diamonds, Boron in blue diamonds for instance, this is not the case for pink. The crystal lattice in pink diamonds was altered by geologiocal forces, causing it to absorb light in a way that assumes a pink hue. FROM HODINKEE.COM JULY 13, BY JACK FORSTER Happenings: Your First Look Inside The 2017 Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition in New York City Patek 5204R Perpetual Calendar Split Second Chronograph. One of two military prototype hour angle watches made in the 1930s both sized at 55mm. Ref. 130 chronograph formerly owned by Joe DiMaggio; private collection. Complicated pocket watch made for James Ward Packard. Delivered in [W]e had an opportunity to walk through it with none other than Thierry Stern, the CEO of Patek Philippe. If you're wondering what the show is like, we can definitely say as the saying goes that it's "just what it says on the tin." This really is a Grand Exhibition, with an incredible diversity of watches and clocks spanning centuries of production. Of course there is an amazingly comprehensive selection of current and modern Patek Philippe watches ranging from the simple to the most complex There are also two rooms devoted to high complications, including repeaters, astronomical complications, and Patek's signature perpetual calendar chronograph watches, with a separate room devoted to high complication movements (that has a virtual reality installation that you really have to try; it's good clean horological fun). The exhibition is of course quite logistically complex and though it is in theory a regular traveling show, it's been two years since it last went live (the last time was in London). Visiting the exhibition, you can understand why it's located inside the cavernous main room of Cipriani 42nd Street, and Patek has constructed a two story, building-inside-a-building to house the whole show. A major feature of the New York version of the show is the addition of a room housing Pateks that were owned and worn by major American figures from industry, politics, and the arts and here you can see watches owned by such greats as Joe DiMaggio and Duke Ellington, and a clock gifted to John F. Kennedy during the Cold War. Patek hasn't just brought Patek Philippe watches to New York, either. The Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva has contributed a number of rare early timepieces, the oldest of which dates to the early 1500s and the very birth of watchmaking itself. If you're interested not only in Patek, but in the social, cultural, and technical history of timekeeping itself this is a must-see. Vintage Watches, classic styles for watch enthusiasts. 22 FROM HODINKEE.COM APRIL 4, 2017 Editors' Picks The Best Complicated Watches of Baselworld 2017 [Back in March] our editors offered up their picks for the best everyday watches of Baselworld The goal was to pick timekeepers that you could ostensibly wear, well, every single day. You'll notice that in all cases, those watches had just three hands (one even had a date window gasp!). Today we're going for something completely different. From unusual alarms to accurate moonphases to a totally new kind of chronograph, here are our editors' favorite complicated watches of Baselworld Cara Barrett Rolex Cellini Moon Phase The biggest surprise for me was the Rolex Cellini Moon Phase. I had never given the Cellini a second thought but when I saw the Moon Phase for the first time I was smitten. Sure, it's only a moonphase, not some crazy new complication at work here, but in classic Rolex fashion this one has an automatic movement that is astronomically accurate to one day every 122 years. Additionally, it has that vintage feel that I love, but with a fresh take This watch is sure to be a classic and is a clear winner for me. Jack Forster Fabergé Visionnaire Chronograph The most forward-thinking complication I saw this year was a new chronograph movement from a totally unexpected source: Fabergé The AgenGraphe chronograph movement in the Visionnaire chronograph is the brainchild of noted watchmaker and complications specialist Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, and its host of innovations include the creation of a central chronograph module with a never-before-seen lateral friction clutch, as well as a novel reset mechanism, amongst others. CUT it OUT Really. Grab your scissors and a little bit of tape and cut along the dotted line. We thought it would be fun to let you try on a few beautiful pieces at home. A word of advice; be sure to check the back side of each page first, you don t want to accidentally chop up another favorite! Stephen Pulvirent Patek Philippe Ref. 5320G I'm a firm believer that simplicity is often more difficult and interesting than complexity. But complexity done simply? Yeah, that's the best. The ref. 5320G is a new perpetual calendar from Patek Philippe that threads that needle perfectly. The creamy lacquer dial with the applied Arabic numerals, the stepped lugs, and the clear indications for the day, date, month, leap year, day/night, and moonphase are a winning combination [T]his watch feels firmly of today, not like some nostalgia trip gone wrong. Arthur Touchot Rolex Sky-Dweller In Steel I ve never been a big fan of the Sky-Dweller. The functionality of a second time display and extremely clever (and discreet) annual calendar makes it one of the most appealing watches out there, but the dial always felt a little too cluttered to me. The new version of the Sky-Dweller is much lighter, physically and visually, thanks to two simple switches: The oversized numerals have been replaced by short baton indexes and the watch is now available in stainless steel instead of just shades of gold [T]he complications are more than ever the focal point of the Sky-Dweller. Louis Westphalen Hermès Slim d'hermès L'Heure Impatiente L'Heure Impatiente represents everything that I love about Hermès. It doesn't show off, but offers something truly unique in a very elegant package. Take this watch's chime anticipating a happy moment, set by the wearer and only audible to the wearer, it is a much more playful take on time than a traditional alarm This watch proves again that Hermès does not take watchmaking lightly and always adds its own spin. Fancy yellow and white diamonds pair perfectly together. Necklace features round and baguette cut diamonds accented with 5 pear shape fancy yellow diamonds, over 24 carats in all. Bracelet alternates oval shape white diamonds with cushion shape fancy yellow diamonds, almost 13 carats in all carat fancy yellow diamond ring is flaked with graduated trapezoid white diamonds and a semi-halo of round full cut diamonds

24 Inspiration along the River Nile Platinum bracelet and earrings with diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and rubies. The earrings feature 4.60 carats of diamonds meticulously accented with channels of vibrant green emeralds. The one of a kind bracelet is comprised of 877 gemstones in an Egyptian motif. It is best described by its designer: This extraordinary bracelet depicts scenes from Ancient Egyptian Mythology. In the center is the Solar Barge with the Scarab Beetle lifting the Fiery Sun, the Supreme God Ra with the Falcon Head and Osiris, God of the Underworld. This is the representation of the Sun traversing the sky from the East to the West every single day.
