2 Taking part for the first time in the prestigious Frieze Masters London exhibition, the Brusselsbased dealer Gisele Croës will present a selection of outstanding objects spanning several centuries and illustrating the richness and variety of Chinese culture. For many years the ritual bronzes have become signature pieces of the Gallery. The show will include a set of spectacular pieces: a bronze wine vessel gu dating from the late Shang dynasty, with a remarkable provenance; an imposing bronze bell bo, a unique bronze figure riding a mythical beast, and an unusual tripod silver incense burner from the Han dynasty (106 BC-AD 220). In Chinese culture, the wearing of personal adornments always had enormous importance in terms of social status and expression of power. The London show will present a number of exquisite pieces such as hooks (Daigou) and hairpins, remarkable for their intricate decoration and highly charged symbolic message. They are also a reflection of the creative freedom enjoyed by the artists active between the Warring States period and the Han dynasty. Another top-quality item in the exhibition is a magnificent pair of monumental cloisonné enamel double-gourd palace vases and covers, dating from the Qianlong period ( ). It qualifies as a truly Imperial masterpiece. Scholar s rocks have been increasingly sought-after over the last decade and visitors of the exhibition will admire a fine example likely to appeal to both Western and Eastern tastes. For the past forty years the Gallery Gisele Croës Arts d Extrême-Orient has been promoting the understanding and appreciation of Oriental art, developing long-time friendship with collectors and collaborations with a number of museums. Since 1976 Gisele Croës has participated in major international fairs such as the Biennale des Antiquaires, Paris; the European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF), Maastricht; or Asia Week in New York. She has also been present in younger and innovative fairs such the Shanghai Fine Jewelry and Art Fair. In October 2018 she will exhibit for the first time at the renowned Frieze Masters London. Over the past five years, Larry Gagosian and Gisele Croës have developed an exciting collaboration resulting in spectacular exhibitions during Asia Week New York, and Hong Kong. From the early ages of Chinese culture to the third millenium, bridges are being built between China and the western world.
