7 rd 43 Annual General Body Meeting from the PRESIDENT S DESK... Dear Friends, This is my first year as the President of JAB and my journey in JAB has been very challenging yet magical from 12 years. Since then I have faced 4 consecutive elections & your support has never let me detach from JAB. It seems like just a couple of years. I can't really remember how the last decade passed by. This journey has not been just about my involvement in JAB's transformation but it has more to do with how I have evolved too. From being elected as a Director, then privileged to serve as the youngest Joint Secretary for 6 years, and then as the youngest Hon. Secretary for 3 years and now as the youngest President to one of the oldest and pre-independent jewellers' association of India. My seniors gave me the opportunity to steer JAB to the next level with a bigger challenge as we had exhausted all the funds in acquiring a property last year. We have tried to do the best possible with all the little resources that we have now. I've been extremely fortunate and blessed to have got all the motivational support and trust from the JAB members whom I consider to be my brothers in the trade. My dream was to see JAB being recognised across the globe and I'm sure that it is achieved to a great extent, as we all know that JAB is one of the very few jewellers' associations in the country to be recognised by the State and Central Governments amidst 100s of similar associations. Today, our PM Sri. Narendra Modi is striving hard towards making India a digital country and apparently I had to convince my seniors in the board very hard to move towards digitizing JAB a decade ago. Fortunately, with their support I could be a part of elevating and transforming JAB to what it is today. This year, as the President it was quite daunting since the timing clashed firstly with demonetization and then with the introduction of GST which is a raw and new tax reform that is said to play a major role in changing our country's economical status. This year, we also saw the IDS (Income Declaration Scheme) that was offered by the Income Tax Dept. which is said to be a no-questions asked scheme offered to declare unaccounted assets. Then we saw PMGKY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalayan Yojana) scheme which was again an opportunity given to declare the unaccounted cash deposits made during the demonetization period. This year we had series of educational seminars with regard to IT schemes and GST laws. We will have more of these events in the coming months too. I humbly thank all the members of JAB and my fellow board members for trusting me and giving me an opportunity to serve this prestigious organisation as the President. I would also like to thank my seniors for their guidance and support in helping me, do whatever I have been able to for JAB till date. 'Let me define a leader. 8 rd 43 Annual General Body Meeting THE FOLLOWING POINTS ARE BROUGHT TO THE NOTICE OF THE MEMBERS 1. Two members from a Registered Firm or a Company or a Shop who have already registered with the Association are eligible to attend the Meeting. Only one registered Member (Mahaposhak, Poshak and Life Member) is allowed to Vote in the General Body Meeting. 2. The Members are requested to bring this Report Book alongwith their Identification card (JAB ID Card) for the meeting. Please note that the Report Books will not be supplied at the Meeting. Members are requested to attend the meeting on time. 3. Any change in the representation of Membership must be intimated before 7-30 p.m. on Guests, children and un-registered representatives are not allowed under any circumstances. 5. Any Member who wants to send any subject for discussion at the Annual General Body Meeting should send the same in writing to the Manager before under acknowledgement and are not permitted under any circumstances beyond this date. 6. Any Member or his representative already registered with the Association, who wishes to contest the Election for the Managing Committee, is requested to send his nomination paper, only in the form already sent, duly signed, proposed and seconded by such Members, who are Mahaposhaks, Poshaks or Life Members of our Association. The Nomination form should reach the Manager of the Association before 7.30p.m., on The last date for withdrawal of nomination paper is before 7.30p.m., on Associate Life Members are not allowed to contest the Election. 7. 17 EVENTS DURING THE YEAR GST Seminar at Chancery Pavilion Hotel: We organised a seminar by renowned GST Experts Mr. Bhavish Mehta at Hotel Chancery Pavilion, well attended by our members who came into the ambit of GST, it was a very interactive and useful seminar, well received by our fraternity ERP & Mobile App Implementation: JAB is planning to install ERP & Mobile app for JAB Gold & Silver rates & updates regarding fraternity issues. Called software developers & discussed on software development / purchase for JAB for Members list, Event management, voting with the possibility to evolve into a B2B App in the future. The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) Scheme Meet: The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) Scheme was the new initiative taken up by the central government to harness Black money. Officials from the Income Tax Dept. conducted a seminar to explain the scheme and to educate our members to avail this offer at Arya Vysya Mandali. Meeting with Reputed Jewellers: JAB has called for a meeting with all reputed jewellers across Bengaluru to discuss regarding fixing the uniform Gold & Silver rates. Attended by reputed jewellers. Meeting with Chickpet Tenants: Conducted meeting with Chickpet Tenants regarding renewal of rental agreement. Informed them to vacate the premises & plan to shift our existing JAB office to JAB premises, Chickpet. GST Seminar at Devraj Urs Bhavan: We organised a seminar by renowned GST Experts Mr. Bhavish Mehta at Devraj Urs Bhavan. Attended by our members who came into the ambit of GST, it was a very interactive and useful seminar. Meeting with TRU: Ketan S Dhruv & Vivek B Chand were met Mr. Ahemed Riyaz, Joitn Secretary TRU & discussed with respect to GST issues & submitted the memorandum. Meeting with DGFT: Ketan S Dhruv & Y.S. Ravikumar were met Shri. A.K. Bhalla - DGFT & discussed with respect to Effect of GST on the Import from FTA countries & other issues & submitted the memorandum. 19 PROCEEDINGS OF THE 42ND ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING Held on Sunday, 6th November 2016 St. Joseph s College, No. 36, Langford Road, Langford Gardens, Bengaluru The event flagged off at about 10:00 am, with all the directors being welcomed on to the dais by Sri. Vivek B Chand, the Joint Secretary and one of the directors of the JAB. The lamp was lit by Sri. S Venkatesh Babu, the President - JAB, along with all the office bearers of JAB, marking the dissemination of light and the inception of the event. The welcome address was delivered by Sri. S. Venkatesh Babu - President, JAB. He asserted that this was the most challenging and eventful of all the years they had in the JAB. He said Though we started with a lot of ambitions and aspirations, the problem of the central excise was a great hurdle for us. It put us out of the track for so many things and we had to register a mark where certain policies were not fulfilled the way we wanted to. But, he did endorse the fact that they had a great year; that all their missions were accomplished and that the Sambrama 75 was a wonderful event that happened, and that he feels blessed and privileged to be the platinum year president of the JAB. He endearingly welcomed everybody and gave way for further proceedings. The proceedings of the 41st AGM were confirmed and passed by the General Body: Proposed by: Sri D.A. Sreeramulu M/s. Vivek B Chand, who read out their names in their honor and maintained a silent prayer along with the audience. The President offered any of the members to take up the positions of the local auditors. The previous year s local auditors were Mr. Ashwath Narayan M/s. Vivek Jewellers and Mr. P.R. Venu from M/s. Jayalakshmi and Co. The General body re-appointed the existing auditors, Mr. M. Shantala Jewellers The president announced for the approval of the budget, the budget proposed for was as follows: Staff Salaries : 13,65,000/- Rent : 3,00,000/- Printing and stationary : 1,80,000/- Auditoring : 30,000/- Water and Electricity : 36,000/- Telephone and Mobile : 78,000/- Subscription of Newspapers : 3000/- Sweepers and Maintenance : 60,000/- Miscellaneous & Sundry exp : 78,000/- A total expenditure of Rs. 21,30,000/- was proposed for the year The General body passed approval of Budget for the year Proposed by: Sri. B.H. Ramachandra of M/s. Geetha Jewellers Seconded by: Sri. C.A Nanda Gopal of M/s. Sree Gajalakshmi Jewellery Hall B.R. Ramachand of M/s. Geetha Jewellers suggested that Repairs and Building Maintenance should be included in the Maintenance category itself. For which, Sri. R Srinivas, the Hon. Treasurer clarified that an approximate amount will be kept aside for such purposes but only the required amount will be spent.the President clarified that the A/C, Computers, SMS charges, IVRS, some AMCs (Annual Maintenance Contracts) and such other maintenances too require funds. And he continued that all these are a part of inevitable expenses. Hon. Secretary Sri. Y S Ravikumar further clarified that in comparison with the previous year, the amount spent on such expenditure was lesser this year. He also confirmed that the earlier year budget for the same purpose was Rs. 10, 00,000/- to Rs. 12, 00,000/- but what was spent was Rs. 6, 00,000/- to Rs. 7, 00,000/- only. Proceeding further, a talk was organized by the JAB for the benefit of all fellowmen. Renowned surgeon Dr. Vivek Jawali shared his views on How to keep a Healthy Heart. The aim of the talk was to spread awareness regarding: Prevention of Heart diseases campaign, and Nationwide drive on stimulating the sentiments on Organ Donations. The Fortis Hospitals had also organized a Health Checkup Camp at the venue. In this occasion, it was also announced that, in association with the Fortis Hospitals, JAB had tied up with them and together they had launched a privileged card for all the members and their families. With this, the privilege card holders would become eligible for a 25% discount on all the Fortis Hospital expenditure. This privilege card was unveiled by Dr. Jawali. He was honored with a token of appreciation and was thanked for his invaluable time and inspirational words. Sri. Y S Ravikumar, the Hon. Secretary of JAB, shared the glimpses of the events of the platinum jubilee year: Firstly, he spoke about Sambrama 75 - The Platinum Jubilee Celebration. He proudly called it the biggest or mega event ever organized by the JAB and that it was a roaring success. That it was held on Sunday, 2nd October 2016 at Elaan Convention Hall which was presided over by his Excellency Sri. Vajubhai Vala, the Governor of Karnataka. 21 of JAB and top achievers of Karnataka in this trade. This had been followed by talks by Swami Sukhbodananda and Sri. Deepak Shinde. He reiterated that the evening was electrifying with singer Vijay Prakash s concert and a glamorous fashion show, choreographed by Shilpa Chaudhary and thirty stalls displaying jewellry and other products. Another eminent step he mentioned was the buying of the property in the name of JAB. Its accomplishment being coincidental with the platinum jubilee year, also mentioned about the way the central excise taxation was dealt with nationwide by the entire jewelry fraternity. He reinstated that it was yet another historical movement. And that there was a seminar held regarding this at The pride Hotel, a meeting with Legal Meteorology Department regarding one milligram accuracy imposed into gold trade. He also mentioned about the Gold Metal Loan offered by a few banks. He extended his gratitude to various diversified Associations like Goldsmith Association, Silver Smith Association, Gem Stone Association, Silk Merchant Association, Viswakarma Association, Hard-line Association, etc who had aligned and extended great support. He enthusiastically remembered that the JCL Cricket Tournament had brought together a lot of jewellers. He said that the friendly game played by 120 players marks the celebration of a true sportsmanship and the invoking of a bond among all people. The Presidential speech was delivered by Sri. S Venkatesh Babu. He began by being reminiscent of the time thirteen years ago when Sri. P.V. Mahesh, Sri. G.V. Sreedhar, Sri. Vivek B Chand and the President himself requested people for their valuable votes and support in order to be elected as the directors of JAB. He asserted that he has gained more from JAB than what has given to it. He expressed immense gratitude to all the people who have made it a huge success. He specially mentioned about the Swachh Bharath initiative, tying up of JAB with various merchant associations; the release of The Coffee Table Book, he acknowledged Sri. Ketan S Dhruv of M/s. Bangalore Refinery s contribution in this regard who was also the Chairman for this event, he expressed his deep happiness and gratitude towards Sri. B.H. Ramachandra, Sri. T P Nagaraj, Sri. P.V. Mahesh, Sri. G.V. Sreedhar and Sri. Vivek B Chand for their dedication and support. Mr. D.A. Sreeramulu M/s. Sri Gurukrupa Jewellers commented that on page 33, #1023 of the JAB AGM Booklet, there was a typo error called Wicked Yogi but the management committee clarified that it wasn t an error but the company s name. Sri. B.R. Ashok Kumar - M/s. Geetha Jewellers paid his due respects to the board; he said that the board was such that it may or may not be recreated. Sri. T P Nagaraj reinstated his letter that Sambrama-75 was a grand success and conveyed his best wishes to JAB and prayed that it may receive nationwide fame. Sri. President himself read out Sri. T. P. Nagaraj s memorable letter. Sri. D A Sreeramulu and Sri. B.H. Ramachandra too shared their happiness about the Association and its events. Suggestions were made that the Association should play Kabaddi the following year. As a feedback of the Coffee Table Book, Sri. Sriram Setty of M/s. Vasuvamba Jewellers, pointed out that: Some more old photographs should have been collected and printed, like the Gold Control event that took place in 1963, which was published in a newspaper. To this, Sri. S. Venkatesh Babu reciprocated stating that he had made an attempt for this with the same. He further said that if such information and pictures were voluntarily provided, would be well appreciated. The President S. Venkatesh Babu read out the letter from M/s. Ganjam Nagappa and Sons which congratulated the concept and organizing of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration. He furthered that, the Platinum Plaza faced a challenge during the year. The challenge was to raise a fund of Rs. 1,20,00,000/- in addition to the fund of Rs. 3,00,00,000/- that was kept aside for the purpose. 22 as a blessing in disguise which came from the cumulative interest earned on that fund. An amount of Rs. 30,00,000/- was collected from the sponsors during Sambrama 75. Sri. Suresh S Dhruv came forward to give a loan of Rs. 9% interest. Sri. President also announced that the present board will try and return Rs. 20,00,000/- loan amount in his tenure and the remaining Rs. 20,00,000/- will have to be repaid by the upcoming one. He welcomed volunteers to contribute the due sum of Rs. 20,00,000/- towards the building fund, if someone wished to donate. In this regard, Sri. R Srinivas, the Hon. Treasurer, opined thus: If all the five floors or at least four floors of the Platinum Plaza will be rented out, retaining one floor for the association, then the rent that will be generated from the rest of the floors, will make up for the repayment of the interest as well as for the expenses that were being met through the collection of interest amount which was until then getting accumulated on the fund. Hence, he requested everyone to facilitate in letting out of the rest of the two floors on rent. Further proceedings were taken over by Sri. Y S Ravi Kumar. He convened felicitations of the JCL trophy. The DHPL SPOT Winners trophy was given to Sapphire team headed by M/s. Prakash Jewellers. The winners were honored by the President and the other directors. Player mementos were given to all the 120 players who participated; this trophy consisted of a 20gm coin, sponsored by M/s Vaibhav Jewelers. The felicitation honors were done by Sri. Sanjay of M/s. M P Swarna Mahal. 5gm coins were given as a special appreciation to exceptionally well played players by JAB. Sri. Y.S. Ravikumar also expressed his deep gratitude to the four stalwarts who are exiting the board and said that they are like the four lions that are there on the Ashoka Pillar. He thanked them for their invaluable guidance and tireless contribution. Sri. D.A. Sreeramulu, Sri. T.P. Nagaraj and Sri. B.H. Ramachandra felicitated these outgoing directors. This turned out to be a very memorable and emotional moment to those who honored them as well as those who were honored. These veterans shared their views about these four directors. To begin with, Sri. D A Sreeramulu said: This is not going to be the conclusive function, this is one of the most cherished functions. The same spirit of comradery should go throughout the association and thus bring it to great heights. Sri. B.H. Ramachandra remembered that all the four people when they won the elections thirteen years ago, took a picture in the same way as today together with himself. He also mused that they all have served relentlessly and are exiting together without leaving anything undone or incomplete. He further expressed that the same four people will return again and assume the same positions and serve yet again. Sri. T P Nagaraj put forth his views of contributing in social work by rendering support through a charitable trust. He announced that his contribution for this purpose would be Rs. 5, 00,000/-. He asserted that such a charitable foundation will take JAB into nationwide glory. The President acknowledged this view and affirmed that this idea is already under discussion and will soon be progressed. Sri. D.V. Ramesh volunteered to take leadership of this task provided permission was sought to make this trust. The auditor clarified on the spot that the trust is existent for all practical purposes and also that if all the conditions and expectations of the income tax dept. are met, then availing 80G is easy. A suggestion was also made that this should be entrusted as a separate entity under JAB. And that the income that generates from this trust should be used only for charity purposes and none other. All the four outgoing directors shared their happiness and experiences they had with JAB and its members. They admired that it is one of the prestigious and well-knit Associations of the country. Sakala Narsimulu Chetty and Sri. S. Venkatesh Babu s names were suggested. Sri. S. Venkatesh Babu humbly requested that the post should be entrusted to someone senior to him or that he will take it up on the consent of his seniors. But the AGM unanimously approved that Sri. S. Naresh, Mr. Kiran Kumar K R and Mr. Venkatesh, in his absentia were all recognized too and were given an extra bonus for their hard work. At this juncture, a suggestion was made by Sri. Manjunath V.M from M/s. Ekadantha Jewellers, as to why shouldn t an advisory committee be made and consented whenever the need appears. The Hon. Secretary resented and said that the need hadn t aroused as yet for one, and also that the present board already consists of 12 elected directors, 3 co-opted directors and 1 mentor who do the needful when required. Mr. Manjunath V.M reiterated his stand for which the President welcomed the suggestion and accepted that it will be looked into and considered. Sri. B.R. Ajit Kumar suggested that the committee could be set up and experimented for a year but Sri. P.V. Mahesh negated the idea that it was not necessary as yet. The election procedure for The Election of Management Committee was up next. The rules were read out thus: The EVMs were used, same as what was used to elect Mr. NarendraModi. Ram Murthy from the election Commission, under whose able vigilance, the election process was conducted. It was endorsed that the machines used were authentic and the same ones that were used by the Election Commission of India. And that they were the manufacturers of ECI, the EV machines at Hyderabad. Sri. Ram Murthy read out the results on each machine with their readings; displaying the machine to the audience. All the staff and officials involved in the Election commission were thanked and honored by the President and Hon. Secretary of JAB, for their support and transparent proceedings. Mr. B.R.
