Measures 3" diameter W H Horstmann Civil War Officer's Sword & Scabbard A Civil War era officer's sword and scabbard. The blade is marked W. H. Horstmann & Son, Philadelphia and has strong overall etching / engraving depicting patriotic symbols among a scrolling leaf and foliage motif. On one side there is an American Eagle and Pluribus Unum. The opposing side is similarly decorated, and is etched U.S. Leather and wire wrapped grip. The top of the blade is etched IRON PROOF. The hilt is tight and has an open-work floral motif. The blade measures 31.25" long, 1-1/8" wide. Overall, 36-5/8" x 5.25" wide (at the hilt). The image of Lincoln is known as the "Berger Pose" taken by Anthony Berger, February 9th 1864 at Mathew Brady's studio, Washington D.C. "Gem" size measuring 1 inch x 13/16th of an inch. This tintype appears to be the reverse view of the Lincoln portrait on the current United States five-dollar bill. Framed in a gilt metal surround, 1.25" x 1".
