The Board voted to extend our hours and to be open an extra day! Beginning Nov. 1 our Fine Art Center & Gallery will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 4pm. Spread the word. This month provides opportunities to voice your thoughts about NAL what we do well, what could be improved or added, what our future should be and more. Input gathered from surveys and focus groups will be used to update our strategic plan. Short-term and long-term goals and action plans will then be established. Your participation is very important. Please plan to attend one of the focus groups: either Thursday, Oct 19 at 6:30 pm or Saturday, Oct 21 at 1pm. The session will last an hour and a half and refreshments will be served. Come share your thoughts and listen to those of others through this guided discussion. While you have your calendar out, make note that it was decided to hold our October Fourth Friday on the Third Friday instead. That provides an opportunity to present the awards for Steampunk Revolution, a unique show currently in our Gallery. There will be no Fourth Friday in Nov. or Dec due to the holiday show, so be sure to come B O A R D N O T E S Oct. 7 New Member Welcome. There ll be refreshments and a door prize. Each year, we open our Gallery to a limited number of guest shows. District 203 art educators just had a wonderful show and Fiber Art Divas will soon have their annual show at our facility. Guest shows bring in many new people, some of whom become members. Everyone who visits becomes a little more familiar with NAL and what we offer. Class lists and postcards by the front door are taken by visitors, conversation flows at the receptions, and new friends are made. Guest shows and receptions are typically open to the public. It s always nice to have a good NAL representation there. Our annual Gallery of Gifts holiday show and sale will open Nov. 17. Members are welcome to bring original, giftable fine art and fine craft items to sell. See the article on Member Benefits and the insert, and watch your for more information. There s always something happening at NAL. The best news is that people are the priority. It s a place where friendships are formed and the love of art is shared. Cynthia Boudreau s one woman show at DuPage Art League runs through October. Laura Lein-Svencer s art has been reproduced on fabric used in clothing sold in a limited number of boutique shops. NAL donated some old RFAF street banners to Little City Foundation for developmentally disabled where the residents will turn them into art for the exterior of their building. Our Off-Site Exhibits program needs a few more member artists. Contact the art league or Ariana Poe, coordinator. The most beautiful and colorful season is here and we are offering a colorful palette of classes, opportunities to show your art outside NAL and more. The new show, Steampunk Revolution is a tribute to the rebel in our hearts, a machine lover in our soul, and an artist that likes a challenge, who loves to create a new and spectacular thing from discoveries. This show looks spectacular. Awards will be announced on the Third Friday (not Fourth), Oct. 20 from 7to 9 pm. After this show, the Fiber Art Divas have prepared a beautiful exhibit that will satisfy muse and mind. This show will be on display Oct 25 to Nov. 11. A reception will be on Sunday, Oct 29 from 2 to 4p.m All are welcome. We hope you are preparing beautiful art and gift items for the Gallery of Gifts holiday show. 5 2017 Gallery of Gifts Holiday Sale Guidelines Members You are invited to bring work to sell at the annual Gallery of Gifts holiday show and sale. Items to sell: Unique, original fine art and fine crafts. That might include ornaments, greeting cards, home décor, pottery, mosaics, seasonal décor, sculpture, toys, wearable art, jewelry, framed art, hostess gifts, and more. Key dates: * Drop off: Sunday, Nov. 12, noon to 4pm and Monday, Nov am to 3 pm. * Opening reception: Friday, Nov. 17, from 7 to 9 pm * Show dates: Nov. 17 through Dec. 22 * Pickup art and take down show: Dec. 27 through 29 during regular Gallery hours. Guidelines: Eligible items: All items must be original designs. No kits accepted. No food items. Framed art: 1 large or 2 medium or 4 small pieces. Must be framed or gallery wrapped with wire hanger. Reproductions or Giclee prints: Up to 6 pieces, unframed, encased in a sleeve. No duplicates. Must be identified as prints. All items must be properly tagged and ready to sell. Sales Inventory: As work is sold, you may replace it with new items. Inventory list must be completed (form will be available on the website by Nov. 1). Pricing: Reasonably priced work is more likely to sell. Most visitors are shopping for gifts. Commission: This is a special event that entails additional advertising so, according to our by-laws, artist receives 75%. NAL 25%. Do not bring Please do not bring display supports such are hanging racks, baskets, etc. Also we are not able to store your carrying boxes, etc. or extra inventory. Participation: Volunteers help make the event a success. All participating artists are expected to volunteer. Non-exhibiting member volunteers are welcome. Sign-up opportunities will be on-line by November 1.
