2 Choose The Right Stuff Choosing what PPE products to use can be a daunting task. Our head of PPE research and development is Mr. Peter Clark, a renowned name within the Flame Resistant and Arc Flash Resistant clothing industry. Peter's passion for PPE was sparked from personal experience; in 1979 Peter was severely burned in a propane pipeline explosion. He has since played a pivotal role in changing how work wear standards and regulations are addressed within Canada and abroad. Peter's role with Apparel Solutions is to bring this expertise to our clients. He ensures that ASI continuously meets or exceeds the criteria that govern PPE garments. He also educates our clients with down to earth explanations of current issues in PPE and safety clothing. COMMUNITY AWARENESS: In 1985 Peter did a fire-walk in a simulated flash fire for media. This illustrated the difference proper PPE could make, and an article was published in Alberta OHS magazine. As co-founder of the Alberta Burn Rehabilitation Society, his volunteer activities with burn prevention have led him to host two World Burn Congresses. He also helped Dowzer Communications Group develop their innovative burn & fire prevention program for kids. This commitment to education, awareness and rehabilitation was recognized by the Alberta Medical Association in 1994, when he was awarded a Medal of Honor for his work. COUNCILS AND COMMITTEES: As a trusted advisor in the industry Peter is active with many national and international committees, working towards congruent and comprehensive practices. Peter sits on the committee for CAN/CGSB Work Wear for Protection Against Hydrocarbon Flash Fire with the CGSB (Canadian General Standards Board), and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) Technical Committee for Flash Fire Protective Garments (for NFPA and ). He advises on numerous standards and industry practice recommendations, and published the FRW Handbook. This book is continually referenced for policy and practice recommendations. He is on the Industry Advisory Committee with the U of A Research Project: Clothing Systems for Protection Against Steam and Hot Condensate, a newly recognized challenge in the PPE world. PETER CLARK AND YOUR SAFETY MANDATE Peter regularly conducts workshops and education programs for all levels of staff, cutting through the jargon and getting to the crucial message of PPE: wearing the right stuff the right way saves lives. He is a wealth of information for all levels of a company, from high level H&S committees working through regulations and policy development, to working with small groups of employees who need ground level training of why PPE worn right matters to them. Our VP of Research and Development, Peter Clark, ensures that the fabrics, components and design specifications of our garments all meet the required PPE standards. Our PPE is designed to protect your workers in the event of a flash fire or electric arc while also meeting high visibility requirements. PPE standards and their corresponding performance tests can be complex. This is compounded when PPE must meet multiple standards (flash fire, electric arc and regional high visibility standards). Custom Programs Our in-house design team can even work with you to create a completely unique garment program that is manufactured and supplied complete with all your specific safety and style requirements including fabric choice & color, reflective trim positions, branding, and modifications. Once we have helped you decide on what your specific needs are, we can ensure that you receive a consistent and accurate order process with a custom order form that lists all required modifications and branding.
