6 COMPONENTS ON THE WINDOW Deceuninck window systems are consisted of PVC profiles and the following components. Glazing TPE Gasket PVC Profile Accessories Support Metal Steel Protective Folio Water Discharge Lid 6

7 Reinforced Galvanized Steel Galvanized support metal steel are used in order to increase the resistance in the PVC profiles. The form of the support metal steel may differ in accordance with the inner room design of the PVC profile. Accessories On-window applicable accessories provide the leaf to be on-off as required (single-opening, double opening etc.) TPE Gasket TPE grey gaskets, being used for the first time by Deceuninck, are on the PVC profiles in order to provide impermeability of the window. The welding ability of the TPE gasket in the system increases the insulation of the windows. TPE is a recyclable material, and can be re-processed. OTHER ON-WINDOW MATTERS TO BE CONSIDERED Protective Folio Protects the joinery surface from the external influences (scratches, raw material adhesion etc.) throughout the assembly stage. The protective folio should be removed immediately after the assembly. Air Nozzles Through the agency of air pressure, it provides a faster water discharge through water discharge channels drop-down to the case on the joinery. Water discharge lid Facilitates the discharge of water by decreasing the wind pressure directly coming from outside. The water discharge holes should not be left under the grout or marble when assembled. The water discharge holes should be checked if they are clogged during usage. If they are clogged, the water penetrated in the joinery may run into dwelling. Water discharge holes These are the channels providing the discharge of water that may penetrate into the case or the leaf on the window. Water discharge channels are in the form of slot and have minimum 27 mm channel width. 7

10 Sliding SYSTEM PROPERTIES o There are 2 different sliding sash profile alternatives according to the dimension of the door or window used in the Sliding system. o It is aimed to provide a wider view by the sliding window sash profile whilst to increase the endurance by the sliding door sash profile. o The welding ability of the TPE gasket in the system increases the insulation of the windows. o The glass thickness between 4mm -- 29mm can be applied within the system. o Laminated cladding applications and different color ranges are available. o Galvanized support metal steel in the PVC profiles gives mechanic endurance to the window. 11 SYSTEM PROPERTIES Storbox 2000 Roller Shutter system provides heat and sound isolation. Application of the roller shutter boxes with different dimensions is available in the system. There are standard (isolation free) boxes of 165 x165 and 200x200 mm, and heat insulated boxes of 165 x 200 and 200 x 235 mm. There are 2 different PVC lamella alternatives of 37 and 55 mm in the roller shutter box. Manual control or motor drive roller shutters can be applied in the system. Laminated coat with different color ranges is applied on the roller shutter box. Roller shutter Isolated Box 11

12 Shutter SYSTEM PROPERTIES The system case is an architrave case. Architrave-case provides to cover the visual defects that may occur over the façade. Shutter systems are applied in two forms; Assembling to the Case Shutter sashes are assembled to the system through special case profiles. Assembling to the Wall The Shutter sashes are fixed directly on the wall with a special hinge. Lamella and panel applications are also available for this shutter system. Lamellas are determined by specific intervals, thus air and very little light access to the room is provided. For the shutter panel application, the shutter leaf is completely off. Laminated covering with different color ranges are available in the shutter system. Sash within the sash application is also available in the shutter system. For the closed shutter sashes, the aeration is provided by opening out the inner second sash. 12

Closing the window sash After closing the sash, it is locked by moving the handle from position 2 to position 1. Do not move the handle upwards at position 2 when it is a single-opening window Side opening Closed 14

16 Tilt & Turn Window Double Opening Double opening transom window aeration system is the absolute solution for all the windows in the house when direct access of the wind is undesirable. Side Opening The sash is opened by moving the handle from position1 to position 2. To lock the sash, reset the handle to position 1. 17 Double Sash Window (False Mullion) In this application there is no profile (Mullion) fix in the middle of the window when both sashes are opened. There are two different accessory options available for this opening. 1 Slide Application Opening the sash It is opened by moving the handle of (B) sash from position 1 to position 2. To open (A) sash, bring the leaf forward by removing the bottom slide upwards and the top slide downwards. Sliding Closing the Sashes First of all (A) slides of the sash are locked first using the slide to secure its location. Other sash (B) is closed. The Sash is then locked by moving the handle from position 2 to position 1. B Sash Side Opening Closed 17

18 Double Sash Window (False Mullion) 2. Lever Handle Application The other application for double sash windows is realized by choosing the lever handle. B-sash is practicable as double opening in this application. Opening the sashes Proceed by moving the (B) handle of the handled sash from position 1 to position 2. 19 Out-Swing Window The sashs of out-swing windows may open vertically as well as horizontally, according to the chosen accessory. Maximum window width for the horizontal opening is mm, while mm for the vertical openings. Closing the Window Sash The sash is closed inward. To lock the sash, the handle is moved from position 2 to position 1. 19

Closing o The door handle is moved from position 1 to position 3. o The door is locked by turning the key to the reverse direction, when the handle is at position 3. othe security may be increased by using the safety lock equivalents for the door applications. 20

Closing the Sash o The sash is closed forwards. o It is locked by removing the handle from position 2 to position 1. Transom Ratchet Application Opening the Sash o To open the sash, the locking ratchet is pulled down. o The sash is opened by pulling down. Closing the Sash o The sash is closed forwards. o The sash is locked by inserting the locking ratchet into its slot. 21

22 Sliding Parallel Sliding Sliding Inset Handle Application The handle is lifted up and turned to open the sash. The handle is turned on the reverse direction and pressed down to close. Opening the sash o The window handle on the sash or the sliding inset handle is moved from position 1to position 2. o After moving the handle to position 2, it is opened by sliding the sash on the rail. Closing the Sash (Handle Side) o The sash is perfectly set on the case on the reverse direction. o It is locked by moving the handle from position 2 to position 1. Sliding Inset Handle 22

23 Opening the Sash o For the 4-chamber sliding applications, the sash is opened by removing the handle on the A sash from position 1 to position 2. The sashes are slid to the left and right. o For the locked espagnolette applications, it is unlocked with the key, first. Closing the Sash o For the 4-chamber sliding applications, both Sashes opened to the right and left are united in the middle. It is locked by removing the handle from position 2 to position 1. o If locked espagnolette is used, it is locked with the key. 23

24 Tilt & Slide Tilt & Parallel Slide Parallel sliding accessories and handle are used in Deceuninck upvc tilt & slide systems. These kinds of handles are longer then window handles, thus providing the mechanism run easier. The accessory provides the door to openat aeration position or to run as sliding through the case. 4-side locking around the sash is provided when closed. The handle cannot be moved to the other positions thanks to the security mechanism. When using the accessory, the sash should not be slid fast and there should not be foreign bodies over the rails. FULL AUTOMATIC AND SEMI-AUTOMATIC TILT & SLIDE Opening the Sash o The sash is positioned as a transom by moving the handle from position 1 to position 2. Sash in this position provides the aeration. o The sash is pulled forward by moving the handle from position 2 to position 3, and opened by sliding on the rail. Closing the Sash o The sash is pulled to the reverse direction and set on the locking bearing. The sash is brought to the tilt position. o It is locked by removing the sash from position 3 to position 1. 24

25 Tilt & Slide Opening the Sash o The sash is removed from position 1 to position 2. o The sash is pulled forward and brought to the tilt position. o The sash is opened by laterally sliding when at position 2. Closing the Sash o The sash is pulled to the reverse direction and brought to transom position in the case. o The sash is pushed down and locked by removing the handle from position 2 to position 1. 25

26 Pivot Windows Pivot Windows o There are 4 main positions for the pivot window systems; closed (1), safe aeration (2), full opening (3), windowpane cleaning (4). o The window sash opening degree is only 15 at safe aeration position. o When in windowpane cleaning position, the sash is turned up to 180 degree so that the outer surface can be cleaned. 27 Folding Door Folding Door Deceuninck upvc folding door system provides the wide and high gates like garden, pool or terrace exits, be full opened. The sashes move in combination of folding and sliding functions at single or both sides and the joinery is brought to an open position with no part left fixed. Only the folded sashes are left on the sides when it is full opened. Folding Door 321 Opening (3 chambers) Opening the Sashes o The handle on B sash is moved from position 1 to position 2. o It is opened by pulling B sash forward. o The window handle on A sash is removed from position 1 to position 2, and the leaf is opened. Closing the Sashes o The folded sashes are closed by sliding. o The handle on A sash is removed from position 2 to position 1. o B sash is closed and to lock, the handle on sash is removed from position 2 to position 1. 27

30 ENERGY SAVING AND HEAT INSULATION upvc WINDOWS, PROVIDE BEST SOLUTION FOR HEAT INSULATION The population growth and consumption increase the energy needs all around the world. The energy resources tremendously decrease due to significant energy consumption, which increase the energy cost. 32 % of the energy consumed in our country is used for the buildings. The outstanding quantity of this consumption in the residences is used for heating and cooling. This shows the importance of heat insulation in energy saving endeavors. 28 % of the heat loss at the buildings is caused by the windows having insufficient heat isolation. Therefore windows do not aesthetically complete the buildings but figures large in heat and sound insulation. The thermal insulation of a window is described as the window U value (heat conductivity coefficient). U value shows how the structure material conducts the heat. Decrease of the Heat conductivity coefficient (U value) means that the material poorly conducts the heat; consequently it is better insulating material. 31 o The heat conductivity coefficients of our all systems are tested and certified by IFT-Rosenheim. o For example, the U Value calculated for Zendow system is 1.4 W/m2K. The lower U value calculcated means that the window provides a greater insulation against heat or cold. o Another important factor for the insulati on of the window is the property and thickness of the chosen windowpane. o When double glazing application is preferred, the saving is more then 50 %, compared to single windowpane. o The heat insulation may increase at double windowpane application, as follows: -By increasing the interval gap of the insulating windowpane to 16 mm. -By filling the interval gap with argon, instead of air. Chart 1 shows the heat conductivity coefficients according to single windowpane and different double windowpanes. 32 WATER CONDENSATION PVC window profiles and TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomeric) gaskets fixed on them provide excellent heat and sound insulation. PVC joineries prevent the outflow of surplus moisture in the room with the excellent impermeability property. Therefore the moisture sources in the room should be established and reduced and should also be periodically evacuated, i.e., the dwelling is to be aerated. What is Condensation? There is always some vapor in the air. The vapor holding capacity of the air differs according to the temperature. CONDENSATION happens when the water amount in the air increases and the temperature decreases to some specified levels. 1. THE WATER HOLDING CAPACITY DECREASES AS THE TEMPERATURE GOES DOWN The vapor weights held by the air at a specified degree is shown at Chart 2. o E.g. 1 m3 air, o Holds 28 gr. of water at 30 C, o 15 gr. at 20 C o and 4 gr. when it is 0 C. When the moisturized air cools, it can not hold the water and removes surplus moisture by CONDENSATION. 32

33 2. WHEN THE MOISTURE RATE IN THE AIR INCREASES, CONDENSATION HAPPENS AFTER A SPECIFIED TEMPERATURE. Due to daily activities done in the house, the vapor rate consistently increases. Vapor quantity produced in one hour is specified as follows; Resting human being (by respiration) Laundry Drying the clothes House cleaning with water Cooking Taking shower 30 gr./hour 300 gr./hour 500 gr./hour 1000 gr./hour 1000 gr./hour 2600 gr./hour The ideal in-house moisture rate should be 45 %. Rates between 35 % and 55 % are considered as normal in respect of thermal comfort. Disadvantages of Condensation The condensation on the glass restrains the visibility. The negative effects on the dwellers; may cause allergic reactions, headaches, insomnia, and dizziness. o The spots and typical odor of the mildew formed by the condensation is not pleasant. 34 WATER CONDENSATION o It also troubles aesthetically. o Condensation and mildew develop ment may seriously damage the building (corrosion etc.). o Metal items and electrical and electro nic equipments may oxidize. o Dry food may spoil due to absorbed water. o It may also trouble the museums and libraries by damaging the work of art and culture. MATTERS TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION CONCERNING IN-HOUSE CONDENSATION CLAIMS The clothes should not be dried inside, but on the balcony or out-door areas. True True False 34

35 o The in-house area producing maximum vapor is kitchen. Aspirator should be operated when cooking. (e.g., plastic dye applied to the ceiling prevents the aeration of the room). o Plastic based flooring and in-door ceramic coats negatively affect the aeration. o Air conditioner or central heating should be preferred instead of gas heaters. o The water shouldn t be warmed over the stove or heater. o After house cleaning done with wet fabrics, the medium should be aerated until it dries. o The house should be aerated more if there is an aquarium or flowers. 36 AERATION Aeration means refreshing of the air in the room. Aeration does not only provide the evacuation of moisturized air, but also restores the fresh air. Efficient Aeration Short and efficient aeration should be made in order to minimize the energy loss. Aeration Methods (Tilt & Turn) 1. Aeration by tilt & turn o It takes 1 hour to refresh the room. Fresh Air Moisturized air 2. Aeration by opposite windows o It takes 5-10 minutes to refresh the room. o This is the most efficient aeration method. o The aeration of the room is done in a short time, therefore, in winter time, it is completed before the walls, furniture, ceiling and floor get cold (with no excessive heat loss). 37 3. Aeration Profile Efficient in-door aeration can be provided by using aeration profile. The aeration system is opened and closed by the handle. Handle Inside Aeration Profile Outside 37

38 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Due to indoor-outdoor weather conditions especially in winter, the external surface of the windows may get spoiled. In the case of insufficient indoor aeration, surplus moisture and temperature coming out of daily activities (cigarette smoke, cooking, ironing, taking shower, cultivating plants, aquarium etc.) may form some dirt. This is not effective only for profiles but also for all other items in the room (for example spoils on the ceiling or wall). The outdoor air pollution should also be taken into account. Particularly wastewater treatment, leather factories, and coal fuels around the house spoil all kind of windows. The spoils over the profile that may occur, differ from area to area and is dissimilar even in two different rooms of the same dwelling, or may not happen at all. PVC Profiles o The protective folios should be immediately removed after assembling. o The protective folios on the profile should be immediately removed after the assembly of the PVC windows. If the construction is not finished yet (painting, plastering etc.), the protective folio should be removed after these processes thus the profile surface is protected from any scratches or damages. o The protective folios over exposed to the sun shine may stick on the PVC profiles. Therefore the folios on the outer surface should be removed immediately. Initial Cleaning of the Window or Door o Initial cleaning should be operated more carefully in order to prevent any damages on the profile surface caused by the sand and such solid particles accumulated on the profile due to spoils formed during the transportation and assembly. o The profile should be instantly cleaned before the paint and plaster wise materials on the surface get dry. This process should be done without scraping the surface. Especially any construction materials bouncing on the glass surface like lime or cement, should be immediately cleaned as it may react on the surface. o The profiles should be cleaned by a clean white fabric and solid particle-free diluted liquid detergent. o Surface corrosive any chemicals (acetone, methylene chloride, thinner, etc. ) precisely should not be used for cleaning. o Any materials that may scratch the profile surface such as wire brush, sand paper should be avoided for the cleaning process. o The cleaning should be done by moisturized fabric not a dry one. o To evacuate the water, there are water discharge holes on the windows. Make sure that these holes are not clogged after assembly of the window, the channels should be cleaned by vacuum if necessary. o PVC profiles should be outwardly painted. If colored profile is preferred, differently from the white profiles; any color alternative should be chosen by consulting to Deceuninck dealer. 38

39 o Outwardly painted profiles are not covered by company s guarantee. o The cleaning of the laminated cladding (colored/ wood patterned) windows should be done with a moisturized fabric. Accessory o Accessories are the fixtures on the window providing the leaves to be opened and closed. o In order to provide the accessories to operate better and easier, the moving parts are advised to be lubricated at least once a year. o Pressurized water should be used during the cleaning of the wet areas like bathroom, toilet etc. Water may affect the door handle and the lock mechanism. o Accessory settings are important for the durability of the accessories on the PVC window and door. o For the correct setting of the accessories, you can receive support from the authorized dealer. TPE Gasket o There are recyclable TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) gaskets on the profiles providing the impermeability. o The soft part on the top of the gasket is seen as the window is opened and closed. o This part of the gaskets are specially designed to meet the required standards and obtain an excellent air and water isolation. o TPE gasket does not leave any track on the window even after long term usage. o The cleaning of the TPE gaskets should be done by soapy water. Windowpane o This is the most important criteria in respect of window insulation, as it has the largest the surface on the window. Cleaning o The windowpane should be cleaned with a clean fabric. o Any tools like knife or etc. should not be used to clean the spoils around the glass. o If special windowpane (coated etc.) is applied, the cleaning direction which is valid for that type of windowpane should be followed. o If the glass on the window is broken, contact to the authorized dealer. o If single windowpane is applied on your window, do not forget that, in order to provide a better insulation when needed, double windowpane may be applied by just changing the glass welt. (This application is possible after the appropriation of the system is controlled by the authorized dealer.) 39
