Introduction The is designed to ensure that employees receive adequate information relevant to the possible hazards which may be involved with the various hazardous substances used in our operations and processes. The following program will outline how we will accomplish this objective. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has developed a Hazard Communication Standard to make sure that needed information reaches employers and employees regarding chemical safety. A copy of the appropriate standard can be found at the websites below or from your Studio Safety Administrator. California Title 8 California Code of Regulations, Section Federal (other states) - 29 Code of Federal Regulations, Section The Standard focuses on five main areas: Identifying Hazardous Chemicals Product Warning Labels The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) / Safety Data Sheet (SDS) The written Hazard Communication Employee Training As used in this, hazardous substance is as defined in the Hazard Communication Standard. II. Persons Responsible is responsible for implementing and maintaining this in conjunction with various Department Heads on the Production. All members of management and supervision are responsible for compliance with this as applicable to their work areas and to employees under their supervision who may be exposed to a hazardous substance. III. Employee Rights Employees have the right to personally receive information regarding hazardous substances to which they may be exposed.

2 Additional s Page: 2 of 12 Employees have the right for their physician or collective bargaining agent to receive information regarding hazardous substances to which the employee may be exposed. No employee will be discharged or otherwise discriminated against due to the employee s exercise of the employee s rights under the Hazardous Substances Information and Training Act. IV. Training Employees will be provided with information and training on hazardous substances in their work area at the time of their initial assignment. Information and training will also be provided whenever a new hazard is introduced into their work area. Training for new hires will be part of the orientation process. A sign-in sheet will be provided at the training session, and employees will be required to sign the attendance sheet. Sign -in sheets will include the facility name, manager/supervisor signature, employee signatures and corresponding social security number, and trainer s name. The Production Safety Awareness Meeting Attendance Form (Form 07A) should be used for this purpose. Training will cover the following areas: The requirements of the Standard and employees rights to information on hazardous substances to which they may be exposed; The location and availability of this, the Hazard Communication Standard, the list of Hazardous Substances, and MSDS/SDS; Operations in their work area where hazardous substances are present; Methods and observations that may be used to detect the presence or release of a hazardous substance in the work area; Potential physical and health hazards presented by hazardous substances in the work area as well as the measures that employees can take to protect themselves, specific work practices to be followed with respect to hazardous substances to which an employee may be exposed, including how to handle them safely and including personal protective equipment to be used; What to do in case of an emergency, release or over-exposure to hazardous substances; The details of the, including an explanation of the labeling system for hazardous substances and Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data Sheets, including how employees can obtain and use hazard information. CALIFORNIA ONLY: The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of California Health and Safety Code requires employees to receive information regarding the chemicals used in their workplace that have been identified by the State of California to contain carcinogens or reproductive

3 Additional s Page: 3 of 12 toxins. The employer will rely on the manufacturer to provide this information on the product MSDS/SDS. In addition, postings in the workplace will be used to further advise employees. When an employee is assigned to a new work area where the employee may be exposed to new hazardous substance(s), the employee will receive information with respect to the new hazardous substance(s). This training will be documented. V. List of Hazardous Substances A list of hazardous substances known to be present at the worksite is found in the MSDS/SDS Book. Form 10 - Material Safety Data Sheet Inventory may be used for this purpose. The list and a copy of the is kept at the following location: VI. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) NOTE: As part of the OSHA Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), Material Safety Data Sheets are transitioning to a new format known as Safety Data Sheets. Both elements are described. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are specific documents prepared by hazardous substance manufacturers. The MSDS/SDS contains written information concerning the hazards posed by a particular product containing hazardous substances and provides guidance on its proper handling and use. The employer will reply upon the information contained in MSDS/SDS and does not perform independent hazard determinations. MSDS/SDS are available for employee review in the Construction Department and Production office. MSDS/SDS books should be organized as follows: An index is to be prepared and placed at the front of the MSDS/SDS book and updated as MSDS/SDS s are added or archived. The index is to list products alphabetically and include the manufacturer of the product. A copy of reading Safety Data Sheets and Reading Material Safety Data Sheets should be placed in the MSDS/SDS book following the MSDS/SDS. MSDS/SDS General Information: There is no stated size or quantity of a product that is needed before an MSDS/SDS is required. MSDS/SDS should be in English.

4 Additional s Page: 4 of 12 MSDS/SDS must be maintained for a minimum of 30 years beyond the discontinuation of product use. The retention schedule follows the Company Documentation Retention Standard. If any MSDS/SDS is missing information or obviously incomplete, a new MSDS/SDS should be requested from the manufacturer or distributor. You may contact the Safety Department for assistance. Each department should make a notation on their Purchase Orders that a MSDS/SDS is required when they are ordering new materials. When reordering materials, check to be sure that an MSDS/SDS is on file and if not, request a new MSDS/SDS. Products Requiring an MSDS/SDS: All hazardous materials used in the workplace must have an MSDS or new SDS. Examples of products requiring an MSDS/SDS include, but are not limited to: Paints, coatings, thinners, inks, solvents Cleaning products Petroleum-based fluids including diesel, gasoline, engine additives, oils Adhesives, mastics Horticulture products such as pesticides, fertilizers Special effects fogs Pyrotechnic compounds Art materials, photo processing materials Sheet metal, foams, plastic or composite stock that will be cut, welded, machined, sanded or heated Batteries containing lead acid or solutions Welding rods Compressed gasses Products that may contain asbestos such as brake shoes, gaskets and roofing material Water treatment chemicals Solid products such as diatomaceous earth, silica, cement mixes, carbon black Refrigerants Laboratory chemicals Consumer products containing hazardous substances that are used in performing one s job Products Not Requiring an MSDS/SDS The following are examples of products that do not require an MSDS/SDS: Food, drugs, cosmetics or alcohol beverages in a retail establishment that are packaged for sale to consumers or intended for personal consumption by employees while in the workplace.

5 Additional s Page: 5 of 12 Manufactured items that do not release or result in exposure to a hazardous chemical under normal conditions of use (e.g. finished furniture, tires, adhesive tape). Reading a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) The following sections and information are provided on an MSDS: Identity - This section will provide the name of the product as it is listed on the product label to allow you to easily match the appropriate MSDS to the product. Section I - Manufacturer Information. This section provides the name and address of the manufacturer as well as a telephone number to be used to obtain product information and a telephone number to be used for emergency information. A date of preparation appears on each sheet to allow the user to be sure they have the most current information. Section II - Hazardous Ingredients/Identity Information. This section contains: the chemical name of hazardous ingredients or if a mixture, the chemical names of the hazardous ingredients that make up at least 1% or the mixture. Section III - Physical/Chemical Characteristics. This section outlines the physical properties of the material. This information may be used to determine conditions that may enhance exposure potential. Section IV - Fire and Explosion Hazard Data. This section includes information concerning the flammability of the material and information for fighting fires involving the product. Section V - Reactivity Data. This section includes information regarding the stability of the material and special storage or use recommendations. Section VI - Health Hazard Data. This section indicates the medical signs and symptoms that may be encountered with overexposure to this product or its components. Health hazard information may also distinguish the effects of acute (short term) and chronic (long-term) exposure. Section VII - Precautions for Safe Handling and Use. This section provides general information for safe handling and use. Local regulations must also be taken into consideration in dealing with spills and waste disposal. Section VIII - Control Measures. This section includes general information about appropriate personal protective equipment for handling this material. Reading a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) MSDS s are being replaced with applicable new SDS s as the Company receives them from chemical manufacturers, distributors and/or importers. Safety Data Sheets contain a specific format and have 16 specific sections. Identification information on an SDS will match information on the product container label. A sample SDS can be found in Appendix B. Information found in the various sections of an SDS include:

6 Additional s Page: 6 of 12 Section 1 Identification: This section includes what the product is, who manufactured it, how to contact them, and how to or to not use it. Section 2 Hazard(s) identification: This section identifies the hazards posed by the chemical, along with the information that s required to be on the chemical s label, including the pictograms, signal word, hazard statements, and precautionary statements. See Appendix B for pictograms. Section 3 Composition/information on ingredients: This section identifies the ingredients contained in the product, which are known to be hazardous. Section 4 First-aid measures: This section describes the initial care that should be given by untrained responders to an individual who has been exposed to the chemical; including, first-aid instructions by relevant routes of exposure and a description of the most important symptoms or effects. Section 5 Fire-fighting measures: This section provides recommendations for fighting a fire caused by the chemical, including suitable extinguishing equipment, provisions for unique circumstances, firefighter protective equipment and other relevant information. Section 6 Accidental release measures: This section provides recommendations on the appropriate response to spills, leaks, or releases, including containment and clean-up practices to prevent or minimize exposure to people, properties, or the environment. Section 7 Handling and storage: This section provides guidance on the safe handling practices and conditions for safe storage of chemicals, including precautions for safe handling, minimizing the release of the chemical into the environment, and providing advice on general hygiene practices. Section 8 Exposure controls/personal protection: This section indicates the recognized exposure limits, engineering controls/work practices, and personal protective measures that can be used to minimize worker exposure. Section 9 Physical and chemical properties: This section describes the chemical s characteristics, such as its normal appearance, odor, solubility, boiling, melting and freezing points, just to list a few. Section 10 Stability and reactivity: This section describes the reactivity hazards of the chemical and the chemical stability information. It s broken into three parts: reactivity, chemical stability, and other. Reactive chemical information would indicate if the material could vigorously polymerize, decompose, condense, or will become self-reactive under certain conditions; chemical stability information will indicate whether the chemical is stable or unstable, including potential hazardous conditions; other information would include possible hazardous reactions, conditions to avoid, incompatible materials and any hazardous decomposition products. Section 11 Toxicological information: This section identifies toxicological and health effects information or indicates such data is not available; including, potential routes of exposure, known health effects and symptoms, the numerical measures of

7 Additional s Page: 7 of 12 toxicity, and if the chemical has been identified to have any cancer causing properties. Section 12: Provides ecological information (non-mandatory). Section 13: Outlines disposal considerations (non-mandatory). Section 14: Provides transport information (non-mandatory). Section 15: Provides regulatory information (non-mandatory). Section 16: Provides other information. VII. Labeling NOTE: As part of the OSHA Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), container labels are transitioning to a new format. Chemical manufacturers, importers and distributors who supply hazardous substances are required to label their product. General Label Information No container of hazardous substances will be released for use unless the container is correctly labeled and the label is legible. All chemicals in bags, drums, barrels, bottles, boxes, cans, cylinders, reaction vessels, storage tanks, or the like will be checked to ensure the manufacturer's label is intact, legible, and has not been damaged in any manner during shipment. The label must contain; (a) the chemical name of the contents, (b) the appropriate hazard warnings, and (c) the name and address of the manufacturer. All secondary containers will be labeled with the identity of the substance with the same name that appears on the manufacturer's label and the MSDS/SDS for that substance. This information should be legible and will be available to all employees in their work area throughout the work shift. The information should include details of all chemicals, which are in the referenced container. Employees with questions concerning the appropriate label to use when transferring a hazardous material from one container to another container should contact the work area supervisor immediately. All of the aforementioned items are the responsibility of the supervisor in each department. Before you move, handle or open a chemical container, READ THE LABEL and follow the instructions. If you're uncertain of the chemical, ask your supervisor, before you act. 1. Globally Harmonized System of Classification Label Requirements. Product Identifier This section identifies how the hazardous chemical is identified. Information in this section includes the chemical name, code number or

8 Additional s Page: 8 of 12 batch number. The same product identifier must be both on the label and in Section 1 of the SDS (Identification). Supplier Identification This section contains the name, address and phone number of the chemical manufacturer, distributor or importer. Signal Word The signal word is used to indicate the relative level of severity of hazard and alert the user to a potential hazard on the label. There are only two signal words, Danger and Warning. Danger is used for the more severe hazards and Warning is used for the less severe hazards. Hazard Pictograms Labels now contain specific pictograms in the shape of a square set at a point and include a black hazard symbol on a white background with a red frame sufficiently wide enough to be clearly visible. Hazard Statements Hazard Statements describe the nature of the hazard(s) of a chemical, including, where appropriate, the degree of hazard. For example: Causes damage to kidneys through prolonged or repeated exposure when absorbed through the skin. All of the applicable hazard statements must appear on the label. Precautionary Statements These statements include a phrase that describes recommended measures that should be taken to minimize or prevent adverse effects resulting from exposure to a hazardous chemical or improper storage or handling. VIII. Other Employees Employers sharing the same work area, e.g., subcontractors, will be informed of hazardous substances to which their employees may be exposed and of suggestions for the appropriate protective measures. This will be done by the On-Set and/or Construction Safety Coordinator (or their designee) communicating with the responsible representative of such an employer. IX. Recordkeeping Copies of training sign-in sheets will be kept on file in the Construction Coordinator/Department Head office(s) or the Studio Safety Administrator s office.
