3 SKILLS USA STATE CONTEST Atlanta Technical College WELCOME TO OBSERVERS While observing contest lease do not enter that area of contest. During the contest, please keep moving about, leaving or entering the room and whispering to others, to a minimum level. All of these activities may be distracting to contestants and could possibly create loss of points for them. Observers should not talk to, give any signals to, or communicate with contestants at ANY time during the contest. Judges may penalize and/or disqualify a contestant if they accept any assistance from others once the contest has begun, and up until the contest is declared closed. Please do not use any videotape cameras, flash photos, or cell phones in the contest area. After the contest is over, photos may be taken after Chairperson has given an okay to do so. This is an intense time for contestants. There will be no time for them to have conversations, or pose for pictures until the contest is over. Please remember, we do not want ANY contestant to lose points unnecessarily. They have worked very hard to be here. Let s give them every possible advantage to be the First Place Winner. We appreciate your involvement in the Skills USA State Contest and thank you for your cooperation STATE SKILLS USA BARBERING COMPETITION SCORING ASSESSMENT The following is a breakdown of the point system for each section of the competition: (1) Written Knowledge Test 150 points NOTE: Written test is completed before the conference (3) Oral Communication 50 points

4 (4) Skills Competition 800 points (200 points per skill) (5) Equipment, materials, safety & -5 points clothing requirements Total: 1000 points 2019 SKILLS USA CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST State Level Barbering Guidelines for Judges Scoring Process IMPORTANT!! Do not use the following numbers for scoring: 97, 93,89 First Pass: Review work. Show some interest in ALL of the work presented. Walk by slowly, one time, noting each mannequin carefully. Try to notice details. Second Pass: Walk by all of the mannequin s again. This time, pause more. Look (more carefully) at the work presented. If the work is one of the best ones presented, note your selections on the score sheet next to the correct Contestant number. The best three mannequins should be given grades of 100, 99, and 98 with number 100 being the very best of all the work presented. Try not to give these same mannequins too much additional attention so as not to indicate, to an observing audience, which ones are your favorite. Continue to look at the other mannequins carefully, as well. Jot down specific things you want to remember about them. Third Pass: Go by all mannequins again. This time you will be looking for the three that are most below average. Number those on your score sheets as 86, 87 and 88 with 86 being the least appealing to you. Now you will need to decide on the mannequins who are above average but NOT as good as the top three. Rate these as 96, 95, and 94. Next rate the rest of the mannequins. They will be rated 92, 91and 90. Look at the work one more time. Recheck your choices. Make certain that your top
