4 HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE A hair transplant is a simple outpatient procedure, that depending on the amount of grafts transplanted, will take between four and six hours. Under local anaesthesia a strip of donor tissue is taken from the back of the head, the follicular units are then prepared for transplant and the recipient sites for the donor hair will be prepared for transplant. The transplanted hair, taken from a donor strip of hair bearing skin from the back of the scalp, will grow just as your own hair from the harvested area does. The principle of donor dominance ensures the transplanted hair continues to grow for the rest of your life.this is because the transplanted hair is resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that causes hair loss.
