3 Anti-wrinkle injections Lose those unsightly crows feet and frown, bunny, marionette and smokers lines, or that gummy smile. Get a fresh, smooth, rejuvenated look. What are anti-wrinkle injections, and how do they work? Anti-wrinkle injections are natural, purified protein injections that relax the facial muscles that cause and deepen wrinkles. They can also be used to relax the muscles in the upper lip to rectify excessive gingival display, also known as gummy smile, creating a more even, attractive smile. Reduce existing lines and wrinkles* Prevent future ones from forming* Give your skin a chance to repair itself* Watch lines and wrinkles fade and even disappear* How long will the procedure take? Your initial consultation will take around minutes, but the procedure itself takes just 5 10 minutes, with follow-up appointments after two weeks. How long do the effects last? It varies from person to person. The treatment usually lasts for 3 4 months, at which point we recommend another procedure. Are there any side effects? Side effects are rare and generally minor. Any swelling usually disappears in a matter of minutes. Some people may experience temporary bruising or a mild headache, which can be treated with paracetamol. In very rare cases, if injections are made into the forehead, some drooping of the upper eyelid may occur, but, again, it s only temporary (usually resolves itself within a few weeks). How should you prepare for treatment? In the week before your treatment, avoid anti-inflammatory medications, fish oil, green tea, garlic, ginkgo and other herbal products that may thin the blood. This will minimise the chances of bruising. How much will your treatment cost? It depends everybody s treatment plan and dosing requirements are different. However, Dr Shah will talk you through his proposed course of treatment and the costs at your free initial consultation. When will you see a difference? Usually within 2 3 days, although you won t see the full effect until 7 14 days after the procedure. *PLEASE NOTE, THIS A TEMPORARY COSMETIC TREATMENT. TOP-UP TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED EVERY FOUR TO SIX MONTHS TO MAINTAIN THE EFFECT. Will you need time off work? Most people return to work and their daily activities straight away. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, heavy lifting and excessive contact with the injected area for 24 hours. Will you look like you re frozen? What are dermal fillers (also known as soft tissue fillers)? Dermal fillers are an increasingly popular non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment biocompatible gels that are injected into or under the skin to enhance your face and assist in the production of new collagen, thereby improving your skin s elasticity and preventing sagging. Rejuvenate your skin s natural texture and elasticity* Restore hydration, facial contours and volume loss* Counter the effects of gravity, sun exposure and aging* Reverse and prevent wrinkles, hollowing and sagging* Where can fillers be used?* Dermal fillers can be used to enhance or augment a person s lips, cheeks, nose (bridge), chin, jawline, temples, brows, tear troughs (hollowing around the eyes) and naso-labial folds. They are also highly effective in reducing or eliminating vertical lip lines (smokers lines), marionette lines/jowls and other fine facial lines and wrinkles. How long does the procedure and recovery take? A local anaesthetic cream or injection is usually applied, so the filler gel can be comfortably and painlessly injected a process that usually takes minutes. While some swelling or bruising may occur, it can usually be camouflaged with makeup. Most people return to work and normal activities later in the day, but we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and any alcohol consumption in the immediate 48 hours following treatment, both of which can increase the risk of bruising. When will I see the results? How many treatments are required? You ll see the effects straight away, and they ll mature and improve over the following fortnight. However, more than one session may be required to achieve the best results. After the initial foundation treatment, subsequent treatments are used to refine the effect and achieve the desired outcome, with periodical top ups required to maintain the full effect long term. How long do dermal fillers last? It depends upon the type of filler and where it s being used, but generally speaking they last 6 12 months (although fillers tend not to last as long if you smoke, have a high metabolism or are trying to lose weight, especially if you re on a carbohydrate-restricted diet or exercising intensively). How should you prepare for treatment? As bruising is the most common side effect, you should avoid anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, green tea, garlic, ginkgo and other herbal products that may thin the blood for a week prior to the procedure. Alcohol also increases the risk of bruising. How much do dermal filler treatments cost? Again, it depends on the type of filler, as well as the amount required to achieve the look you want to achieve.
