2 Inline finishing: Efficient and eye-catching The brand name TerraEffekt stands for eye-catching finishing out of the coating unit. TerraEffekt includes pigmented coatings such as pearlescent and metallic coatings, opaque white as well as Drip Off systems. A major part of these coatings is available both waterbased (physically drying by hot air and infrared) and UV based (curing through ultraviolet radiation). TerraEffekt effect coatings are ready-to-use. Pigments and coatings harmonize perfectly and are professionally dispersed. Effect coatings clearly outperform specialty printing inks with regard to brilliance, coverage and finishing results. Compared to traditional offline finishing, effects out of the coating unit persuade by many advantages: flexible use, economic inline process, no costs and time loss due to external finishing operations. 4 Drip Off coatings Drip Off represents an efficient and eye-catching method to achieve matt/gloss effects or matt/structure effects in a single process with just one coating unit. The principle: In the last ink duct a primer is partially used. Out of the coating unit, a high gloss coating is applied full area. Where primer and high gloss coating meet, a repellent effect is realised. Where the primer has been left out, you realise high gloss surfaces. In this way, you can produce fine printing motives without a spot coating plate. As the owner of the patented Aquaprint Drip Off system, ACTEGA Terra offers the original. Additionally, other waterbased and UV based Drip Off systems are available. The combination of oil based primer and waterbased high gloss coating achieves pleasant homogeneous matt areas as well as distinctive matt/gloss differences. All systems provide good drying characteristics as well as a good scratch and scuff resistance. For the application of UV Drip Off (also called hybrid coating), both UV based and oil based primers for the ink duct are available in combination with. Depending on the primer, application amount and the setting of your printing press (power of UV lamps), you can achieve medium to strong structures which provide a highly visual and haptical difference compared to the high gloss coating. The systems are characterised by a very good scratch and scuff resistance. 5 Metallic coatings TerraEffekt metallic coatings provide a flexible and economic way of applying metallic effects in an inline process. In contrast to metallic inks, they are characterised by a higher brilliance. Gold and silver coatings develop their effect by means of small metal plates which reflect the light. While silver coatings contain aluminum plates, gold coatings sparkle through a copper/zinc mixture. TerraEffekt gold and silver coatings persuade through their outstanding coverage, a striking brilliance and a very high edge definition. They provide good running characteristics on the press as well as a good scratch and scuff resistance. coatings for the application after printing, ACTEGA Terra also offers coatings for the coating unit before printing. These coatings are characterised by non-leafing pigments and show a very good overprintability with conventional colours. UV based silver coatings provide a very high brilliance as they contain extremely thin non-leafing aluminum plates produced by vacuum metallisation. UV silver coatings realise homogeneous metallic surfaces that represent an economical and ecological alternative to cold and hot foil stamping. 6 Pearlescent coatings TerraEffekt pearlescent coatings enrich printing products with an elegant and high value surface. Pealescent coatings can be applied in a flexible way: full area or partially for a defined finishing. Depending on the colour, the pigment size and type of pigment (e.g. colour changing), you can achieve various effects. For the realisation of the required pearlescent effect, the print design is of high importance. At ACTEGA Terra you get ready-to-use pearlescent coatings in which pigments are dispersed in an optimal way. These pearlescent coatings provide a good scratch and scuff resistance. Pearlescent coatings cannot only be applied out of the coating unit after printing, but also before printing for a more subtle shimmer. Special pearlescent coatings with a very good printability have been developed for this objective. TerraEffekt pearlescent coatings make use of the phenomenon of light refraction. Pearlescent pigments consist of a structure of transparent layers with different refractive indices. The different optical wavelengths are amplified or absorbed dependent on the thickness and type of the pigment plate. Therefore the coating shimmers in the defined colour only and not over the whole colour spectrum. Below you can find an overview of our standard waterbased pearlescent coatings. 7 Opaque white TerraEffekt opaque white for the application out of the coating unit provides optimum coverage for non-opaque surfaces. It is used in cases of metallised, foil laminated, transparent and coloured substrates as well as for kraft board. Also for maximum requirements with regard to the printing of colour charts, TerraEffekt opaque white guarantees true-colour printability. TerraEffekt opaque white is available both waterbased and UV based and can be processed out of the coating unit before and after printing. Applied out of the coating unit before printing a sufficiently good coverage is achieved with just one application. The opaque white is dried immediately by the dryer after the coating unit and can be printed inline immediately. Through the use of high quality titanium dioxides, opaque white is provided with a very high grade of whiteness and is characterized by a very good overprint capability with conventional and UV inks. Opaque white out of the coating unit outperforms opaque white out of the ink duct by higher opacity and higher coverage.
