2 Contest Schedule Wednesday, June 27, 2018 KEC South Wing A 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm Secondary and Postsecondary Barbering Orientation Contestants may NOT bring a cellphone to orientation or to the contest. Failure to comply may result in dismissal from the contest. Contestants do NOT need to bring their kit or required supplies to competition orientation; kit check will be on Thursday, prior to the start of the technical portion of the competition Contestants MUST attend; Advisors may attend but may not ask questions Submit resume & creative freestyle pompadour and beard design theme page hard copy to technical chair at orientation (standard 2.2) - failure to do so will result in a 10 point penalty Review of finalized schedule, all official contest rules, question and answer session Page 2

3 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Secondary - Written Exam - each contestant will be allowed 45 minutes to complete a 50 question written exam assessing knowledge of barbering and cosmetology. Post-Secondary - Oral Exam - demonstrate customer service skills by phone in a two to three minute simulated work scenario 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm Post -Secondary - Written Exam - each contestant will be allowed 45 minutes to complete a 50 question written exam assessing knowledge of barbering and cosmetology. Secondary - Oral Exam - demonstrate customer service skills by phone in a two to three minute simulated work scenario 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Industry Support Information Session - Advisors may attend, but are not required Judges and industry barbering team will provide a brief information session regarding future career opportunities for students Page 3

4 Thursday, June 28, 2018 KEC South Wing A 9:00 am - 10:00 am Station Assignment & Kit Check Contestants will be assigned to a workstation where they will be provided with instructions regarding the kit check. Contestants are not to talk during this time. No cells phones are allowed. Advisors may observe but are not allowed to communicate with contestants, technical committee or judges. 10:00 am - 11:00 am Men s Flat Top Haircut (45 minutes) Duplicate a pre determined haircut that has been selected by the national technical committee within a 45 minute time period. Contestant will duplicate the length and design line of the selected cut, followed by styling with products to duplicate the hair style as pictured. Flat top mannequins will be displayed on table after skill assessment is completed by judges. Page 4

5 11:30 pm - 12:30 pm Pompadour Haircut Design (45 minutes) Duplicate a pre determined haircut that has been selected by the national technical committee within a 45 minute time period. Contestant will duplicate the length and design line of the selected cut, followed by styling with products and thermal tools if needed, to duplicate the hair style as pictured. 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm Lunch will be provided for all contestants. Contestants may not leave the competition area during lunch. Advisors may not enter the competition area during lunch. Contestants may NOT use cell phones during lunch. 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Men s Creative Pompadour Design Contestants will trim the beard to desired length based on the creative beard design submitted during orientation followed by cutting the beard design and the pompadour design. After beard trim and design cut has been completed, contestant will then demonstrate hair coloring techniques with temporary colors on the pompadour and beard design. Page 5

6 3:30 pm Recognition of judges, sponsors and technical committee 4:00 pm Parade of barbering contestants and pompadour creative beard design. Props may be added after judges have completed the technical skill assessment. 4:30 pm Contest Debriefing Advisors, Contest chairs and co-chairs only - Contestants are not allowed All rules will be followed as listed in the SkillsUSA Technical Standards for Barbering Page 6
