2 Service portfolio Learners must: Produce a service portfolio that includes evidence of practical treatments carried out with proficiency. The service portfolio is an evidence requirement which must be completed prior to learners undertaking the practical assessment. VTCT specifies the services to be carried out and evidenced in the portfolio. The service portfolio can be used as a confirmatory and formative assessment to prepare learners for the practical assessments. The purpose of this portfolio is to evaluate learner performance and use the information gathered to shape and improve the learner s performance in preparation for summative assessments. Centres should consider the use of formative self and peer assessment as part of the learning journey. Whilst service portfolios are not graded, they may be sampled by the EQA. Service portfolio The service portfolio should contain evidence that learners have: Carried out a a minimum of 4 different colouring services on 4 different occasions Used a minimum of 4 colour correction products Semi-permanent Quasi-permanent Permanent Lightener Colour remover for artificial hair Carried out all types of colour correction Removing artificial colour Removing bands of colour Recolouring hair treated with lightener using pre-pigmentation and colour Recolouring hair that has had artificial colour removed Correcting highlights and lowlights Conducted the following consultation tests Skin test Colour test Incompatibility test Porosity test Elasticity test 2 Colour correction services

5 Summative practical assessment Learners must: LO4 - Be able to prepare the tools, equipment, products and techniques used for colour correction services LO5 - Be able to provide colour correction services Learners must carry out a complete colour correction service on one new client which will be observed and marked by centre assessors. Learners must achieve all assessment criteria in order to pass and achieve the unit. The practical assessment must take place in a real or realistic working environment on a real client. At a minimum the summative practical assessment for this unit must cover: Service Products Tools and equipment Finish A colour correction service which requires pre-pigmentation on the hair will be carried out on one new client. The service will be performed within a commercial time and appropriate products, tools and equipment will be used to perform a salon professional service Temporary Semi-permanent Quasi-permanent and permanent colour may be used for this service Combs Sectioning clips Foils Meche Bowls and brushes Hand-held hair drying equipment PPE for self and client The finish may either be a blow-dry or setting service to enhance the colour correction service Colour correction services 5

6 Practical assessment In order to pass this unit, learners must achieve all pass criteria.
