Source and purchase the materials required to create the designs. Apply make up to the actors for the technical and dress rehearsal, and then each production. Alternatively, teach the actors how to apply their own make-up, then over see the actors doing this prior to each production. To store and maintain all make-up materials and equipment to ensure they are kept in good condition and to meet hygiene standards.

9 Preparation, Application and Removal of Theatrical Make-up Stage makeup is an important part of theatrical acting for both men and women. Basic makeup techniques emphasise your features and give your face dimension under harsh stage lighting. When using these steps to apply your stage makeup, keep in mind the area in which you will be acting. Small theatres require more subtle makeup because your audience will be closer to you. Large spaces should be accommodated with heavier makeup application so that your facial contours are visible from farther away.

10 - Before you start layout all the make-up. - It is important that all your sponges, brushes and combs etc are kept clean. - Always wash your hands before you begin. Skincare Wash your face and apply a skin moisturiser before doing anything else. (This helps the makeup to last longer and it will help your skin from becoming dried out later). Actors with oily or combination skin should use a skin toner at this step. Apply moisturizer all over the face and neck, and a light balm on the lips. ). If you overdo it, simply blot the skin with tissue. It is recommended that men not shave within 60 minutes of applying stage makeup, as the face is especially sensitive directly after shaving, and makeup can cause irritation.

11 Step 1 Foundation A cream-based stage makeup foundation will provide the longest lasting results and should be applied with a fine makeup sponge. Cover your entire face evenly with a shade that is slightly darker than your natural tone, as colours appear lighter than they actually are under stage lights. Extend the makeup coverage to your ears and neck to appear even and natural. Additional Step - Highlights and Shadows One of the most prominent goals of applying stage makeup is to bring shape to your features, and this is accomplished using highlight and shadow colours on strategic areas of your face. Your shadow colour should be much darker than your foundation, and your highlight should be several

12 shades lighter. Both should also be cream based so that they will blend easily with your foundation. These accent colours are best applied with the tip of a sponge and blended outward so that one colour flows evenly into another with a natural look. Highlight is best applied on areas that you want to protrude visually. These are usually the cheekbones, the ridge of the nose and the eyebrow bone. Shadowing will cause the area to recede visually and should be applied to the hollows of the cheeks, the sides of the nose and the eyelid. You can control the intensity of the visual effect with the amount of colour you apply and how evenly it is blended.

13 Step 2 Concealer Using the small bristle brush, carefully apply concealer to your skin. This brush lets you control precisely where you place the product. Apply concealer only to those areas that really need it. Use the sponge to gently pat not rub the concealer into your skin. Patting the product into your skin helps it blend without rubbing off. Step 3 Powder/ Bronzer Set the concealer with translucent powder. A light dusting of colourless powder keeps your concealer from caking, creasing or wearing off.

14 Powder takes away the shine but leaves a healthy sheen -- just a bit on a large powder brush, swept around the entire face. Step 4 Blush Blush should be about a terra cotta colour for men or a pink or red for women. Have the actor smile, then colour the apples of his or her cheeks, then dust cheeks with powder to blend all the edges. Step 5 Eye Shadow You may want to use the "drop cloth" trick of depositing extra powder under the eyes to catch any eye makeup fallout.

15 Use a dark colour to softly line your eyes, and to enhance your crease. Blend the dark colour to slightly beyond the crease, where it fades away using with a minimal amount of product on a large shadow brush. If you wish, add a little bit of golden brown to the outer corner of your eye. Apply white shimmer eye shadow to your tear duct, as this will make your eyes look bigger. Step 6 Brows Cover the brow with a brow pencil, using little feather-like strokes. Now that the eyes are done, brush away excess loose powder (applied in step 5) from under the eyes.

16 Step 7 Eye Liner Line the top of your lid along the lash line and from the middle of the bottom lash line out to the corner. The line should be even but not too thick. Use brown eyeliner for men and brown or black for women. (Black eyeliner is used more often for more dramatic characters.) Use white eyeliner on your waterline to make your eyes appear bigger and brighter. Step 8 Mascara Chose the same colour as your eyeliner. Try not to make your lashes clump together.

17 Step 9 Lips Most men use a more natural shade of lipstick; women can use varying shades depending on character, time period, and mood. Step 10 Lip Liner Try to use a matching lip liner or the lipstick will bleed.

Removal Most stage makeup can be removed with soap and water. However, one of the quickest and most effective methods of stage makeup removal is the use of baby wipes.

Before you use the wipes, check the label to ensure they don't contain any chemicals to which you are allergic. It is always a good idea to moisturise after you have removed your make-up.
