2 Welcome to the 2018 Competition Awareness Seminar This presentation will help you identify the requirements for entering the NZARH Regional Hair Stylist of the Year. The rules listed for each section will be enforced on the day by the Steward. The photographs that are contained in this presentation have been selected by the NZARH Competitions Committee to give a general feeling of the lines that are current: but please remember fashion never sleeps! 3 Event Eligibility Next Generation Stylist A Stylist who has been employed within the hairdressing industry for less than four (4) years as at 31st October 2018, including time spent in any full time pre-trade hairdressing course, or a fully contracted Apprentice under an HITO agreement. Eligibility is to be verified by the Employer or Training Provider. Senior Stylist A Stylist who has been employed in the hairdressing industry for four (4) years or more, including time spent at any full time pre-trade training courses as at the 31st October Qualified Stylists with less than four years hairdressing experience will compete as a Next Generation Stylist

6 EVENT 1: Model: Time Allowed: Stylist: THE CUT PRESENTATION EVENT Female or Male Five Minutes Senior Next Generation o The cut must show technical excellence in the competitor s cutting ability o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look o Hairpieces / extensions may be used o Wigs are forbidden o The style is to be pre-done o Multiple entries are allowed

14 EVENT 2: THE HAIR BY NIGHT PRESENTATION EVENT Model: Female Only Time Allowed: Five Minutes Stylist: Senior Next Generation o o o o o o The style must show technical excellence in the competitor s styling ability The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look Hairpieces / extensions may be used The style is to be pre-done Wigs are forbidden Multiple entries are allowed

25 EVENT 3: THE CUT LIVE EVENT Model: Time Allowed: Stylist: Female or Male Forty Minutes Senior Next Generation o o o o o The cut must show technical excellence in the competitor s cutting ability All heads of hair must be reshaped and shortened by at least 3cm The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look Hairpieces / extensions may be used but must be cut and reshaped on the competition floor Wigs are forbidden

33 EVENT 4 The Day Style Live Event Glamourise a Female Haircut with Pure Technical Artistry

34 EVENT 4: THE DAY STYLE LIVE EVENT Model: Time Allowed: Stylist: Female Only Twenty Minutes Senior Next Generation o o o o o o o o The style must show technical ability and demonstrate styling skills in creating the finished look All styling aids must be removed prior to the start of the event All hair must be worked from roots to tips within the time allowed Dreadlocks, braids, plaits, twists, weaves and knots in the models own hair must be done within the time allowed The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look Hairpieces / extensions may be used but must be fully worked on the competition floor within the time allowed Wigs, Pins, Clips and Ties are forbidden This event is not a Hair Up event.

42 EVENT 5: Model: Time Allowed: Stylist: THE HAIR BY NIGHT LIVE EVENT Female Only Forty Minutes Senior Next Generation o The style must show technical excellence in the competitor s styling ability o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look o Hairpieces / extensions may be used but must be assembled and completed on the competition floor within the time allowed o Wigs are forbidden

49 EVENT 6: BARBERING EVENT LIVE EVENT Model: Time Allowed: Stylist: Male Only Thirty Minutes OPEN EVENT ANY NZARH MEMBER CAN ENTER THIS EVENT o o o o o The cut must show technical excellence in the competitor s barbering ability All heads of hair must be reshaped and shortened. The use of colour is optional, if used must relate to the finished look Beards can be pre done. Any hair art or tattooing is to be done on the competition floor

55 EVENT 7: Model: Time Allowed: Stylist: THE COLOUR PRESENTATION EVENT Female or Male Five Minutes Senior Next Generation o The colour must compliment the style, be technically well executed, and show clever placement o All colour work must be pre-done by the competitor prior to arrival at the venue o Multiple entries are allowed o New models and models from Events 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 may be used (models from Event 6 cannot be used in this event) but must not have had their hair changed in anyway in between the original event and the beginning of event 7 (The Colour Event). o Hairpieces / extensions may be used but MUST be 100% coloured by the entrant. o Wigs are forbidden
