4 February 2018 Data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows continued growth in cosmetic procedures over the last year. Since the start of the new millennium there has been a shift in the types of procedures patients have chosen. In my practice, Facial Rejuvenation remains the number one reason patients schedule a consult, but we have seen a steady increase in the number of patients seeking consultation for breast lift surgery. With aging, weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding the breasts lose volume which often cause them to flatten and sag. Many women find their clothing no longer fits properly and the low hanging weight of their breasts causes their shoulders to droop and their backs to hunch forward. Women are remaining in the workforce longer and are more socially active than in any previous generation and their comfort and appearance is important to them. Photographs are obtained, and an examination is performed to determine whether you are a candidate. Depending on the volume of your breast and the shape you are considering, I may recommend silicone implants in addition to the breast lift. After surgery, you will need an adult to stay with you the first night and drive you to your appointment the next day. Most women can return to work and social obligations in 7 days. While exercise is limited initially, you can expect to return to activity without limitations at 6-weeks post operatively. Lifting the breasts gives the appearance of a longer torso and creates an aesthetically pleasing silhouette.
