4 HAIR AND BEAUTY INDUSTRY AWARD 2010 These are the minimum wage rates applicable to employees employed under the Hair and Beauty Industry Award That is, employers and their employees in the hair and beauty industry employed in the classifications defined in Schedule B of the Award, to the exclusion of any other modern award. 5 PART 1: ADULT WAGE RATES AND ALLOWANCES ALLOWANCES/PENALTIES NOTE Not all provisions of the Award are listed in this section. For more detail on definitions, allowances, hours of work and overtime, junior rates, apprentice payments and other employment conditions, please refer to the Award. CLAUSE 3 DEFINITIONS Standard rate means the minimum weekly wage for a level 3 Hair and Beauty classification in clause 17, currently CLAUSE 21 ALLOWANCES 21.2 Meal allowances (a) An employee required to work more than one hour of overtime without being given 24 hours notice after the employee s ordinary time of ending work will be either provided with a meal or paid a meal allowance of Where such overtime work exceeds four hours a further meal allowance will be paid Tool allowance (a) The employer must reimburse the employee for the cost of all electrical equipment necessary for carrying out their work. This provision does not apply where electrical equipment is provided at the employer s expense. (b) Where an employee is required to use their own tools the employer must pay to the employee a tool allowance of 8.99 per week. CLAUSE 31.2 PENALTY RATES FT/PT Casual Mon - Fri Saturday Sunday 100% (from 7am-9pm) 125% (from 7am-9pm) 133% (from 7am-6pm) 133% (from 7am-6pm) 200% (from 10am-5pm) 200% (from 10am-5pm) Other penalties apply for work performed outside of the hours specified in the above table. CLAUSE 35 PUBLIC HOLIDAYS All time worked on a public holiday by full time, part time and casual employees shall be paid for at the rate of 250%. Page 5 of 7

7 PART 2: CLASSIFICATION DEFINITIONS Schedule B: Classification Definitions of the Hair and Beauty Award 2010 provides a description of the duties of each award classification which assists in determining an employee s applicable rate of pay. Below is an extract of Schedule B: Classification Definitions from the Hair and Beauty Award Schedule B CLASSIFICATION DEFINITIONS B.1 Level 1 means a receptionist or salon assistant. B.2 Level 2 means: (a) (b) (c) a make-up artist who holds a Certificate II in make-up services (or equivalent); a nail technician who holds a Certificate II in Nail Technology (or equivalent); or an unqualified beautician or cosmetologist. B.3 Level 3 means: (a) (b) a beautician who holds a Certificate III in Beauty Services (or equivalent); or a hairdresser who holds a Certificate III in Hairdressing (or equivalent). B.4 Level 4 means a Beauty Therapist who holds a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy (or equivalent). B.5 Level 5 means: (a) (b) a hairdresser who holds a Certificate IV (or equivalent); or a trichologist who is a hairdresser and holds a Certificate IV in Trichology (or equivalent). B.6 Level 6 means a beauty therapist who holds a Diploma in Beauty Therapy (or equivalent). Page 7 of 7
