5 CLEAN AIR IS A MUST FOR PATIENT SAFETY Two ideologies: 1. HTM/ISO take in ambient air, use any type of air compression method (oil-injected or oilfree) and ensure patient safety by means of an ultra high purification system (MED + QDT) 2. NFPA99 (US) / CSA (CAN) be more stringent on air quality intake and ensure patient safety by not adding contaminants during the air compression stage In normal operation both systems will provide clean air, however only oil-free solutions fully eliminate the risk of oil carry-over to the patient

24 LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDICAL COMPRESSORS Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC Due to the compressor being considered part of a Medical Device (Medical Airplant), it should: Have a risk analysis Software should be compliant with EN62304 (class A) Software should be extensively tested acc. to standard Test report should be created and available on request EMC test performed (Domestic/industrial Environment!) Be part of technical file (MDMF) for a Medical Airplant Have automatic-restart-after-power-failure activated Additional safety features based on Risk Analysis Specific test procedures during design, production, installation and commissioning Tested as a complete package Medical Airplant ISO HTM
