1 DECOLOR B SHIMMER Questions & Answers A. General SHIMMER questions: 1. Who is the ideal client for a SHIMMER service? SHIMMER can be used on 100% of clients who have color treated or natural hair, estimated to be no less than 70% of all clients sitting in your chair. (An estimated 30% of clients may have some degree of compromised or prelightened hair and SHIMMER should not be used in those instances.) 2. Is SHIMMER a permanent lightening/highlighting service? 3. Is 5 minutes the processing time? NO. There is no processing time with SHIMMER past the flat ironing until dry. 4. Then what is the 5 minute start to finish? The 5 minute is the approximate amount of time it takes to perform the SHIMMER service, which includes 3-4 highlights. 5. Can SHIMMER be used on both color treated and natural hair? 1

2 6. How many levels of lift can I expect from SHIMMER? Up to 2 levels 7. Is there a certain level of haircolor that SHIMMER works best on? SHIMMER will work on all levels, adding beautiful dimension and shine. On darker levels, the results will be slightly less noticeable, but the beauty of SHIMMER is that it replaces the minutes of a traditional lightening service. 8. Can I use SHIMMER on any hair color brand? 9. Can I apply SHIMMER to bleached or previously highlighted hair? NO. We do not recommend SHIMMER on previously bleached, highlighted or compromised hair. 10. Will SHIMMER work on all ethnic hair types (African American, Asian, Spanish, etc.)? The only limitations are bleached and compromised hair 11. Will SHIMMER stay on tone and not go Brassy or expose warmth? What makes SHIMMER totally revolutionary is that the hair is lifted ON TONE! 12. Is SHIMMER as permanent as other permanent lightening done with foils or balayage techniques? 13. Can I use SHIMMER the same day as a Keratin Smoothing Service? As always, a test strand with the SHIMMER is recommended prior to use. 14. Is SHIMMER recommended for full-head highlights? YES. You can add as many highlights as you wish using SHIMMER for up to 2 levels of lift. 2

3 15. Is the steam produced when using SHIMMER with a flat iron hazardous to my health? NO. The small amount of steam that is produced when flat ironing the hair is non-toxic. It is just water permeated steam. 16. What type of flat iron gives the best results? A high quality flat iron with temperature settings in degrees (Ceramic, Tourmaline, Titanium or Platinum) that also allows medium tension of the hair and glides through the hair without snagging will give the best results 17. How many passes with the flat iron are required with SHIMMER? Amount needed until the hair is dry. No more than 6 passes. 18. Will SHIMMER stop processing after the hair is dry? YES. Once SHIMMER is dry, it will never continue to process. 19. Can I use SHIMMER to lighten up a color that has processed too dark? A few highlights around the face will give the appearance of the overall color being brighter. 20. Will I get lightening if I use the blow dryer or a hood dryer instead of the flat iron? NO. A blow dryer or hood dryer will never achieve the temperatures recommended for SHIMMER ( degrees F) 21. Can I use SHIMMER the same day as a permanent wave or thio based relaxer (Silis)? As always, a test strand is recommended prior to SHIMMER. 22. Can I use SHIMMER on hair that was lifted with Haircolor? 23. Can I conduct a SHIMMER service over the top of ethnic type hair that is porous? YES, depending on the integrity of the hair. A test strand is recommended to determine if a lower heat setting is required ( ⁰F). 3

4 24. Can SHIMMER be used on hair that has been relaxed with a Sodium/Calcium based relaxer? NO. 25. What is SHIMMER? If I m out of SHIMMER, can I substitute peroxide? NO! With a substitute peroxide, you run a high risk of burning the hair and causing irreparable damage. NO other product will give you these results. 27. Can I use high lift color or bleach after using SHIMMER? Yes, depending on the integrity of the hair. As always, a test strand is recommended. 28. Can I mix SHIMMER with Olaplex and use it on previously bleached or compromised hair? NO. SHIMMER is not recommended on bleached or compromised hair. 29. Can I mix a conditioning agent or anything else with SHIMMER? NO. Mixing anything with SHIMMER will dilute its effectiveness and is not recommended. 30. Since there is no rinsing after SHIMMER, is there a scent or lingering odor left in the hair after the service? There is NO scent and NO lingering odor left on the hair after SHIMMER. 31. What ingredient makes SHIMMER lift on tone without exposing brassiness or warmth? Italian magic 4

5 32. Is SHIMMER Vegan? YES. SHIMMER is 100% Vegan 33. Is SHIMMER Gluten Free? YES. SHIMMER is gluten free 34. If I have a new client and do not know their hair history, can I use SHIMMER? A test strand is recommended to expose any hidden issues/previous bleach service that has been colored over etc. 35. Will SHIMMER cause my client who has virgin hair to turn brassy? NO! SHIMMER lifts natural virgin hair on tone. 36. Is the integrity of the hair safe even though we are flat ironing on wet hair? SHIMMER contains a unique combination of panthenol and powerful cationic conditioning agents that form a thermal protective shield on the hair to protect against the flat iron heat. 37. Can I use the curling iron instead of a flat iron? NO. The curling iron is NOT recommended because with the flat iron, you are able to quickly and evenly pass through the hair with tension for even results with heat being applied to BOTH sides of the hair. The curling iron would cause uneven bends, uneven color and potential damage to the hair. 38. Will SHIMMER stop processing when the hair is dry, even out in the sunlight? Once SHIMMER is activated with the flat iron and the hair is dry, SHIMMER is no longer on the hair and the hair will not continue to lighten 39. Does SHIMMER work like products such as Sun In Hair Lightener? NO! SHIMMER is a proprietary blend of ingredients that allows the hair to quickly lift up to 2 levels on tone, leaving the hair in its natural ph state, with condition and shine. These sun type products typically lift the hair off tone, continue to work when exposed to the sun, dry out the hair and leave it in a damaged, bleached like state that cannot accept any additional chemical services. 5

6 40. Is this product going to end up on retail shelves for consumers? NO. Framesi s position is that this type of product can only be used by a professional stylist and can never be successfully launched on a retail shelf. Framesi in 45 years has only sold product to the professional stylist and has never diverted. PROCEDURE QUESTIONS 1. If I apply lightly OR accidently over apply SHIMMER, will I still get the same amount of lift? There is no need to saturate the hair. A light application of SHIMMER is sufficient. 2. If the hair is wet or damp prior to applying SHIMMER, will it affect the end result? SHIMMER must be applied to dry hair. Applying to wet hair would dilute the product and produce inferior results. 3. When using the flat iron with SHIMMER, I hear a slight hissing sound while the heat passes over the hair until the hair is dry. Is this safe for hair (not burning)? If you over apply, it is normal to see steam (which is not harmful) and hear a slight hissing sound when using the flat iron. 4. What happens if I use a temperature on my flat iron higher than 375 degrees F? Using a flat iron higher than 375 degrees will affect the integrity of the hair and possibly cause unnecessary damage. 5. Should I protect the eyes when using SHIMMER close to the eyes for highlighting around the face? YES, as when using any product around the eyes. Ask the guest to close their eyes or simply place a framesi Visible on the forehead. 6

7 6. Can I apply more than 2 applications of SHIMMER on the same section? NO. Only 2 applications are recommended on the same section and this produces maximum lift you will achieve. More than 2 applications of SHIMMER on the same section can affect the integrity of the hair. 7. Can I apply color over SHIMMER to refresh faded ends or remove the highlights? YES. 8. I noticed a buildup of product on my flat iron. Can this buildup be removed? Simply wipe your iron with a wet towel to remove the build-up. 9. Will SHIMMER stop lightening after the salon service even if I use the flat iron? YES. Once the hair is dry, SHIMMER has stopped processing 10. If I use SHIMMER on a client with product build-up from waxes and hairspray, will it affect the amount of lift? SHIMMER is recommended during the styling stage on clean, dry hair. 11. Can SHIMMER be used to blend regrowth on old highlights? SHIMMER can be used to blend regrowth, remaining ½ inch away from scalp, and must not be applied to the previously bleached or lightened ends. 12. Can I use any product on my hair for Cleansing, Conditioning or Styling after using SHIMMER? FRAMESI COLOR LOVER is an excellent maintenance choice for >95% longer lasting color results. 13. Can I wash my hair immediately after SHIMMER if I want to? 7

8 14. What is the best procedure to follow for applying a few highlights on one length hair parted straight down the middle? Always stay ½ inch away from the part line to apply your SHIMMER highlights. 15. I noticed that there was a bend on the hair after using SHIMMER on a few sections? What caused this bend on the hair? A bend can occur if the flat iron is held on one spot too long. It s extremely important to pass the iron from root to end (staying ½ inch away from scalp) with medium tension and without stopping, in one fluid motion, to avoid bends and uneven color results. 16. I sometimes get uneven results from root to end, or lighter spots along the hair when using SHIMMER. What can be causing this? In the rare instance that the results are not even, make sure you are using a high quality iron and quickly and smoothly flat ironing the hair from root to end, without stopping. Also, make sure the hair is clean with no buildup from waxes, dry shampoos, hair spray etc. 17. Can you use SHIMMER over Henna type colors? NO. Products like Henna contains metallic dyes which coat the hair and interfere with ANY additional color services. This is not unique to SHIMMER. 18. If I want to use SHIMMER to lighten the hair up to 2 levels and then apply a bright direct dye haircolor over the top, can I do this? 19. If I applied a Direct Dye haircolor, such as Vivids, on top of a light brown/blonde without bleaching first, can I SHIMMER over the top of it? 20. After using SHIMMER on a new client that told me she was never bleached, the flat iron stuck to the hair instead of gliding. What caused this? When the hair sticks to the iron, there can be a trace of bleach in the hair and you must stop the SHIMMER service, even if your client tells you otherwise. If the hair is very long, the bleach may have been used years ago, but is still in the hair. 8

9 21. If I use SHIMMER to lighten the hair around the face, can I then apply an overlay of Framcolor Eclectic all over? 22. If the hair is lightened with a few bleached highlights, can I use SHIMMER? Simply avoid the currently bleached highlights 23. If my client has curly hair and styles it curly, how am I supposed to use SHIMMER with a flat iron? Simply conduct the SHIMMER service and when you are finished re wet the section you SHIMMERED and style normally. 24. Can I use a professional iron if it does not have a calibration of temperatures but only has low, medium and high settings, or an on/off switch? Due to the various differences in manufacturer specs, please call the manufacturer and inquire as to the calibration of temperature (degrees). A solution is to purchase a flat iron that has degree settings if the answer cannot be obtained. 25. Since SHIMMER does not stain the hands, is it necessary to wear gloves? YES, as with all chemical processes, gloves are recommended from start to finish to avoid potential sensitivity. * The foregoing Q&A is based on framesi s own testing and observation of Shimmer and its performance.
