4 PROPER TECHNIQUES FOR TOUCHING YOUR EYE CONTOUR The area around your eyeballs is commonly referred to as the eye contour 1. It comprises the tissues directly below your eyebrows, around the outside eye corners, below the lower lid and the inside corner. Your eye socket, or orbital bone, mostly defines the contour. You can feel subtle notches and cups along the bone when you press gently. The tissues surrounding your eyes comprise the most delicate, easy to damage elements of your face. Aggressive rubbing, combined with age, can loosen the fatty cells and connective tissues and pull the skin away from muscle, causing droops and wrinkles. Several issues can draw extra lymph fluid to the sensitive tissues in your eye contours and create puffiness. These are: Insufficient sleep, excess sleep, allergies, monthly hormonal shifts, diets replete with unhealthy foods, and even sleeping flat rather than with the head elevated. Reducing puffiness and forestalling the signs of aging begins with proper techniques for handling your eye contours. You want to work with the muscles around your eyes, not against them. Whether you re cleansing, applying hydration products, makeup or acupressure, always use the pads of your fingers or thumbs with gentle pressure. The direction of motion to follow is from the inner corner on the upper lid around, to the outer corners, then underneath towards the inner corner again. 5 USE ACUPRESSURE FOR EASY EYE LIFTS Because you want to avoid damaging the fragile skin, muscles, and fatty tissue in your eye contour, remember to use gentle yet firm pressure with just the pads of your fingers as you practice mini eye lifts. You should never feel a fingernail as you press the acupoints. Before you commence your mini eye lifts, warm your hands by vigorously rubbing them together about 50 times. This action also energizes them. Relax with a few deep breaths, and you re ready to go. Start by pressing slowly and easily. Increase pressure gradually until you ve reached a stage where it feels good, but would begin to hurt if you pressed harder. Take a deep breath and slowly exhale while holding your fingers at this level of pressure for seven seconds. After seven seconds, slowly lighten the pressure until your finger pad rests on the skin. Leave your finger in the rest phase for five more seconds. Avoid touching any area with wounds, sunburn, irritation, or pustules. Since acupoints connect bilaterally to other points in your body, you may notice simultaneous sensations as you press the meridians in your eye contour. 5

6 WORKING THE UPPER LID The illustrations note the numbered acupoints around your eyes. For the upper lid lift, you ll stimulate points 3 and 8 on each eye. Point 3 rests in the center of your eyebrows, while point 8 can be found in the center notch in your upper eye socket. Begin with a very light touch on point 3. Slowly increase pressure. Add pressure slowly and steadily until further pressure would begin to hurt. Stop there. You never want to cross from pleasure to pain. Hold while you count to seven. Repeat two more times. Now, do the same for point 8. Once you ve stimulated points 3 and 8 three times each, gently tap those acupoints for one minute each. 6

7 WORKING BETWEEN THE EYES Move on to points 4, 5, 11 and 3 again. Point 4 is found between your eyebrows; point 5 will be the inside edges of your eyebrows, and 11 rests on the bridge of your nose. Apply maximum pressure to these points for seven seconds. Then, using your index fingers, tap points 4 and 11 at the same time for one minute. WORKING UNDER THE EYE The under eye portion of your eye lift massages points 9 and 10. Find point 9 at the outside corner of the eyes. Point 10 will be at the notch in the center of your lower orbital bone. You can apply the same stimulation technique to points 9and 10, followed by tapping each for another minute. However, because this area is particularly tender, you can skip the pressure and simply tap gently instead. 7

8 WORKING THE OUTER CORNERS The eye lift exercises for the outer corners of your eyes will involve points 5, 6, 10 and 17. These points actually surround the eye and include the corners of your mouth, as well. Point 5, as you recall, is the inside tip of your eyebrows; point 6 is the opposite end, the outside tip of your eyebrows. Point 10, again, is the center notch in your lower eye socket; point 17 rests close to, but not quite on, the corners of your mouth. Using maximum pressure, stimulate these points for the full seven seconds followed by gentle tapping of point 5 for one minute. Now, you have accomplished the mini eye lift. It s possible to see results immediately. When you practice these exercises each day for a month, others will begin to notice the results, too. 8

9 TIGHTER UPPER EYE LIDS IN JUST FIVE SECONDS By following this quick, five-second system, you can completely avoid future eyelid lift surgery. It s quite easy, and you may see results on the first day. Here s what you do: Prepare the skin around your eyes by first spritzing with mineral water. Then work some hydrating cream around your forehead and eyes to allow your fingers to move freely as you work. Next, touch point 6, the outer edges of your eyebrows, with your index fingers. Let your middle and ring fingers touch the middle and inside edges of your eyebrows. With light pressure, blink once to test for a firm, but not too intense, hold on the muscles below your fingers. Now, using your fingers to gently lift your eyebrows, squeeze your eyes shut slowly. Your fingers should slip over your skin. However, if you haven t applied a cream, use only enough pressure to cause your fingers to move over the muscles. Without slippage, you could cause wrinkles. Repeat the movements three times then rest for a count of five. Do the set one more time, and you re done for the day! For eyes with an almond shape, prepare as noted with mineral water and cream, but apply pressure only to both eyebrow ends while skipping the middle. Do this only a maximum of two times per day. Anymore and it ll be overkill! HOW TO REDUCE PUFFY LOWER LIDS You can lessen under eye puffiness with the following exercise. Spritz and cream as above. Then rest your index fingers on your cheek bones below the outer corners of your eyes. Your middle fingers go on the bone below the centers. Slowly squeeze your eyes shut using light pressure for a little resistance. Repeat once. Perform no more than twice per day. 9

10 METHODS TO BRIGHTEN YOUR EYES Many things besides age can cause your eyes to develop bags, wrinkles, and dark circles. Allergies, partying, too little sleep, and eye strain can wreak havoc on your sensitive peepers. Here s a list of effective remedies that you can do by placing these items over or around your puffy eyes: Cool Packs Those little rectangular gel packs that don t quite freeze solid or those designed specifically as masks. Cool Cucumbers Soak slices of cucumber in milk first then place over the eyes. Bags for Bags After brewing your tea, save the bags in the fridge for eye compresses. Any tea will do, but the herbs eyebright, fennel, parsley, and chamomile help clear dark circles and cleanse as well. Sweet Melon A ten-minute rest with thin slices of casaba melon (or pear) arranged under your eyes can reduce the puff. Grated Taters and Apples Wrap potato or apple gratings in gauze for effective treatment of swollen eye tissue. Cold Cotton Soak cotton balls or pads in cold milk, buttermilk or witch hazel, and take ten minutes to relax with them. Tea and E Use Cold Comfrey tea bags like usual, but follow up with vitamin E lightly patted under the eyes. Fig-ure This To remove dark circles, cut a fig in two and place the halves under your eyes. Essentials Using cotton, make cold compresses with essential oils. Use any or all together. Tincture eight ounces of cold distilled water with 1 or 2 drops of clary sage, rose, chamomile, geranium or fennel. Sweet Feet Since your feet and eyes share a meridian, you can soak your feet in cool water with six drops of peppermint oil to rejuvenate your eyes. Sleepy Lavender Try a couple of drops of lavender oil on your pillow at night. More Lavender Also, apply a drop of lavender to each temple to release eye strain. Epsom Salt Foot Baths Soak first in a hot Epsom salts foot bath for three minutes, then in a cold bath for as long as you like. 10

11 CONCLUSION That s it! Simple, effortless exercises and tips you can do in the comfort of your own home, with just a few minutes in your daily routine. For some people, you may see significant results immediately, while for others it may take a few days or even a couple of weeks to see improvement. It depends on various factors such as your age, your skin type, any underlying physical condition, your diet, lifestyle, and many more. Therefore, don t be discouraged if you don t notice any difference initially. The years you ll get off your face is absolutely worth the little time you invest in these daily exercises! 11
