Ridgeway Primary School Art Week 20 th -26 th May 2016
Rainbow Tots and Pre-Nursery Art Week 2016 We looked at the artist Lowry. We talked about the different places that Lowry chose to either paint or draw. The children were given a choice of settings to either paint or draw. Tots used lines and circles to create their scenery. Pre-Nursery used paint to create their background and then lollypop sticks for people.
Nursery Art Week, David Hockney Photo collages It s like a puzzle Emma This week we have been learning about the British artist David Hockney. We looked at his photo collages and then we used the camera to take photos and then arranged them in a random order in his style. Hockney makes them all muddled Matthew We opened Sunbeams Studio to the public to display our work. Our parents and carers came to look at our work and we showed them what we had been learning. We have really enjoyed learning about the artist David Hockney and we were all very creative in how we arranged our pictures. We also loved having our gallery and everyone looking at our work! Your face looks really silly Riley F
Arts Week J I really enjoyed creating the background for my 3D picture. Jack Dyche We loved that our families could come into school to appreciate our artwork. We were very proud of all of our hard work. 1J had a fantastic time during Arts Week. Our artist was called MacKenzie Thorpe. We really enjoyed looking at different pieces of his artwork. We used pastels to create pieces of work in the style of MacKenzie Thorpe. We also had a go at creating animals in his style of art. We learnt that he uses bright colours, simple shapes and makes the head a lot bigger than the body. We also created a 3D picture during Arts Week. We found out that MacKenzie Thorpe is a British artist from Middlesbrough. His pictures are inspired by memories from his childhood. I found out that MacKenzie Thorpe uses a really big head for the people in his pictures. Maisy Lowe We used pastels to create a picture of a person in the style of MacKenzie Thorpe. Megan
Arts Week L I loved using the chalk to draw around our bodies and then use shapes to fill in the silhouette Grace Donovan-Smith We loved that our families could come into school to appreciate our artwork. We were very proud of all of our hard work. 1L have absolutely loved Arts week this term! The artist we chose to study was Anthony Cragg (Tony Cragg) who is a famous British sculptor. We found out that he uses materials, old and new, to create art work on the walls of building. He uses the colourful materials to create silhouettes of different objects, peoples and countries. After observing his work and discussing how we thought he had created it, we designed our own silhouettes and drew shapes of all different sizes and colours inside. Once we had done this, we chose our favourite designs and recreated our designs on a larger scale using different objects and materials just like Tony Cragg did in his work. After our final piece of artwork was finished, governors, teachers and our family came to have a look at our work. They thought it was very imaginative and colourful! I was in a group that created a rocket! We used lots of different colours and I liked using the cars to create the window. Alfie Parosns Miss Le Page said we could use any objects we wanted in the classroom. It was fun looking through the draws and boxes to find different shapes and colours! Harrison Garlick
2B Art s Week One of the skills we learnt to help us recreate Vanessa Bowman s art was to create patterns. We split our page into four sections and drew four different patterns with different colours on. We also practised drawing different types of flowers, this was hard! It makes me feel calm because the colours are light and pretty. Leila We looked at lots of different examples of Vanessa s work. We then answered questions about how it made us feel and what we thought about it. 2B have been learning about the British Artist Vanessa Bowman. We have learnt that Vanessa draws still life images. She draws flowers in patterned vases which are on tables, sometimes she draws different fruits on the table. Our first job was to look at all of Vanessa s paintings and answer questions about how they made us feel and what we thought of them. We then practised different skills to help us recreate Vanessa s paintings. Finally, we go to recreate one of her paintings and show them in our own art gallery. I loved using pastels because we haven t used them before. Casey I loved the art gallery because we could see all of our work that we had been working on all
Art week in 2S I really enjoyed doing the art work this week, it was the best week ever. Sam Angel-Parsons I thought this art was really fun, I like the one of me. John Stezaker John Stezaker attended the Slade School of Art in London, graduating with a Higher Diploma in Fine Art in In the early 1970s, he was among the first wave of British conceptual artists. His work is surreal in tone and is often made using collage and he often uses pre-existing images In 2S we decided we liked his work and thought we could put our own spin on his marriage collection. Rather than joining photos of couples we created a friend collection. We also used wax crayons and charcoal to create split images. We really enjoyed learning new shading skills and displaying our art work for our parents to see. I used wax crayon to draw Harry. Logan
Arts Week 2016 Year 3 I was so happy when I found out that Mr Seager had awarded my work a golden star! Ella W We talked with parents and visitors, explaining who Rosie is and expressed our opinions about her art. Year 3 have had a fantastic time during Art Week! To begin the week, we found out about the life and works of British artist, Rosie Sanders. We discovered that she studied art at school and college and was a passionate artist from a young age. We looked at examples of her work and shared our thought about them. Then, we began to develop our sketching skills by drawing flowers and fruits, adding colour using pastels and watercolours, just like Rosie uses. For our final pieces, we decided which still life we wanted to use in our own art. We worked hard to create our own fantastic pieces of fruits and flowers, inspired by Rosie and enjoyed sharing them with parents and visitors during the gallery opening. I loved sketching flowers like Rosie Sanders and used pastels for the first time, Olivia W Rosie Sanders inspired my art work because her art was so realistic and very detailed. Ellis
Art week in 4E I learned that Bridget Riley was famous for op art, Chloe T. I loved drawing optical illusions, although it sent my eyes funny, Jayden. Bridget Riley Bridget Louise Riley CH CBE is an English painter who is one of the foremost exponents of Op art. When Bridget Riley first exhibited her black and white abstract paintings in the 1960s, people were amazed at how they seemed to move. It was like she was painting with electricity and the patterns were live wires!
Art Focus Week Helen Brough I learnt how to use many different types of media. My favourite was working with paint. Zac I enjoyed creating a piece of art over several days rather than just in one lesson. Beth A Day at the Tate Creating our own gallery has been hard work but extremely rewarding; we are all enormously proud with the work we have created. Pupils began the week by learning about the Tate gallery and its importance within British society a gallery that exhibits and celebrates the work of British artists. Pupils were then introduced to the British artist Helen Brough; we researched her life and achievements to date and then went on to look at and discuss numerous pieces of her artwork. We answered many HOTS questions that were displayed on pieces of her artwork around the room and discussed pieces in groups and as a class, stating which one was our favourite and why. The rest of the week was spent on using many techniques and a variety of media to create pieces of our own that emulated those of Helen Brough. To celebrate our achievements, parents and governors were invited to come and visit the Ridgeway Gallery where we had the chance to exhibit our work and tell them of all the skills we had learnt and improved in just one week! I found it interesting studying one artist and looking at all her pieces of art. I loved the Saatchi art. Demzi I liked using a piece of Helen Brough s art and making something similar of my own. Alex R
Arts Week R I really enjoyed drawing some of Damien Hirst s art, my favourite was the shark in the tank. Harrison F Oliver Nightingale We really enjoyed sharing our art work with parents and talking about what we have learnt so far. 5R have really enjoyed Arts week this year! We chose to study the work of the artist, Damien Hirst. In November, we went on a trip to the New Walsall Art Gallery, where some of Hirst s work was being exhibited. This created a lot of discussion and interest and so it was very exciting to attempt to recreate his art. We firstly looked at the different examples of Hirst s art and chose our favourite, discussing it as a class and giving our reasons. After that, we attempted to recreate examples of our favourite pieces in our sketch books and answered questions all about them. For the Art afternoon, we recreated three pieces of work, the first two being abstract and very colourful, and the third being a more classical portrait. We all really enjoyed showing our work to parents who were all very complimentary about our work! My favourite piece was the abstract paint splash, it was really fun getting messy with the paints! Ryley It was really fun turning the classroom into an art gallery, I really liked seeing all our work on display. Amber W
I enjoyed creating the banner! Oliver Nightingale Arts Week 2016 Year 6 We invited parents in to come and see what we have been doing for Arts Week! We created a walking gallery around the school and even got to see what the other year groups had been up to. We created a banner for our classroom to show off the artist that we have been studying this week. Year 6 have really enjoyed Art Week! We researched the British artist Grayson Perry and really liked how his work tried to identify British values and things that stand out as being British! We used these ideas to try to create our own Grayson Perry-esque pieces. We tried to mix some British values and ideas with things that are quintessentially Ridgeway to create a piece that shows how proud we are to be both British and part of Ridgeway! I liked including bits to do with Ridgeway! It was fun to think of all the British values! Lilly-Mae Hadley Will Wilson We were all very proud of our finished art work; we tried really hard to show off all of the British and Ridgeway values!
