2 Naumai e te whanau o te kura Brooklyn Tena koutou katoa Dear Parents/Caregivers The term is half way through and we are busy with trips to the City Gallery, Te Papa and Festival of Sport for the Moa syndicate. ArtSplash and DanceSplash are being showcased next week. Children have been working very hard on their performance and we are looking forward to seeing them perform. If you haven t already purchased you tickets, we still have some available at the school office. To follow on from our last newsletter on Growth Mindsets, here is a link to how to encourage students to persist through challenges, sounds a bit like our school motto: Take Up the Challenge : ww2.kqed.org/mindshift/2015/08/24/growthmindset-how-to-normalize-mistake-making-andstruggle-in-class/ We recently had an incident involving our children using Instagram. Help us keep our children safe in the online environment and I suggest parents visit Netsafe s website: netsafe.org.nz/a-parents-guide-toinstagram/ Thank you for all your calendar art orders. The art I see displayed in classroom is looking wonderful. We are continuing with the art theme this term and are holding an Art Festival on Wednesday 16 September to Friday 18 September. The exhibition will open at 3pm on Wednesday and will finish at 1pm on the Friday. Art will be displayed in the Moa block hallway and Common Room, Library and School Hall. We hope you are able to come along to view the art. The viewing times are: Wednesday 3pm-5.30pm Thursday 8am-5pm Friday 8am-1pm Here are two pieces of writing from students in Room 6 about their Special Place: My Special Place My special place is my mind. In my mind I control everything, everyone and everywhere. The sky is a vibrant gold, like the inside of the vault at the bank and the clouds are as blue as the sea in real life (being my mind and all, the sea is made of the most exquisite strawberry jelly you ll ever taste.) All the buildings magically levitate ten feet above the ground (which by the way is neon yellow) so you have to use hover platforms to reach them. However, as amazing as these things sound, my favourite thing about my mind is my thinking space. In my thinking space it is so silent you can hear a feather fall a light year away*! I like to sit and think in there. Sometimes I think for hours on end without ever stopping. That is why my mind is my favourite place to be. The End By The amazing Liam McNeill *P.S. this is actually correct. The engineers tried it, so for those of you who thought it was a figure of speech it s not My Special Place All I need is a pen and a piece of paper and magic happens. I m curled up in a corner my dog on my lap watching my pen slipping through my fingers and gracefully dancing onto my paper. Ideas and thoughts flow through my head, down my arm and onto my paper. Black simple words but yet a colourful imagination. With just a tight concealed space, sun on my back, doing my favourite thing I could stay here forever, if only. Page after page hour after hour, doing something so simple, yet so crazy. I finally finish my page with the two words: The End. Although it was the end of my story, it was never the end of My Special place.i grab a couple more pieces of paper and my adventure states again.all I need is a pen and a piece of paper to make My Special place.
