Spanish Language Tours Spun Spanish Language tours will be held at 2 p.m. every First Free Saturday, May 19 September 22. Tactile Tours Tactile tours will be held at 2 p.m. on July 13, August 10 and September 14. Nooner Tours Explore a different topic every week in a thirty-minute tour, offered on Wednesdays and Fridays at noon. Nooner Tours are included with general museum admission. 2 Things to see and do Quilt Studio May 19 September 22 Visitors can explore the innovative world of contemporary quilting and immerse themselves in the creative process in the Quilt Studio. Weekend demonstrations by local artists will provide a behind the-scenes look at quilting practices and encourage visitors to try their hand at assorted techniques. Community Quilt Visitors to the Quilt Studio will be invited to participate in a community quilting project on a wall in the Hamilton lobby. Over the course of Spun, visitors will be able to see the Community Quilt unfold as new sections are completed and become integrated into the project. Denver Satellite Reef Saturdays and Sundays, May 19 September 22 The Institute For Figuring's Crochet Coral Reef project, an installation that combines mathematics, marine biology, hyperbolic crochet techniques and community art practice, will be on view at the Denver Art Museum this summer. Visitors are invited to crochet their own reef creations to add to the ever-growing local reef project, the Denver Satellite Reef. Located in the Hub on level three of the Hamilton Building, the Denver Satellite Reef welcomes all visitors to try their hand at hyperbolic crochet and add to this immersive ecosystem. PreVIEW May 18 19, 1 p.m. 3 p.m. Thursdays, 12:30 p.m. 2:30 p.m., May 23 September 26 Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how DAM staff prepares works of art for display. For two hours on a weekly basis (and during the Spun opening weekend), visitors can observe and interact with conservation and other staff as they assess, handle and treat objects from the textile art collection. Learn about tools, processes and equipment; special conditions necessary for fragile objects and the general hows and whys of conservation. For the full schedule, visit Artist-in-Residence: Marie Watt July Join artist-in-residence Marie Watt as she leads sewing circles for all visitors that wish to join no experience necessary. Work together, learn a new stitch and share your own blanket stories with other visitors. A new installation by Marie Watt will also be on view in the American Indian art galleries. Annual Friendship Powwow and American Indian Cultural Celebration September 7, 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Join the DAM for the 24th Annual Friendship Powwow.

Visitors will have the opportunity to work with artist-in-residence Marie Watt as she leads a sewing circle.

Watch dyeing demonstrations and try your hand at natural dyeing on the plaza. See how to transform the plants in your garden into natural dyes for your own textile projects.

3 Annual Friendship Powwow and American Indian Cultural Celebration September 7, 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Join the DAM for the 24th Annual Friendship Powwow. This one-day, family event will feature American Indian dancers, artist demonstrations, hands-on activities, vendors and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to work with artist-in-residence Marie Watt as she leads a sewing circle. Dye Garden Harvest September 14 Come see the changes that have taken place in our plaza dye garden over the summer and learn the basics of natural dyeing from experts. Watch dyeing demonstrations and try your hand at natural dyeing on the plaza. See how to transform the plants in your garden into natural dyes for your own textile projects. Precourt Family Discovery Hall Contemporary artist Nick Cave will transform the Precourt Family Discovery Hall into an immersive, interactive felt environment. Visitors will complete and decorate felt silhouettes and 3-D mannequins inspired by Cave s Soundsuits and sculptures while a video projection in the space will bring Cave s Soundsuit performances to life. DAM_SCOUT Our interactive smart phone app, DAM_SCOUT, utilizes QR codes to connect visitors with additional content about artists, art objects, creative process, culture and more. During Spun: Adventures in Textiles, there will be 30 new DAM_SCOUT stops throughout the museum buildings for visitors to discover. Untitled Final Fridays On the final Friday of the month, from 6 to 10 p.m., the DAM offers a unique museum experience with unconventional art encounters, new insight into the DAM collection, art making activities, cash bar and more. At each mixed-media Untitled event, the museum highlights a specific theme with exhibition-related activities and community collaborations. That means visitors get special access to their favorite curators, educators and community experts. Visitors can curate their own night by choosing from a full menu of activities ranging from crafty projects and tours with a twist to theater performances. Untitled #57 (Darn) May 31, 6 10 p.m. A DAM staff member gives a behind-the-scenes tour of the new the conservation lab and chats about techniques used to repair specific artworks. Pick-up mending skills in a community-led textile repair workshop. Untitled #58 (Getup) June 28, 6 10 p.m. Take a look at how the west was worn as DAM staff pair paintings with period artifacts. Untitled #61 (Harvest) September 27, 6 10 p.m. Take part in the de-install of our summer-long coral reef and take a tiny piece to bring home. We ll also be hauling in the last plants from our summer dye garden. Get the inside scoop on turning dandelions into dyes and using them to make colorful creations. Family Activity Menu Create Playdate Drop in with your little ones (ages 3 5) for art making, story time and gallery games on the second Wednesday of every month. Museum admission for children 5 and under is always free. Create Playdate: Stretch June 12, 10 a.m. 1 p.m. On June 12, explore the world of textiles as part of our Spun summer. Hear a story in the gallery and make textile-based art with other tots and their grown-ups. Create Playdate: Twist July 10, 10 a.m. 1 p.m. On July 10, toddlers can participate in story time and an artmaking activity all based on our Spun summer theme. Create Playdate: Spun August 14, 10 a.m. 1 p.m. On August 14, explore the galleries, take part in story time and join a textile-based art-making activity.
