1 Cayucos Art Association, Inc. PO Box 264, Cayucos, CA News - - March 2018 From Your President Breck Smith January, February, and March have been good months. Over 600 people visited the gallery during the Sea Glass Festival, generating $1,000 in sales. Every day people are surprised and delighted that and improve the gallery. We painted over the rust stains under the stair railing, which freshened up that big wall, and had weather- proof signage listing gallery hours and information made for the front door. Did you notice the gallery has a nice new card rack? Ingrid has secured a new heater to keep you warm, so please consider volunteering to sit. More days open = more sales. Please be sure to tell your friends, relatives and neighbors to vote for Proposition 68, the Parks, Environment, and llot measure, so tell everybody you know, from outside the area as well - including Clovis, Bakersfield, San Diego, etc. The summer is looking good, with more programs, activities and exhibitions to look forward to. Thank you for your support. ~Breck From the past President / Gallery Sitter Scheduler Ardella (Jo) Swanberg Hi everyone, Our art doesn't get seen unless the the Cayucos Community Art Gallery is open. We'd like the Gallery to be open every day but Tuesday from 1-4PM. My goal is that anyone has to sit only one day a month. It is getting really tough for me to find someone to open the Gallery. I try to phone everyone but I can't seem to make contact so watch for my . GUESS WHAT! We have a brand new heater!!! You won't freeze! Give me a call if you can help me out, ~Jo
2 The Gallery is open for all artists to show their work. We had lots of visitors and sales at the Gallery during the Seaglass Festival. Hectic but satisfying. Schedule of Gallery Exchange Days and Receptions 2018 Exchange day - April 5th Reception - April 8th *Note - one week later due to Easter Sunday being April 1st Exchange day - May 31st Reception - June 3rd Exchange day - August 2nd Reception - August 5th Exchange day - Oct. 4th Reception - October 7th Exchange day - Nov. 29th Reception - Dec. 2nd From the Gallery Director Ingrid Goelz * Receptions will be held on the First Sunday of even numbered months From Your Vice President Phil Colaprete Greetings everyone. Spring is springing over the Central Coast with our March rains calling forth Earth's carpet to fill in with Mother Nature's wonderful colors and new growth. Time again to dust off our art supplies and cameras and get out into seeing and allowing the beauty to inspire us. Our 2018 Painting Fun Days are held on alternate first Sundays of the month in the tent. Our recent Fun Day for March featured a demo of mat cutting by artist and instructor, Wayne Huston. It was a big hit for those learning a simplified way to whittle down some complexities of mat cutting. Thank you Wayne Huston and we look forward to seeing you again when you return from Alaska. As your Vice President, I am mostly in charge of scheduling all the odd numbered months demos from various skilled artists. I have a few artists in mind covering some interesting modes of artistic skills and perspectives, for example, hand made clay pieces and painting with collage materials. I will be setting up a demo schedule for this year. The next Fun Day demo will be on May 6th in the tent. I am looking forward to a fabulous and uplifting new year of the Cayucos Art Association. Thank you and enjoy new inspiration. ~Phil MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT: Post An Image On Our Website! CAA Gallery Director, Ingrid Goelz, continues to collect plastic bottle caps for future art projects. Ingrid creates beautiful Undersea Recycled Plastic Art. Below are two examples of her work. She uses bubble wrap, wine foils, plastic bottles, creamers, plastic bags, and other plastic items, with acrylic paint on canvas. Bring your plastic bottle caps to the Gallery to add to her collection.
6 Featured Artist: Phil FEATURED ARTIST: Philip Colaprete I love explosions of color with their excitement and beauty. I experience an active and living force from within myself that can be generous with inner joy, energy and aliveness. The Universe offers us an opportunity to be fully self- expressed and to share the creations with others out in the community, the world, and ultimately with all of creation. I have lived in Los Osos for the past ten years. Previously I lived in Carpenteria, south of Santa Barbara, for thirty years. While in Santa Barbara, I attended Adult Education and City College to study photography and art. My focus was on abstract and surrealistic art. I have continued my study of art and photography. I have recently taken some classes in ceramics. I have participated in displaying my creative works in galleries and various venues. Between 1988 and 1992, I entered two paintings traveling to various cities in California in "Healing the Wounds" (California Vietnam Veterans and the Arts), the brainchild of the late Leslie Freeland of Cambria, CA. Living on the Central coast has given me a new, fresh focus on my art and photography and I can look for the beauty. philipcola@mac.com Phil is a new board member, and as Vice President manages the monthly Fun Days and Demos in the tent.
