1 Kaplan High School Prom Guidelines 2019 Updated January 7, 2019
2 MAJOR INFORMATION When: March 30, 2019 Where: B.J. Bordelon Gymnasium Arrival Cutoff: 6:30-7:30 no late entry allowed Dance begins: 8:00PM Photos: 6:30-9:00 Senior walk: 8:00 Prom Ends: 11:00PM.
3 REMINDERS EVERYONE will be breathalyzed upon entering. As per the student handbook all juniors and seniors must have paid all their fees/debts in order to receive a ticket and/or purchase a guest ticket. Failure to follow the approved dress code will result in not being admitted to the event. All guests that do NOT attend KHS need a permission form (as well as their ticket) to enter, even if they have already graduated and/or are in college. The form will be available from Mrs. Katelyn or the front office It is the responsibility of the Kaplan High student to make his/her guest aware of our dress code. A student must be a freshman or older to attend prom. No one over 21 is allowed to attend.
4 Ticket Info All seniors receive 2 tickets free of charge. All juniors attending prom must purchase tickets during the two weeks prior to the event Single: $15 Couple: $25
5 Requirements for Tuxedos and Suits Those choosing to wear a tuxedo or suit must meet these dress expectations: Shirts must be long-sleeved, dress shirt with a collar. Top hats, canes, and gloves are allowed. Appropriate dress shoes must be worn. Cowboy boots, dress boots and athletic shoes are allowed. Flip flops are not permitted.
6 Allowed because they are formal tuxes or suits.
7 Not within dress code because none of these outfits are formal wear.
8 Requirements for Formal Dresses Dresses may be strapless, however, they may not be cut below the bust-line in the front. (This includes cut outs below the bust line.) No excessive cleavage will be permitted. Appropriate undergarments must be worn with your dress or top (built-in or separate). Dresses must cover the mid-section fully. Netting, mesh, illusion, chiffon or any other see-through material in the bodice of the dress is not acceptable. Opaque fabric must cover any see-through material. Two-piece dresses/outfits must not expose any flesh at the mid-section of the body (front and side). Dresses may not have a slit that exceeds mid-thigh. This includes side, front, and back slits. Dresses may be backless as long as they are not cut below the height of the navel.
9 Requirements for Formal Dresses, cont. The hemline must not exceed seven inches above the floor when in a kneeling position. Shawls, boleros, cardigans or wraps are acceptable but not to cover unacceptable dress Dress shoes are recommended. Sandals, cowboy boots, dress boots and athletic shoes are allowed. Flip flops are not permitted. In the event of an inappropriate dress, administration can require the student to wear a cover-up before entering the event.
10 Allowed because strapless is fine, and it s floor-length.
11 Allowed because the red sheer fabric has opaque fabric underneath, and that opaque fabric follows the dress code. The unlined sheer fabric is above the bust line
12 Allowed because slit is an appropriate length and strapless is allowed.
13 Allowed. The sheer fabric on the back is fine because open backs are allowed. The solid fabric of the front and sides follows the rules.
14 Allowed because open backed dresses are allowed.
15 Not within dress code because this dress is not long all the way around.
16 Not within dress code. These dresses do not follow code because the sheer fabric does not follow the dress code. For example, the midriff/sides can be seen under the sheer fabric or the solid color underneath does not follow the dress code. To be within code, these dresses would need an opaque fabric lining under the sheer parts
17 Not within dress code. This dress does not follow code because it s a two-piece that shows the midriff.
18 Not within dress code.these dresses do not follow code because plunging necklines are not allowed, even when covered with sheer fabric.
19 Final Reminders Seniors typically wear white, though it is not a requirement. For sheer fabric, ask yourself: If I removed all the sheer fabric from this dress, would the remaining parts of the dress follow dress code? If the answer is NO, then your dress is not within dress code. If you re unsure if your outfit will be turned away at the door, you can absolutely ask administration before you purchase it.
