Firefighter turnout gear is designed to protect the wearer against flames, sparks and embers. But what about the station wear underneath the turnout gear? Among the many perfect fuels for fire are 100-percent cotton and poly-cotton, and that s exactly what many firefighters are wearing on the job. The truth is that 100-percent cotton clothes become completely consumed by flames, and poly-cotton garments are worse they burn and then melt, greatly multiplying the devastating effects to human skin. INSEAM: Take a pair of pants that fit you well and measure from the crotch to the bottom of the leg.
