2 CLOSING DATES FOR ENTRIES The 2015 closing dates for entries are listed below. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED PAST THE CLOSING DATE FOR ANY SHOW SOCIETY OR SCHOOL. Closing Date means the last day that an entry can be received by the Co-ordinator at 38 Weekes Road, Carindale. Qld 4152 Please understand that a lot of work is required after the entries are received, so please do not ask for any extensions of time. ALL SCHOOLS (unless entering through your local Show Society, then dates below apply) Closing date: Friday, 24 th June. 3 Show Secretaries, Teachers & Co-Ordinators Please Note! Please photocopy complete original schedule and hand to all competitors WITH entry forms. The nominating Show Society is to be a member of The Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies. Please ensure that entrants in the Make and Model Competitions, read, sign and fully complete the Entry Forms when entering your local competition. If the entrant or model is under 16 years, their parent/guardian must also sign the entry forms. The 1 st and 2 nd placed entrants in each class from your competition are eligible to compete at the State Final. If your local show is run after August each year, your Show Society can still be involved with the competition by organising an outside of show event with entries closing as per the previous page. For Wearable Art - only the completed double-sided Wearable Art Entry Form, together with coloured photographs of the outfit showing front and back are to be forwarded as per the closing dates. The outfit is not to be sent to the State Co-ordinator, but taken to the final by the entrant. All costs incurred in forwarding the entries to the State Co-ordinator are the responsibility of the relevant Show Society or entrant. Please note if an entrant is not personally attending the final and their outfit will be modelled by a third party, the entrant is to either arrange for someone to take their outfit back or will need to provide return postage with their entry. No entries will be returned without pre-paid postage. Each Show Society is responsible for its own prize money and sponsorship. Conditions of entry are enclosed along with suggested guidelines for judges. If the Show Society is unable to organize the modelling portion of the competition, entries that have been judged in your relevant Sewing Section on the sewing content, suitability of the fabric as well as the suitability of the outfit for the class that it is entered into will be accepted. These should be forwarded as above. Judges, Co-ordinators and their families are not eligible to enter at their OWN show society competition. PLEASE NOTE: Each entry is to be a full outfit and each part of the entry MUST be made from fabric which is Natural Fibres or a blend of not less than 60% Natural Fibres (only exceptions are any linings and peticoats). (Does not apply to Wearable Art). No synthetic or man-made fabrics can be used in the upper garment. All other fabrics must be 60% or more natural fibres. Please remember this is a sewing competition! RESTRICTED CLASSES: Restricted classes are open to those entrants who fall within the relevant age requirements only. All outfits in these classes must be sewn and MODELLED by the entrant and the age of the entrant is to be noted on the entry form. Adults are not permitted to enter these classes. CLASS 1: SELF MADE JUNIOR SCHOOL - Grades 5 to 9 inclusive. Outfit can be for any occasion except swimwear or sleepwear. Garment is to be cut and sewn by entrant. May receive advice on how to complete. Purchase price of fabrics may not exceed $ (RECEIPTS MUST BE INCLUDED) A sample swatch of each fabric used must be attached to the entry form. CLASS 2: SELF MADE SENIOR SCHOOL - Grades 10 to 12 inclusive. Outfit can be for any occasion except swimwear or sleepwear. Garment is to be cut and sewn by the entrant. Purchase price of fabrics may not exceed $ (RECEIPTS MUST BE INCLUDED) A sample swatch of each fabric used must be attached to the entry form. If an entrant in Class 1 or 2 is unable or unwilling to model, they may find an alternative model, but the entry will be transferred into Class 3 Open Kids in Natural Fibres provided the outfit is for a person under 14 years or into the Open adult classes if the outfit is for a person over 14 years. ALL RESTRICTED CLASS ENTRANTS PLEASE NOTE: 1. You are required to read the General Terms & Conditions of Entry listed in this booklet. 2. ALL OUTFITS MUST BE SUPPLIED EITHER IN A ZIPPERED PLASTIC OR FABRIC BAG OR A PLASTIC DRY CLEANING BAG. All bags must be long enough to enclose the entire garment length. This is for the protection of your outfit. 3. An outfit that has been entered in previous years, regardless of placing cannot be entered again. 4. Entrants who have previously won, are more than welcome to continue entering with new outfits. 5. 5 OPEN CLASSES: Open classes can be entered by a person of any age, but the outfit must be made for a person 15 years and over or as specified by the class. CLASS 3: OPEN KIDS IN NATURAL FIBRES. (Entrant can be any age, but outfit must be for a boy or girl aged 7 to 14 years inclusive) Suitable for any occasion including formal wear. (no swimwear or sleepwear is permitted). Slacks and Shirt, Skirt and Blouse or Dress, formal wear, Shorts and shirt, Sports uniforms or play wear. A sample swatch of each fabric used must be attached to the entry form. Class 4: OPEN - ADULT DAYWEAR (not casual wear) Suitable for Race Meeting, Business Meeting, Garden Party, Wedding or any occasion. A sample swatch of each fabric used must be attached to the entry form. other non-casual daytime CLASS 5: OPEN - ADULT - FORMAL WEAR Suitable for After Five, Cocktail Party, Wedding Dress, Ball, Black Tie event, Opening Night or any formal evening occasion. A sample swatch of each fabric used must be attached to the entry form. CLASS 6: OPEN - GARDAM FABRICS - CALICO CAPERS - Gardam Fabrics will donate 5 metres of 120cm wide medium weight calico to be used by the first 20 only completed entry forms received. Please complete your entry form and it to natural.fibres.competitions@gmail.com. This will be forwarded to Gardam Fabrics who will post the fabric to you. Please note if however, your completed outfit is not received by the closing date for entries you will be invoiced for the cost of the fabric. So fill out the form now and send it. I will advise you whether or not you were one of the first 20 entrants. All entries in this class must be made from no more than 120cm wide, mediumm weight 100% calico. No other fabrics can be used in upper garment. Synthetic fabrics can be used for petticoats and linings if necessary for natural always works better. The calico can be dyed, painted, embroidered etc or treated to create the effect equired. Outfits can be for any occasion including day, evening and bridalwear. A sample swatch of all fabric used must be attached to the entry form. Class 7: OPEN - CASUAL/ACTIVE WEAR Suitable for any casual day wear. Eg. Barbecue, pool party, a day at the beach, sports uniforms or supporters outfit, gym wear, Resort wear. (No sleepwear). Eg. Jeans and top, track suits, swimwear (made from natural fabrics) and over garment eg sarong, slacks and top, t shirt and shorts, sportss uniforms, romper suits anything relaxing. If swimwear is entered, the outfit must be suitable for a person 18 years and over. A sample swatch of all fabrics used must be attached to the entry form. ALL OPEN CLASS ENTRANTS PLEASE NOTE: 1. 6 jxtütuäx TÜà VÄtáá PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS AN A ART AND DESIGN COMPETITION Class 8 Wearable Art - be as creative as you can be Design ideas are onlyy limited by your imagination, but you must explain your idea on the entry form. This is so the announcers can accurately describe your creation. Design can represent anything at all, all, BUT ONLY ONE OUTFIT PER DESIGN IDEA (ie not 2 outfits same idea, different lengths). competition Entrants in this class do not need to sew their garments as this is not a sewing competition. Purchased base garments can be b used and d embellished to create the required effect. Any materials/objects and construction method etc can be used to create the required design. Minimum entry age 15 years. years Models must be 15 years or over. Please ensure that the age of the model is appropriate to the type of garment i.e. if the garment is deemed to be an adults only type outfit, then the model must 18 years and/or over. A coloured photograph, front and back, must be attached to the entry form. The completed entry form and photographs can be ed to the Co-ordinator Co at natural.fibres.competitions@gmail.com natural.fibres.competitions@gmail.com. DO NOT SEND THE OUTFIT TO ME. THE ENTRANT/MODEL WILL TAKE IT TO THE FINAL. The entrant does not have to model their own outfit, but they do have to obtain their own model. This class is judged and modelled last and we are unable to alter the advertised parade times ti to suit entrant s travel or other arrangements. One entrant one outfit only. Entrants are not able to change during the judging or parade you must have a separate model for each entry. All entrants must read the Terms and Conditions of Entry listed in this booklet. All entrants must compete at their local show or school organised competition prior to the final. If an entrant is unable to find a local show or school is unable to judge, please contact the State CoCo ordinator to discuss alternatives. es. 7 General Terms & Conditions of Entry All Classes 1. This is a competition that promotes the Natural Fibres industries in Queensland. All parts of your entry (except linings and petticoats) MUST be made from natural fibres or natural fibres blend fabrics of not less than 60% natural fabric. Please note, entries not complying with this requirement will be disqualified. This clause does not apply to Wearable Art which can be made from anything. 2. The entrant is the person who made the garment. Each outfit is to be the bona fide work of the entrant. 3. IF ENTRANT OR MODEL IS UNDER THE AGE OF 16 YEARS THE ENTRY FORM IS TO BE COMPLETED BY THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN AND THE MODEL S PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS TO SIGN THE PERMISSION PART OF THE ENTRY FORM. 4. Each entry is to be a single complete outfit. An outfit may be entered into one class only. 5. If a garment has been entered at a previous State Final, that garment cannot be entered in any other classes or future competitions regardless of its placing. 6. All outfits (except Wearable Art) are pre-judged under Section A of the judging criteria prior to the State final. Accessories are only considered in Wearable Art judging. 7. The outfit is to be new, but pre-washing of fabric is recommended. Outfit is not to be worn prior to the State Final except at local show/school judging. Please keep your outfit clean! 8. An entrant may model one outfit only. If the entrant has multiple entries, they must find models for the other outfits. 9. No professional models allowed. Models can be students of deportment or modelling schools. The same person is to model at the judging and the parade. 10. All care will be taken of entries, but QCAS and the State Committee will not be responsible for losses, damage or non-delivery of any entries. 11. Judges and Co-ordinators and/or their immediate families are also not eligible to enter at the show where they judge or organise. 12. All entrants or their nominated representative are to sign for their garments prior to leaving the Dressing Rooms. 13. The age of competitors will be calculated from 1 st August in the year of the competition. 14. If the co-ordinator deems that an outfit has been entered in the incorrect class, he/she reserves the right to move the entry to a class which is more suitable for the garment. 15. Please note that only entrants OR their models and officials are permitted in the judging area and dressing rooms for the State Final. If the entrant is not modelling, the entrant cannot enter the dressing rooms or judging area. No parents/guardians are permitted in the dressing rooms or judging areas. 16. One teacher per school may offer their services as Stewards if they wish to, but they and their students must follow the instructions of the Co-ordinator. 17. All parents/guardians, entrants and models are to follow the directions given by any Steward of the Natural Fibres Creations. All Stewards will display identification. All stewards are current holders of the Queensland Working with Children blue cards. 18. If the final is held at the Ekka, the RNA may provide: a. 1 adult pass only per Natural Fibres Creations and Wearable Art entry (if the entrant is not the model, the pass is given to the model). b. 1 adult and 1 child pass only per children s entry (if the entrant is not the model, the passes are given to the model and his/her parent/guardian). There are no guarantees that any passes will be available. c. If you forget or lose your pass, they cannot be replaced. You will need to pay to get into the grounds. 19. Photographs official photographers will be in attendance at all competitions. You may purchase photographs (form is included in this booklet) for $3.00 each. Individual photography of the children by anyone other than a parent is not permitted. No group photographs are to be taken as not all people have given permission for their photographs to be used. No video cameras are to be used during the competition or the parades. Please respect the privacy of the entrants. 20. Teachers may take photos of their students only AFTER the official photographers have taken each student s individual photo and a group photo of the class. 6

8 JUDGING CRITERIA Please remember all fabrics (except linings and petticoats) MUST be natural fibres or natural fibres blend of not less than 60% natural fabric. Failure to meet this requirement will result in automatic disqualification. This does not apply to Wearable Art. All Classes except Wearable Art SECTION A DRESSMAKING SKILLS (Section A is judged the week prior to the final). Suitability and eligibility of fabrics used for the style chosen. 10 Cutting of fabric straight grain, bias etc for style and that the correct sides of the fabric have been sewn together. 10 Machine and/or hand stitching correct thread and colour of thread matches fabric, stitch size, tension of stitching and overlocking. 10 Finishing techniques on seams and hems including evidence that an iron has been used in the process. 10 Use of the correct interfacing, finishing and insertion of linings, insertion of zips, placement and finishing of buttons and buttonholes points SECTION B MODELLING OF OUTFIT (Judged at the State Final) Initial visual impact of outfit when modelled. Colour co-ordination of fabrics used. Fit of the garment. 30 Suitability of the outfit for the class and the occasion nominated. 10 Creative balance of the complete outfit (do not consider accessories) points TOTAL POINTS 100 Please note that if the outfit is not made from predominately natural fibres, then the outfit will be disqualified. (Linings and petticoats only can be from synthetic fabrics) WEARABLE ART Overall finishing to garment 10 Suitability of fabric/materials used for the design idea. 10 Artistic Design 30 Visual Impact of the garment for the desired artistic effect 50 TOTAL POINTS 100 7
