3 We Test Leather according to OEKO-TEX Standards LEATHER STANDARD Certification system for leather and leather products at all processing levels: Finished articles: clothing, shoes, handbags, gloves, accessories, covers Semi-finished products: wet-blue, wet-white, crust etc. Finished leather and leather fibre materials LEATHER STANDARD is of relevance for tanneries, leather goods manufacturers and traders, and sourcing offices. 4 LEATHER STANDARD Precondition for the Certification All parts of an article must meet the required criteria in addition to the leather, for example, also: Textile parts, such as textile fabrics, sewing threads, inserts, prints, labels Non-textile accessories, such as buttons, zip fasteners, rivets Conditions and criteria, which are applied: For the leather materials the latest valid LEATHER STANDARD for non-leather components contained - the latest valid STANDARD 100

5 LEATHER STANDARD What Does LEATHER STANDARD Take into Consideration? European and international legislation concerning, for example, prohibited azo dyes, chromium(vi), formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, nickel liberation, perfluorooctanesulphonic acid (PFOS) Numerous hazardous chemicals, even if they are not yet subject to statutory regulations Requirements of Annexes XIV and XVII of the European chemicals regulation REACh and the ECHA SVHC candidate list, in so far as they are of relevance for leather and leather goods Requirements of the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) relating to lead Numerous environmentally relevant substance classes such as alkylphenol ethoxylates

6 LEATHER STANDARD Intended Use of Leathers or Leather Products The greater the degree of skin contact with a product and the more sensitive the skin, the stricter the human-ecological requirements that have to be complied with. Accordingly, a distinction is made between four product classes: Product class I: Products for babies and toddlers up to 3 years age - leather clothing, leather gloves, crawling sheepskin, fur Product class II: Products that are worn close to the skin - leather trousers/-jackets, leather underwear Product class III: Products used away from the skin - lined leather jackets/overcoats, leather handbags, leather belts Product class IV: Decoration/Furnishing materials - upholstery leather covers

7 Your Way to OEKO-TEX Certificate at PFI Germany Send complete OEKO-TEX application together with the testing sample or article to PFI Germany The validity of the OEKO-TEX Certificate is 1 Year Extension is possible, additional lab tests and Re-Audits are necessary The test runs between 8-10 working days OEKO-TEX Certificate is issued, when the lab test and the audit are evaluated with PASS Upon completion of the lab tests, you will receive a OEKO-TEX expertise After successful lab test the Audit of the production facility (Institute Audit) takes place LEATHER STANDARD

8 LEATHER STANDARD Quality Assurance Measures And Aspects Declaration of Conformity With the signed declaration of conformity, the applicant/certificate holder agrees that the OEKO-TEX Association and the mandated OEKO-TEX Institute may carry out control tests on products certified according to the LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX during the validity period of the certificate to check compliance with the conditions and criteria required. Company Audits To specifically support and optimize operational quality assurance within the companies participating in the OEKO-TEX system around the world, the OEKO-TEX member institutes carry out an audit onsite with the applicant companies as an obligatory component of certification. Company monitoring takes place shortly before the time, or soon thereafter, when the certificate is issued and is repeated at least every three years. Control Tests The OEKO-TEX Association carries out control tests of certified products every year for at least 25% of all certificates issued. For this purpose articles with the OEKO-TEX label that are available in retail outlets and sample materials from the companies are tested. In addition, independent auditors also carry out random checks within the scope of unannounced company visits to companies with the OEKO-TEX certificate.

9 More Test Marks at PFI Germany Certification according to STANDARD 100 Verification of requirements for test marks Das Österreichische Umweltzeichen and the Blauer Engel Award of type-examination certificates (CE mark) for personal protective equipment (foot, leg, eye protection) Award of the GS mark (indicating that a product has been tested for safety) Certification according to the SG catalogue of test criteria (SG stands for Schadstoffgeprüft, i.e. tested for harmful contaminants) Award of PFI mark of conformity on the basis of project-specific requirements e.g.: Tested luggage Tested quality Tested for fit Tested for contaminants and workmanship LEATHER STANDARD
