2 The Dress Code In an UN Model is not only important that you address people in a polite manner and to learn the protocol for the flow of the debate, dressing properly for the event is key but also is a way to show respect. The UN Model is a formal event so it is very important that every delegate, guest, staff, chair and member of the secretariat follows a strict dress code to be presentable and stick with the formality of the event. The objective of this handbook is to help all assistants of ALEXMUN to have a clear idea of what is the allowed dress code to wear during the event. This will also include some recommendations for other things such as makeup, accessories and colors that may be used. There will be no exceptions with the dress code, so every delegate will be checked at the beginning of the sessions to make sure the dress code is being followed correctly. If there is a delegate that does not meet the dress code, they will receive a warning.

3 For her Clothes Everyone is expected to dress business formal at all times, this means, that female delegates should wear suits, formal slacks, skirts, blouses or dresses. When it comes to dresses, these need to be business-like, no party dresses allowed. Leggings are not considered as formal slacks. If you are thinking about wearing a skirt or a dress: make sure that they don t exceed three fingers up your knees while standing up. This means, no mini skirts nor dresses. No strapless dresses, if you are thinking about wearing a spaghetti strap dress make sure to wear a coat or sweater over it. Only neutral colors for your clothing (black, white, navy blue, etc) and no floral or any colorful pattern. Further in this handbook we will explain in more details which colors are allowed. Examples:

4 Shoes Ballet flats, or similar flats, and heels are allowed. Heels shouldn t be taller than 12 cm (4 inches) and this can t be open-toe heels. Sneakers, boots, sandals or any open-toe shoes are prohibited. The same color and pattern rules from the clothing applies to shoes. DO: DON T:

5 Makeup Appropriate makeup for the session is considered light and simple, the same color rule for clothes and shoes apply, no flamboyant colors. No heavy makeup look, we recommend some mascara and light eyeshadow, keep it subtle. If you wish to wear some kind of lipstick make sure it is a nude or light shades, no dark lip colors nor neon-like colors. DO: DON T:

6 Hair When it comes to hairstyles try to keep it simple yet professional, we suggest hairstyles such as: a bun, a ponytail, half up half down or worn loose. If you choose the latter option make sure it still looks presentable. Accessories We urge to wear as little to no jewelry or any other type of accessories as possible, if you do so please make sure they aren't extravagant looking or too bulky. Try and keep it simple with your jewelry.

7 For Him Clothes A suit is what the boys are expected to use. It is highly important that you wear either a bow tie or a tie, remember that no extravagant patterns or colors are allowed. Shoes Formal footwear is allowed, this does not include sneakers such as: converse, vans, etc. The color scheme of the footwear is limited to: brown and black. Clean them before the event if needed. Hair Any hairstyle is in order, as long as, this is not messy and looks professional. To avoid bed head or similar messy hair we urge to use hairspray or hair gel to slick down your hair. If you have long hair, if possible try to tie it up in a ponytail or bun.

8 Colors Colors, by their own, often convey certain emotions this is why you have to be very careful with the use of your colors during this type of formal events. Below there is a chart that will explain furthermore the meaning that each color may have. As you may see vibrant colors like red, orange and yellow exude a more fun and playful vibe. On this occasion this is not the type of energy you want to transmit. So be aware of your color choices. Another important aspect to take into consideration is the patterns, below are the ones you should avoid, but you can use some more simpler ones like stripes.

9 EXAMPLES OF DO S AND DONT S DON T: DO S: Over the shoulder dress, more of a party dress. Open-toe heels. Big earrings. Hairstyle, professional looking, nothing over the top. Makeup, simple and light. Dress color is neutral. DONT S: DO S: Tie, that color is too vibrant and we recommend using a plain tie. Hairstyle, is gelled back and neat. Suit, color is professional looking. Shoes are formal footwear. Belt can be used if needed, it should match with the suit. NOTE: If you choose to dress according to your country it is valid, either for men and women. Just remember to use it in a respectful manner.
