CREATING A COLOR CHALLENGE ENTRY DEBRIEFING KIT Thank you for choosing to attend 2017 Creating a Color Zoom Challenge Entry seminar. We are looking forward to a very creative three days: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Color Zoom 17 In-flux Concept and creation of mood boards Model workshop Photoshoot In this package, you will find: An In-flux Hairstylist Guide An example of a concept/story board Information on how to pick a model and wardrobe Information on how to properly prepare for the three-day seminar Tips and tricks to creating a clean canvas to begin your Color work A model information sheet In-flux Hairstylist Guide Within the Hairstylist Guide, you will find all the techniques that were used to create the Color Zoom Collection including step by steps for both the haircuts and the color techniques. In order to prepare yourself properly, please take the time to familiarize yourself with both the techniques and the finished looks. These will hopefully get your creative juices flowing in order to create your own In-flux interpretive shades. Concept/Story Board On Day 1: We will be creating a Concept/Story Boards as a tool to help organize our creative process. They are a vital part of your planning, and help guide you. They give direction and focus most artist can visualize what look they want to create. However, a Concept/Story Board will help to organize your concept. How you go about creating a Concept/Story Board is simple. Start by taking the time to do some research. It usually involves fashion, fabric, hairstyles, and make-up inspiration, which can be used to explain your concept to both the make-up artist and the photographer. Research should be fashion and hair magazines as well. Using the internet. The easiest way is to use Google or Bing and have fun. The examples below have some hair, make-up, fabric colors and fashion/wardrobe ideas. The more ideas you have the better you will be able to narrow down your image.

Begin by Googling images that fit your concept. Print them in full color. Clip pictures from hair magazines and fashion magazines that fit the Color Zoom concept. Collect images that represent your concept of Hair, Make-up and over all image. Pay attention to lighting and background. It also helps to collect pieces of fabric, and paint swatches. We will help you create the colors that you want to achieve. Bring all your pieces, clippings and ideas to the first day of the seminar, we will assemble them out and make a story board together as a group. Remember come with an open mind, after hearing the presentation on the In-flux collection you may want to change your idea. How to Pick a Model Model choice is very important to the success of your shoot. The first Priority is ask yourself will my model allow me the freedom to create what my vision is without limitations or boundaries? If you find a model asking Don t cut it too much, or constantly concerned about what color will it be or no extreme colors. Than you need to find a different model. When picking a model, it is best to pick someone who is open to any cut and color. Not only do they need to be open, but they need to have hair that will allow you to accomplish your creative technique. Choose a model that will not restrict your choice of cut and color. Choose a model that has a great personality. This is vital for the live competition when you win. Do an analysis of their hair, condition, past color services, strength and natural level. Make sure you model is willing to NOT color her hair for at least 3 months before the international competition as she needs a considerable amount of natural hair to color live. It is important to make sure that the model is photogenic. A great way to do this is to take a Polaroid picture (or use your phone) of the model and check to see that she appears well in the photo. Take pictures from all angles. Imagine your model not only in your completed photo entry but also on the runway when you win. She will be required to represent your work at the live ColorZoom competition and walk the runway with other models (from amateur to novice). Is she tall enough? Is she thin enough (yes, this matters), is she young enough (also matters). Please ensure that she has appropriate wardrobe as well. Bring several options. You are responsible for the wardrobe and it should be on trend and translate well in the live competition. Make sure you model will be available for the international Color Zoom date in October and able to travel to Barcelona Spain. Choose a model you can rely on. Choose a model that is at least the minimum age.
Wardrobe In this package, you will receive a Color Zoom Stylist Guide, use this as a guide for choosing your wardrobe. Feel free to also go to the Color Zoom website ( and watch all of the Influx videos. Look at the clothing for this year s In-flux theme. Buy an appropriate outfit to suit both your model and the theme. Here are some guidelines to choosing appropriate wardrobe: Stay clear of patterns unless they are very simple (but not recommended) as patterns can clutter and distract the hair in your photo. Choose less bulky clothes. Try to avoid high necks unless appropriate to the trend. No granny panties...they create panty lines under clothes! Keep accessories to a minimum. Preparation for the Three-Day Seminar In order to prepare yourself for the three-day seminar, it is important to make sure that you come equipped with all the tools that you will need: Blow dryer Brushes, combs, foiling comb Flat Iron Bobbi Pins Denman Brush Head sheets(will be provided) Concept/Story Boards Curling Irons (if necessary for your completed look) Shears and all other cutting tools Wardrobe for your model
Models Dos and Don ts Bring something to keep you occupied. It will be a long day of sitting around. Bring a pair of high heels color doesn t matter. This will help with your stance in the shoot. Make sure you get lots of sleep the night before the shoot. Drink lots of water the day before the shoot. Use Vaseline on your lips the night before the shoot. Make sure you eat a good meal the morning of the shoot. Bring snacks. Bring a black Bandeau with you. Do not wear under garments that will show through your wardrobe. It is okay to be nervous. We have highly trained people to help you with the shoot. Come the day of the shoot with no make-up on. Come with the attitude you and your stylist will win this year.
We look forward to seeing you over this three-day seminar. You will be able to ask as many questions as necessary. We will overview the In-flux Collection and the concept of Mood Boards. As a team, we will offer you tips and tricks on capturing your work in the best possible way. All color and coloring tools (bowls and brushes) will be provided along with styling products. We look forward to sharing a creative three days with you. One thing to keep in mind is that on the day of the photo shoot there will be lots of time to prepare. You will each receive time to shoot your look but as there is only one photographer, patience will be a virtue. For yourself remember to sleep well the day before. You want to be fresh and energetic for this photo shoot! We look forward to seeing you soon, You re Goldwell KMS Academy Team
