1 OSU Extension Service Benton County 4-H FASHION REVUE 2017 Sun, Surf & Style Saturday, April 22, :00am 4:00pm Judging 7:00pm Public Revue All enrolled Benton County 4-H members are invited to participate in our annual Fashion Revue Contest! Fashion Revue is a fun, educational, and a very special experience for 4-H members and their families. All the rules and details are explained on the enclosed information sheets. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
2 2017 Benton County 4-H Fashion Revue Saturday, April 22 nd, 2017 OSU Campus, Milam Auditorium 2520 SW Campus Way, Corvallis (see enclosed map) JUDGING TIME BLOCKS 10AM-4PM Scheduling will occur in 1 hour blocks. Blocks begin at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. SENIORS (ages 15-19): Will need to register for the 10am judging block. INTERMEDIATES (ages 12-14), JUNIORS (ages 9-11) & CLOVERBUDS (ages 5-8): Can register for any block between 11am 3pm. 4-H'ers must be ready to model at the beginning of their hour, and stay the full hour. It is recommended that 4-H members arrive 15 minutes before the hour to check in. PUBLIC REVUE EVENING EVENT 6:30pm Be dressed and ready to go! 7:00pm Public Revue THEME: Our 2017 Fashion Revue theme is Sun, Surf & Style REGISTER: To register for judging times, please call the OSU Extension office ( ) by WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19. Call early to get the time you want, first come first served. FASHION REVUE CATEGORIES There are THREE categories for the Fashion Revue Contest, see each of the descriptions for eligibility. 1. FASHION REVUE 2. READY TO WEAR 3. FASHION REVUE CHALLENGE After the evening Public Revue, the information cards and score sheets will be returned to the 4-H leaders. These documents will be helpful for county fair and record books. STATE 4-H WEBSITE FOR FORMS AND EVAULATION CARDS: 1. FASHION REVUE: Participants must be enrolled in a clothing, knitting, or crocheting project and model a garment made in the project. Cloverbuds are also eligible to participate in the category. A 4-H member may not enter the same garment in an exhibit class and the Fashion Revue. On judging day participants must provide: 1. FASHION REVUE CARD (320-06), provided within this packet and can be found on the State 4-H website. Attach a fairly large piece of fabric from your outfit to the card and completely fill out all sections of the card that apply to you. 2. COMMENTARY see details in this packet minute PRESENTATION about their learning & involvement Judging criteria is outlined on the FASHION REVUE EVALUATION SHEET (320-05) available in this packet and can also be found using the link above. Judging will include an interview where judges may ask the participants to explain decisions they made when creating their garment(s). 2. READY TO WEAR: Any 4-H member can participate. Participants may combine newly purchased clothing with up to two items or accessories they already own to present a Total Look including shoes and accessories. Newly purchased items, including accessories, must
3 make up a least half of the items in the outfit. Cost of newly purchased clothing including accessories is limited to a total of $25 or less. On judging day participants must provide: 1. FASHION REVUE READY TO WEAR INFORMATION CARD (320-08), provided within this packet and can be found on the State 4-H website. Fill out all sections of the card that apply to you. 2. COMMENTARY see details in this packet minute PRESENTATION about their learning & involvement Judging criteria is outlined on the FASHION REVUE READY TO WEAR EVALUATION SHEET (320-07) available in this packet and can also be found using the link above. Judging will include an interview where judges may ask the participants to explain decisions they made in selecting the items they purchased. 3. FASHION REVUE CHALLENGE: This new category is open to all Junior, Intermediate and Senior 4-H members. The 2017 Fashion Revue Challenge is COSTUMES. Criteria includes: 1) at least 50% of the costume must be sewn, knitted or crocheted by the member, 2) any materials to create the costume is acceptable as long as criteria #1 is met, 3) costumes created for a school or community theatrical production are acceptable as long as criteria #1 is met. On judging day participants must provide: 1. FASHION REVUE - CHALLENGE INFORMATION CARD (320-10) provided within this packet and can be found on the State 4-H website. Fill out all sections of the card that apply. 2. COMMENTARY see details in this packet minute PRESENTATION about their learning & involvement Judging criteria is outlined on the FASHION REVUE CHALLENGE EVALUATION SHEET (320-09) available in this packet and can also be found using the link above. Judging will include an interview where judges may ask the participants to explain decisions they made when creating their garment(s). MORE INFORMATION PRESENTATION AS PART OF INTERVIEW: New this year for ALL Junior, Intermediate and Senior Members participating in ANY of the 3 categories, participants will give a 1 2 minute presentation as part of the interview judging process. This presentation is a section of the judging criteria on the revised Fashion Revue evaluation sheets. Presentations must be at least one minute in length and no more than 2 minutes. The presentation is a way for participants to share about themselves and their involvement or learning in the 4-H clothing and textiles project area. COMMENTARIES: All participants must and bring a typed commentary ( words) to be read when they model during the judging and during the public revue. A commentary example is included in this packet. Please use your own words for your commentary, don't use the exact words on these examples. Mix up the different items (description of garment, construction, etc.) in your commentary. Use a creative first sentence and ask your leader for help. Some commentaries may be changed due to length, number of participants, etc. You should write a minimum of four sentences! The typed description should be on a regular 8½ x 11 sheet of white paper, double spaced, in 14pt Times New Roman font. Commentaries should primarily focus on the construction and purpose of the garment rather than the individual s involvement in 4-H, fair, school or other activities. The typed description should not include information that would be considered too personal (i.e. size of garment or something really embarrassing) nor provide too much private information (address, town, school, etc.) as these commentaries are read in a public setting. Completed COMMENTARIES should be ed by WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19 to the Fashion Revue Chair, Rebekah.ballard@gmail.com. Please include your name, division and club with your narrative. MODELING NIGHT: Experienced 4-H members will teach youth modeling skills, as well as having an information session on hints for Fashion Revue. This is a great session for youth new to modeling! Modeling Night will be held at Milam auditorium on OSU Campus at 6pm on FRIDAY, APRIL 21, This opportunity is optional but RECOMMENDED. Please wear the shoes you'll wear with your outfit if possible. Also, please bring a copy of your commentary.
4 AWARDS: Blue, red and white ribbons will be provided for all Junior, Intermediates and Seniors. Green participation ribbons will be provided for all 4-H Cloverbud members. Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons will be given for all age divisions. The top 10% of all Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors (excluding champions and reserve champions) are eligible to receive special ribbons called Judges Choice. The judges will select 4-H ers who did something extra and/or special on their outfit or who impressed with their modeling. STATE FAIR: Each county may enter 3-8 members in each Fashion Revue class based on the total number of combined Intermediate and Senior participants in the County Fashion Revue contest: Under 20 participants 3 contestants per class 20 to 29 participants 4 contestants per class 30 to 39 participants 5 contestants per class 40 to 49 participants 6 contestants per class 50 to 59 participants 7 contestants per class 60 or more participants 8 contestants per class CHAIRS: Rebekah Ballard, Travis Hinz & Maddie O Hare-Gamache BRING COOKIES: Each participant is responsible for bringing one dozen or more cookies to their judging session. The cookies will be available for the public following the Revue at 7pm.
