1 Garment Concept The theme for our 13th annual Stitch is: Art STITCH d! For the runway extravaganza, teams are to select an art piece that inspires them and bring it to life! Maybe it s a painting, a sculpture, or installation. Or maybe it s an animation, photograph or graffiti?! The possibilities are endless! Get creative! Garments should be conceptual rather than literal representations of the chosen theme. Feel free to introduce color, pattern, texture, or spice things up with some different scales to help your garment catch the judges' eyes. Be sure to check out the 2018 Awards Categories for further inspiration. Let s make the 13th year of Stitch unforgettable! Garment Entry Rules 1. Garment Team Registration must be completed via Google Form by January 8, Final Team Information and Garment Submission Requirements (list of team members, sketch for program PPT, runway music, etc.) must be submitted for each garment apart from the Google Form via to iidaillinois@gmail.com by February 2, Only the first 40 entries will be accepted due to limited runway time. 4. Following entry acceptance, each team will be informed of their assigned theme. Themes will be assigned on a first come first served basis. Teams will be notified of their designated theme prior to the charrette. 5. The design team is limited to 6 teammates and 1 model. Manufacturers are responsible for procuring a design team. All teammates, including the model, must be 21+. Teams will be assigned 1+ student(s) to assist their team. The student(s) will not be counted as one of the six design teammates and/or model unless specified as such. 6. Garments must be designed and constructed by the design team. Garment teams may only consist of product manufacturer(s) and designer(s). Teams cannot include fashion houses or practicing fashion designers. Teams may not hire outside parties to construct their garment. 7. Garments must be constructed of the material(s) provided by the product manufacturer sponsoring them. The majority of the visually exposed portions of the garment should represent the material(s) the manufacturer produces, supplies or distributes. 8. Models must be able to walk up and down stairs and pass through a standard 7'x3 doorway while wearing the garment. 9. No live animals are permitted.

2 10. The Stitch Committee reserves the right to ask the team to modify their design upon submission to avoid disqualification. Model Rules 1. Each team is allowed one model allowed per garment. Models can be whomever your team decides. Team members are encouraged to model, but professional models are also accepted. The model does not need a ticket for the event. Models may join the party after the show. 2. Models are required to participate in the rehearsal. Rehearsal begins the day of the event at 4:00 PM. Do not bring your entire team to the venue for rehearsal. Models may be accompanied by 1 assistant. Model assistants will not be allowed on stage. 3. There will be no hair and make-up artists available at the venue the day of the event. Hair and make-up is left to the discretion of the team. Team members are encouraged to be creative with the entire package. Space is limited at the House of Blues. Plan accordingly. 4. Doors open to the public at 6:00 PM. The show begins at 7:00 PM. An itinerary outlining the time for models to arrive, rehearsal, show-time, etc. will be distributed one week prior to the event to all participants. A floor plan to map out your walking path on stage will be provided as the event date approaches. There will not be any additional stage rehearsal times provided other than prior to the event on the event day. Any given team will be ineligible to win an award if the team s garment(s) is not in line with the rules detailed above. 3 Garment Submission Garment Team Registration: Teams must register via Google Forms by or before January 8, 2018, providing the following information: 1. Design Firm Contact Information 2. Sponsor Firm Contact Information 3. Top 2 Concept Choices 4. Company Logos 5. Garment Submission Payment. To register your team, click here. Final Team Information and Garment Submission Requirements: Teams must submit the following items for each garment design to the iidaillinois@gmail.com by February 2, 2018 at 5:00 PM. 1. Sketch: Provide a conceptual sketch of your garment to be used in promotional materials for and at the event. Your sketch should be submitted as a hi-resolution JPEG. Please note that this will be included in the program PPT. 2. Concept: Provide a statement about the garment(s) in 100 words or less, describing the concept of the garment(s), materials used, etc. The emcee may or may not use this to narrate while the model is walking the runway. It may be used in promotional materials. Practice reading your statement while your model walks prior to the event. 3. Music: Provide an MP3 or YouTube clip of the preferred song that will be playing while your model is walking the runway. Include the start time for the clip. Please plan for a two-minute walk. 4. Team Information: Submit your final list of team members and model(s) name. 5. Signatures: Your submitted Google Doc, containing team information, will take the place of a signature. A final garment submission template to be used in the program PowerPoint will be sent by the Stitch committee closer to the event date.

4 Award Categories The Michelangelo Judge s Award Best overall concept, use of materials, construction, fit, uniqueness, attention to detail, model performance and overall presence. Our judges will be asking: How memorable and inspired is your garment? Is it imaginative, inventive and innovative? Will everyone be talking about it for weeks after the Stitch show? Musical interludes excluded. The Salvador Dali Best Concept to Creation The garment that is truest to the design team s conceptual sketch and execution of that concept. Our judges will be asking: How strong was the initial concept? How well was the final product executed in relation to that concept? How well were the materials illustrated and used? Construction and fit will also be considered as part of concept execution. The Leonardo da Vinci Best Use of Material Best use of material or product in a unique fashion, execution, construction method and fit. Our judges will be asking: How unique is the garment material in relation to how it was used to construct the garment? Did the design team consider the construction method? Is there a clever use of material and attention to detail? Was thought given to the materials or products life cycle relative to its usefulness after Stitch? The Vincent van Gogh Best Hair & Makeup Best styled hair and application of makeup. Our judges will be asking: how did the hair add to the overall look? How well was the execution of the concept within the makeup? How creative was the final look? The Andy Warhol People s Choice We will use Instagram for real time voting for People s Choice. Stitch Charrette Mix, mingle & ask questions. Small mixer to review the rules with the team captains & team members. Final Submission Deadline Logos, sketch, concept statement, team and model names, artwork chosen, and signed garment entry rules for each garment submission. Refer to page 3.
