1 DESCRIPTION Fashion Merchandising II is the second in a series of assessments designed to measure student knowledge of entry-level business and fashion fundamentals. Topics include: elements and principles of design, color theory, wardrobing, fashion marketing, basic fashion and business concepts, size categories, and caring for clothing. Total Test Questions: 67 Levels: Grades Units of Credit:.50 Prerequisites: None STANDARDS, OBJECTIVES, AND INDICATORS STANDARD 9 15% of Exam Blueprint UNDERSTAND THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF COLOR. Objective 5: Identify symbolism for eight colors. Explain hue, value, and intensity. Identify the five basic color schemes. Identify the elements of the color wheel. Identify the four personal seasonal coloring types. STANDARD 10 13% of Exam Blueprint UNDERSTAND THE ELEMENTS OF DESIGN. Identify and provide a definition for each of four elements of design. Identify each of the following lines: straight, jagged, curved, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. Identify four different textures and describe the visual effect of each. Identify the following shapes: full, wide; trim, compact; straight, tubular; form fitting. STANDARD 11 10% of Exam Blueprint UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN. Identify the four principles of design and provide a definition for each. Identify how each design principle can be used to enhance a person s figure. Identify five common body types and list two clothing items to avoid and two to choose when selecting clothing items Page 1 of 3

STANDARD 13 13% of Exam Blueprint UNDERSTAND HOW TO CHOOSE CLOTHES THAT ARE APPROPRIATE FOR THEM AND THE BASICS OF PLANNING A WARDROBE. Identity three benefits of wearing clothing that is right for you. Identify ten accessory items that can help complete outfits in a wardrobe. Identify three examples of wardrobe extenders. Define: basic apparel, investment dressing, extenders, and wardrobe plan. STANDARD 14 20% of Exam Blueprint UNDERSTAND THE TYPES OF BUSINESS OWNERSHIP AND BASIC ECONOMIC TERMS. Define the following terms: primary market, secondary market, tertiary market, retailing, sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, risk, and risk management. Identify the types of risks faced by a fashion business Define the following terms: globalization, imports, exports, balance of trade, supply, demand, law of supply and demand, profit, and trade quotas. STANDARD 15 16% of Exam Blueprint UNDERSTAND BASIC SKILLS TO HELP THEM BE SMART SHOPPERS AND MAKING GOOD PURCHASES. Define: hangtags, labels, and packaging. Define the following terms: Permanent Care Labeling Rule and Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. Identify the four kinds of information that must appear on labels of all textile products sold in the United States. Define: comparison shopping, value, low quality garments, medium quality garments, and high quality garments (including the 5 characteristics of high quality garments). List ten specific points to check when judging the quality of a garment and explain specific items for each. Objective 5: Identify five ways to check the fit of a garment when trying it on. Objective 6: Identify five ways of paying for a purchase and list two advantages and two disadvantages for each Page 2 of 3

STANDARD 16 UNDERSTAND SIZE CATEGORIES FOR CHILDREN, MEN, AND WOMEN. Identify the seven age-related size categories for infants. Identify the four size categories for toddlers. The following performance skills are to be used in connection with the associated written exam. To pass the performance standard the student must attain a performance standard average of 8 or higher on the rating scale. Students may be encouraged to repeat the objectives until they average 8 or higher for the following elements: PERFORMANCE SKILLS STANDARDS STANDARD 9 Prepare a report on a color. Create a poster for the color and show: Samples Symbolisms Moods STANDARD 10 Create a sample for each of the five basic color schemes. STANDARD 11 Find a picture of an outfit that would improve the way your figure or physique looks. Describe how the elements of color, shape, line, and texture are used in the outfit Describe how each element enhances your appearance P a g e 1
5 PERFORMANCE SKILLS STANDARDS STANDARD 12 Prepare samples of the two types of balance, warm and cool colors. Show apparel that make people look taller and thinner, and shorter and wider STANDARD 13 Prepare a personal wardrobe consisting of eight pieces of clothing. STANDARD 14 Using a map of the world, identify the location where 10 items of clothing were made. STANDARD 15 Describe an apparel item you would like to purchase and list three places you can get the item. For each location, compare: Price Quality Return policies STANDARD 16 Create a line of licensed clothes for children, using an existing designer, company, or brand.
