UV lamp: reaction of different types of diamonds under LW and SW UV light PRACTICAL WORKSHOP Samples of Ia, IIa, IIb, Ib diamonds (natural and synthetic origin) and mixed types are tested with microscopes, UV lamp and CPF (portable polariscope) for natural or synthetic origin

Clarity Enhancements - unstable (Fracture Filling), 2. Clarity Enhancements - stable (Traditional Lasering, KM Laser drilling) 3. Processes for colour treatments of diamonds, natural and synthetic 4. Color Enhancements - unstable (Coating) 5. Color Enhancements - stable (irradiation, annealing, HPHT, multistep treatments) 6. Testing and screening methods for treated diamonds with standard instruments DIAMOND TREATMENTS advanced instruments After testing and screening with standard instruments, the diamond in question may then also be sent to an advanced lab for further testing and exact determination of color origin with VIS-NIR, FTIR and PL spectrometers (advanced and research instruments). 7. Identification methods for treated diamonds with advanced instruments at labs 8. Post treatments of HPHT-grown (irradiation) and CVD-grown diamonds (HPHT) 9. 4 ½ Day Course (Adelaide Only) Identifying Diamond Types and Synthetic Diamonds with UV lamp,microscope and Cross Polarized Filters Instructor: Branko Deljanin, B.Sc., GG, DGA, FGA, DUG Lecture and practical workshop The use of treatments based on high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) annealing, low pressure annealing and irradiation with energetic particles with the aim to alter the colour of diamonds has become increasingly popular in the past 10 years. Diamonds can be also grown in the laboratory (HPHT or CVD) and these synthetic diamonds could be colourless (type IIa), yellow (type Ib) and blue (type IIb). You will learn to identify different types of diamonds and synthetic diamonds. You will also learn about - possible treatments/synthetic diamonds and their relation to types in order to know when to send stones to an advanced lab for further testing for natural, treated or synthetic origin.
