s, s, Everywhere s Oh, Ain t The Farm Life Great! We welcome you to our Affair to Remember II as we usher in this wonderful holiday season in 2006. We missed seeing all of you here last year, but due to business obligations and the illness of our wonderful parents, we were forced to wait a year to bring you this offering. During this waiting period we expanded our herd, had funerals for both parents, and welcomed our first grandchild into the world. What a combination of events to occur in one year! We were fortunate to be able to purchase the Grandview/Triple H herd from Virginia Hathorn following Stanley s death in 2005. This has broadened our base and increased our pedigree line to be able to offer you a broader choice. Stanley had a wealth of breeding knowledge in these animals and we are proud to offer some of that experience to you this year. Sadly we are also missing our great friend, Zack Dismukes, and our beloved Diane Smith. They are gone but not forgotten! Our first grandson, Reece Stone Whaley, was born on September 6 to Cameron and Erin one day before the birthday of Truman s late father, Carl Whaley. We feel that this child was sent to fill the void that was felt in the passing of this wonderful man on Dec. 30, 2005. Carl would be so proud of another Whaley son to carry on the name he bestowed on Truman 60 years ago. Truman s mom, Christine Whaley, left us in May 2006. Both of these strong people influenced and nurtured the beginning of Whaley Polled Herefords, and you honor them with your presence on the Whaley farm. Through the purchase of the Grandview/Triple H herd, we have been en able to expand our genetic base with years of breeding experience with the great Victor line. As a result, we have been the recipients of Stanley s forward thinking Reece in his out-crossing program and you will be able to purchase some of those results in this sale. We have continued expanding our base and infused some great genetics with other bloodlines from some of the best breeders in the industry. We feel that there is something for everyone in the offering this year. We continue to use the services of the great Victor 4009, Key Master 125L and P606 in our program as well as the addition of Remitall Patriot 13P, Olympian 262L, World Class and Top Secret. Add to this mix the clean-up services of the Stanley Hathorn-bred 251ET bull (which is a Boomer 46B out of the immortal J30) and we feel we have great power in our bull pen! Please join us on Friday night, December 1, for a fun-filled evening of food and entertainment. We promise to start your holiday season off on a good note. Where else could you attend a great coming-out party for debutantes in Georgia in December? Our girls are getting ready for your viewing pleasure! Besides, you can do your holiday shopping early we have lots of Christmas presents! We hope to see you in December. Truman and Starr Whaley 2 An Affair To Remember II Dec. 2, 2006

Welcome to the 2006 edition of the Whaley Polled Hereford Production Sale. It has been an honor to work with the Whaley family as their herd veterinarian for over 20 years. I was fortunate enough to work with Truman s dad, Mr. Carl Whaley, when he cared for the cattle. Now, Truman, Starr and their family are carrying on the tradition in a great way at the Whaley farm. Tim Connell, James Ponders and their staff also do a great job. Herd health has always been important with the Whaleys. The program consists of a comprehensive vaccination program with all cattle being vaccinated for IBR PI3, BVD, BRSV, 5way, Leptospirosis, Vibrosis, 7way Clostridium and Pinkeye. The heifers are calfhood vaccinated for brucellosis. Cattle are dewormed on a regular basis, with dewormers being rotated to prevent parasite resistance. The herd is both certified Brucellosis Free and Accredited Tuberculosis Free. The Georgia herd number is 278. As always, we will be present on Saturday to write health certificates on all sale lots and Dr. Rebecca Knowles and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the herd health program here at Whaley Polled Herefords. Sincerely, Voted 2004 Best Sale Crew An Affair To Remember II Dec. 2, 2006 3

What a way to start a catalog! 6002 is the result of mating Patriot 13P and W215, our first homegrown donor. W215 brings extreme maternal value to this mating. She s out of the highly regarded 4009 bull that is known nationwide for his maternal contributions to the Hereford industry. One of our first times to utilize Patriot in our donor program was with W215. The results, as you can see, have been better than we could have imagined. The ability to add this much muscle and mass in a complete, yet free-moving, package is phenomenal. Adding all of the maternal traits of W215 and the power of Patriot and combining that package with an actual birth weight of 76 lb., this is a true breedchanging bull. This bull truly is the embodiment of his name. Webster s defines synergy as a combined action of two which is greater than the independent action of the others. This bull is truly synergistic. The mating of Patriot and W215 produced the same great traits as 6002 but in a female package! We could use a lot of adjectives to tell you how complete and yet feminine 6001 is but one look will convince you of the potential that this heifer has. Whether she goes to the showring or the donor pen, she will excel beyond your expectations. Her birth weight of 74 lb. only adds to her value. This is a heifer you could build a herd around. So don t become one of the wish I had made one more bid guys and miss the train! Co-owned with JKM Land & Cattle. An Affair To Remember II Dec. 2, 2006 5

She has the position of being 4 in this catalog, but as most of you who follow baseball know, the fourth position is referred to as clean up which is reserved for one of the best players. Diane Stanley Zack 16 An Affair To Remember II Dec. 2, 2006

Every morning each year in the fall when the sun is shining through the trees, I have this wonderful surprise when I start out our driveway. In the brisk early morning air, the beautiful rays of the sun are shining through the branches and streaming onto the driveway at our home. As I drive east out of the driveway to begin another day, I am awe-struck by the wonderful beauty of nature that greets me each sunny morning. There is confirmation that life is beginning again and the warming rays comfort the soul. It is an assurance that there is someone more powerful taking charge of our existence. It s that same reassurance that comforts us through the tragedies that we have experienced the past two years since our first sale both in our personal lives and that of our Hereford family. At this point two years ago, we were relying heavily on our wonderful mentor, Zack Dismukes, to give us his years of wisdom and experience in planning our first production sale. He was as proud as we were when the sale far exceeded our expectations. But Zack always told us that if we gave our all and tried to offer our best, then we would be successful no matter what the average was. He will be greatly missed at this sale as he is every day of our lives. We often tell Dot to please ask Zack what he thinks about a certain animal when she speaks with him each night. Sometimes we feel his presence at the sales guiding us in our decisions. The only thing Zack loved more than his precious Dot and this Hereford business was his God. Zack s faithfulness is one of those rays shining through the branches in the morning air. Diane Smith was one of my dearest friends, both personally and in this wonderful cattle business. I could always pick up the phone and get a reassuring voice at the other end telling me that yes, I was crazy for being in this cattle business and, yes, it was worth it for the friendships. Diane loved this crazy business and loved the people even more. She gave me a copy of the book A Purpose Driven Life after her heart surgery and told me that she was giving it to me because she cared about me and the book had changed her life. Diane s life had always had purpose to those of us who knew her well. She made you feel special each and every time she was in your presence. She lit up every time she watched one of her dear grandchildren in the showring. Her love of family and her devotion to her Maker left a mark on all of us. Diane s caring spirit is one of those rays shining through the branches in the morning air. Stanley Hathorn affected our lives both during his life and after. His booming laugh and wonderful insight into this breed endured him to everyone he met. Stanley intimidated me for the first couple of years I was around him until I discovered the teddy bear of a man that he really was. Stanley loved his cattle and loved talking about them, but loved sharing that passion with all he came in contact with. He especially loved teaching his grandchildren the art of caring for the cattle and guiding them into the showring. Virginia was probably the only one that he was never able to bend to his control. She was the love of his life. We have been blessed to be given the opportunity of purchasing his herd and we re sharing some of those wonderful genetics with you in this sale offering. His program continues as does his influence in our breeding program. Stanley s love of life and determination beams through the branches in the morning air. We buried both of Truman s parents this year and that loss is felt in our lives every day. Every place that we look on this farm holds a wonderful memory of each of them. They would be so pleased to welcome all of you to their little piece of heaven on earth. We have been fortunate to be able to purchase the entire farm so their legacy will continue to live on. They are the strongest rays shining through the branches in the morning air. As I reflect upon the lives of these wonderful people who have influenced the direction that we have taken in our lives and in this business, I am comforted with the knowledge that they are still among us sharing their wisdom, their wit and their passion for living. And as long as we carry their legacy in our hearts and feel their presence in our daily lives they will live forever shining as rays through the branches in the morning air. W225 has always been a very good cow and an excellent producer. When you study her pedigree, one can understand her greatness. With 4009 as her sire, you can see where her long body, easy fleshing and superb udder comes from. Being a double-bred 964 and having the J.R. Gloria cow family on the bottom side, it is just icing on the cake. If you are looking for low birth weight and high yearling, then look no further. A birth weight of 0.5 and a yearling weight of 55 puts this cow in an elite club. This cow will give someone the opportunity to get birth weights under control. Terms of sale will be announced sale day. As an added attraction to this great cow, on Sept. 12, 2006 she had a heifer calf by Rusty with a birth weight of 72 lb. What a fitting end to this footnote.
