FCS Middle School Dress Code First Christian School has adopted a strict dress code policy for all middle students. We believe there is a direct relationship between a student s appearance and their attitude and conduct. In addition, one of the key words at First Christian School regarding dress is modesty, which the dictionary defines as: Not thinking too highly of one s self; humble. Held back by a sense of what is fit and proper; not bold nor forward. Not calling attention to nor exposing too much of one s body, decent. Not conspicuous nor gaudy, humble in appearance. Staff, students, and parents must make it a priority to uphold the appearance standard that has been approved by the administration. Dress Code infractions will be issued after October 1 st for all students who are out of compliance. Parents will be notified via a dress code infraction slip when a student is out of compliance. In some cases the parent will be contacted to bring the proper dress code items to the before morning break at 10:00 AM. Three dress code infractions, per trimester, will result in the loss of free dress Friday for the duration of the trimester. In the event of a fourth dress code infraction a one-day suspension will be enforced. Missed class time due to dress code violations will result in an unexcused tardy for that class period. It is our desire that students learn how to choose dress consistent with the standards. Specific changes in a student s dress or grooming may be required at the written request of the administration if it is felt to be inappropriate. Polo shirts may be purchased from Lands End with our logo or taken to Napa Valley Emporium to be logoed. Lands End will give back 3% of all uniform purchases for the year to FCS because we belong to their Preferred School Program. Lands End can be accessed online at www.landsend.com with the FCS School Code: 900131756. 6 th 8 th Grade General Dress Code Guidelines School Colors are navy blue, light blue, black, white, and gray. Hair: Must be neat, clean, well groomed, and styled so it is not in the student s eyes. No tails, Mohawks, shaved sides or in hair. Boys should not wear hair longer than the top of the shirt collar. Pants: Must be and free of holes. They may not be overly tight, lose or baggy. Fitted dress jeans are permitted. Capri Pants: May be worn by girls during the months of April through November. They must be and free of holes. They may not be overly tight, lose or baggy. Leggings: Must be and may only be worn under skirts of appropriate length by girls. Shorts: Must be and free of holes. They may be worn during the months of April through November on any day. Shorts must be no shorter than 4.5 inches above the knee. Basketball shorts are not permitted outside of PE. Shirts: Must have a collar (i.e. Polo), be in solid, and free of pattern. Shirts that are longer than waist/hip length must be tucked in. All shirts must have the FCS logo. Napa Valley Emporium, for a fee, will add our shirt logo to any shirt. Shirts may also be purchased from Lands End with our logo. Skorts and skirts: May be worn by girls and must be and of modest length (no shorter than 2 inches above knee). Skirts must be worn with modesty shorts, tights, or leggings at all times.

Dresses: Girls may wear dresses that are or a combination of and of modest style and length. No shorter than 2 inches above knee and must cover full bodes without gapping when bent over. Dresses do not need be logoed or have a collared shirt under them. Sweaters, sweatshirts and hoodies: Must be or a combination of. Hats: Fashion and sports hats are permitted to be worn outside only. Should be. A combination of is permitted. Ugg s in are permitted any day. Crocs are permitted on free dress days only. Flip flops, slippers, and roller shoes are never permitted. Shoes are to be clean and in good repair. Heals may not be higher than 1 ½ inches. Socks and Undershirts: Should be. Socks are optional for girls. Girls may wear skin colored nylons, or black, white, or navy blue tights under a skirt only. PE Are required for PE. Shoes should be running grade tennis style shoes. PE shoes do not have to match and should be worn only during PE. Improper PE shoes will result in a dress code infraction. Vests, zip-up sweat-shirts, sweaters, and light weight jackets: must be. Heavy coats: Do not have to be. Raingear: Do not have to be. Backpacks and lunchboxes: Do not have to match and may have print or positive characters. Characters that are violent in nature or death glorifying are not permitted. Spirit Wear: Is permitted to be worn any day except Wednesday for chapel. Spirit wear consists of hoodies in with block FCS lettering, FCS athletic t-shirts. FCS athletic jerseys may be worn on game day by athletes only. Accessories: Are permitted. They must be modest and complement the outfit. Boys are not permitted to wear earrings. Girls may wear earing that are modest in size, do not hang lower than the jaw line, and are not distracting. Other piercings are not permitted for either gender. Girls are not permitted to wear ties. Belts should be only and will be required if pants are too baggy. Tattooing of any sort is strictly prohibited, this includes drawing on oneself. Makeup: Girls are permitted to wear makeup. It must be a modest amount and no dramatic are permitted. Heavy black eyeliner and black lipstick are not permitted. PE: PE dress consists of a combination of the following in, except for white: basketball shorts, t- shirt, elastic ankle sweatpants, non-zip-up sweatshirt, and base layer for warmth. Socks in any color. Athletic shoes, not required. Logo not required. A detailed dress code schedule is listed below for each gender.
