LETTER TO PARENTS During this year management undertook a review of the current uniform worn at Cornerstone Christian College (Busselton Dunsborough campuses). As most parents are aware the uniform, its specific items of apparel and the way it is worn, has been in a state of flux since changes came about at the end of 2015. It has been our desire to provide direction to parents and students, and to instill confidence in the approach taken to improve our uniform. The first stage we reviewed was to define our Uniform Philosophy. This explains the rationale upon a uniform and the elements it comprises. The next phase was to outline, for each year grouping, how the roll-out of the new uniform would occur. This is detailed further in the following pages. Uniform Philosophy The College uniform shapes the appearance of each student and the way students present themselves within the College and to the community. It provides a strong sense of connectedness to the College and, in particular, to the College s culture. A common uniform removes many of the negative attributes of dress and appearance through the reduction of appearance competition, attention-seeking, social standing and identity alignments. Instead it allows students to focus on character development, one of the key aspects of our College, valuing students as unique individuals created in God s image. In keeping with these ideas, the College uniform is to be worn correctly in and out of school hours, positively identifying students with the College. The inclusion of a uniform at Cornerstone also works alongside our intention to train students in respect, both for themselves and for authority, in conjunction with the policies of the communities in which they live. To serve the students and their development the uniform requirements should adjust as students move through different year groups. The continuum shown below displays how that is achieved, with increasing formality as uniform items are added. To serve the parents of our students the uniform should be serviceable and have a consistent theme to assist affordability. Uniform Overview LOW HIGH P 2 3 6 7 12 Active Wear. LEGEND * Microfibre Tracksuit This is the new style tracksuit that will be worn by all students. There will no longer be a division between Primary and Secondary allowing a seamless transition. ** Rain Jackets These are for external wear only and will not be permitted to be worn in the classrooms. They are not a substitute for the Wool Jumper. Items that are depicted within this category will become the formal uniform. When a student attends an excursion or event where the formal uniform is required these items will be expected to be worn correctly. OPTIONAL These items are being superseded and will be discounted for purchases from 2017 onwards. Some of these items will continue to be sold throughout, until stocks are cleared. These can be purchased for home-use only as they will not be permitted as College uniform from onwards. Examples are: airflow sports shorts, and older style tracksuits. SUBLIMATED - In sublimation, the inks are fused into the fabric as opposed to sitting on top of the fabric such as in inkjet or screen printing.
