WIGGING Class one - Curls, Curls and more Curls Its time to start class we will give everyone 2 minutes and then hold our first contest of the day... Before we begin... here are the rules... #1 - lets keep all personal chit chat till the end - so our non English speaking friends have an easier time translating #2 - I will explain a section and then open the floor for questions... this allows a great flow of topic - without being confusing #3... Moonyeen is taking notes and transcribing them for me to post on my website tomorrow morning... (or as soon as she has them set) There are no other notes needed... So good Morning everyone! Ready to start? One way to make sure you are not kicked out of classroom... is to make sure and answer yes, no or whatever when I ask a question SOOoooo with that in mind... (we are almost full - how nice!) Lets begin... CURLS As I start the wigging class series (Each Monday at 11am)... I want to evolve into hair styles. BUT first - as always we need to understand the techniques in making the actual hair style. Sooo lets begin with curls Curls... are very important tool in wigging but often are overused over curled and just over ugly <G> hahahah Think of long strands of Victorian perfect curls

sticking straight out on an otherwise beautiful Victorian dress! Soooooo Lets learn how to cut divide spread out pick apart and TEASE curls into creating a more realistic hairstyle. 1. BASIC CURL There are 3 styles of curls that I create. Spit curl (the tiny ones around your face) Tendrils (the soft dreaming ones that escape a bun) Sausage curls (think little house on the prairie/victorian hard ringlets) Questions on what any of 1-3 look like? I know you are another language - so no worries (you can read the notes ok?) Alrighty recap: 3 types of curls Now to the next section... 3 different ways to MAKE curls A) Make the curl and clamp with flat iron/hair straightener to truly set B) Make the curls by wrapping around knitting needle and after letting dry about 5 minutes pull off and let the damp curl loosen by itself C) Wrap your curl (around a LARGE knitting needle) solid and cut apart (or pull apart) to make PUFFs of hair. So to recap: A) flat iron B) damp curl c) puff curls (and yes I will go into detail about the technique for each). Did everyone see the 3 techniques for curls (A-C)? No photos - today is just a warm up class with descriptions and class notes Alrighty... Lets go into curl making techniques...

A) Take a small section of viscose and gently pull both ends (DO NOT CUT) until you reached the desired width/length of hair (this isn't rocket science hahah - no measurements - just trial and error of practice) In fact --- in class - I usually start out having the girls make 25 curls - and out of that - usually 10 are wonderful to use. BUT they get a chance to practice). Ok... back to Technique A Take small section of viscose mist both sides lightly with distilled water and a drop of downey (green is best) and for our foreign friends - this is simply fabric softener and run viscose thru your fingers. THEN wrap hair around a knitting needle, (think wrapping floral tape around a flower stem) and repeat (until the knitting needle is filled) THEN take your hair straightener (or flat iron - same thing) and clamp on viscose turn, clam on viscose turn until the hair actually becomes shiny then you know it is *set*. The MORE hair (fiber) you put on the knitting needle --- the FATTER the curl The LARGER the knitting needle - the LOOSE the curl Questions about Technique A (using a flat iron)? Jennifer S not about iron, but we have blue Downey, never saw green will that matter? Karin_Lambert Does the flat iron work better than air drying or putting in warm oven Jennifer - not really - I just like the way that green works - seems silkier for some reason <G> Karin - for me definitely YES! Alrighty... Lets move on to making damp curl styles If you look at Margo (Deb hahaha)... the latest class I taught - or can see on my webpage homepage... The curls are curls... but a bit softer The way I did this... was wrap the curls around knitting needle (see directions above)

Marilyn_filter When you say 10 is that 0 needles fill BUT after 5 minutes (and no flat iron) I pulled them off dampish THEN carefully glued them on her head (one at a time) and let the doll dry overnight (i.e. curls) THEN styled. The weight of the curls softened the ridges/curls and make hair a bit more realistic... then straight up *ironed/ringlets). (Marilyn --- I ask the girls to make 25 curls - (however many they can fit on a needle) and then choose 10 that are *perfect*... Now.. once the damp curls have been attached to the dolls head the weight of the curls overnight soften the actual ringlet I can then - next morning - gently pick apart some of the sections to loosen up the curl (more on styling the curls in section #3). Right now we are just going over techniques Alrighty... the last style is the #3 - PUFF CURLS If you take a larger knitting needle - say 8 American and wrap viscose around it...tightly and set the hair with the flat iron and LET COOL at least 20 minutes WHEN you pull off this big log type curl You can actually cut it apart... in sections... and use as Flapper *C* type curls (or pull both ends and this makes a little type of rat (teased hair) that can be used under her hair style on top of her head for buns etc Alrighty ---- that is the 3 ways to create the curls A) Flat iron B) damp curls C) puff curls Any questions on making these? Ok - before I begin on the 3 ways I use curls (style) Deb --- I know you agreed to a special on viscose hair today - for us... whoo hooo what is it? (for those that need to purchase)

Deb L Deb L Deb L glory418 Jennifer S ALSO.. a BIG Happy hug to Deb Laue of Dragonfly for supporting our classroom for the entire year!!!! THANK OU!!!! Any quantity of viscose at the quantity price of $4 plus $3 postage no matter how many yards are ordered Perfect Deb - I just ordered black! hahah - how many colors do you have? 10 colors Just send me list and paypal funds to me thank you Deb No Fear pricing! We can play with our curl techniques Awesome! Ok - so ladies - after class - if you want to get hair to use in the next two months of wigging classes - you now have a source! Alrighty... lets get to the last section of today's wigging class... CURLS Jane Thank you Deb The 3 STYLING TECHNIQUES 1. Puzzle piece 2. Fake height 3. One continuous motion For class today... we have discussed 3 kinds of curls... (spit curl, tendril and sausage curl) 3 techniques to making these curls (flat iron, damp and puff curls) Deb L Just send me list and paypal funds to me Now lets discuss 3 styling techniques 1. PUZZLE piece... This is my favorite. for this month on the list we have lavish Victorian For anyone trying to duplicate this complicated LOOKING hairstyle by using one long continuous piece (make sure you drink lots of wine hahahha) NO seriously... If you view a hairstyle as a BASE Middle (can't think of name)

and frosting you will dissect the hairstyle into 3 different parts. Say a wigging cross... that covers the entire head in hair 2. Then you glue on a top bun (which makes it a basic hairstyle) 3. THEN add some forehead bangs and tendrils (as an accent/frosting on a cake) Basically --- you see a hairstyle pick it apart in your minds eye to all the little puzzle pieces you need to glue on to make it a whole hairstyle Questions on the puzzle piece theory? Styling #2... FAKE HEIGHT Think Marie Antoinette or a stylish beehive 60 60's hairdo or Gibson girl bulk at the sides You can achieve all these with different sections of the *PUFF* Curl... glued on head... and then teased into combining with a wigging cross or other curls to make the hair LOOK like one hairstyle. FOR example... Marie Antoinette... I like to do a wigging cross (to cover the whole head with hair) Then I take one of my larger puff curls... glue it to the very TOP front of head... and back tease with a corsage pin to give it height. THEN hairspray the teased curl lightly and DAB it with your finger to shape it into a round or oval shape (HINT HINT.. I cover my finger with plastic wrap and then dab the lightly misted hairstyle) you can shape it all kinds of ways! Once you get the height you wish... simply glue on 3 more lateral curls at the back (horizontal) to cover the back of the head! Add a front curl, tendrils and a whole hairstyle has just been born!

Jennifer S nathalie G nathalie G nathalie G nathalie G Questions on the THEORY of Fake Height with curls? when gluing the puff curl, do you glue the end of the curl or the center/curve to the head? what do you do with your wigging cross hair? you tight them upwards? Jennifer - yes! before gluing the curls over them? Nathalie G - I gather at top like Arianna Grande ponytail - wrap with thread and cut off excess. This then gives a base to the PUFF (height curl) ok makes sense ty You are welcome! First one - Continuous motion style! Jane Oh my goodness yes, thank you yes! We had puzzle technique the Height technique NathM I don't understand what does it mean and now... we will discuss the continuous technique (or how to pick apart curls to make wavy hair... instead of lots of curls hair) ok? Here we go... This style has a bit of practice before you can achieve it. Basically what you are doing - is making a larger curl... (say on size 5 American knitting needle) and after the curl is set you pick it apart with two corsage pins... to make into many little wavy strands of hair Soooo visualize ONE CURL then holding it with two corsage pins using one to gently separate the fibers so there are lots of wavy hair strands instead of one big curl You then glue these sections on doll's head

DianaF Susie_M and you get a wavy continuous flow of hair Questions? Alrighty my ladies... that is class for today! A bit over the 30 minutes... but I hope you enjoyed and learned something new. Next Monday is our next wigging class - as we go into different ways to make buns and braids! When I want to make a Grace Kelly style hair with that one curl on the back what kind of curl must I use? Could Deb repeat the special today? Conny I would like braids and buns! Jane Tendril Perfect! Big hug to all - gotta go to the studio and work! HAPPY CREATING! Marilyn_filter How to get info or class notes. Think I missed previous times Deb L I will post it to the list in a few minutes with a link EXTRA INFO from Evening Class This class is on Curls 3 different kinds 3 different techniques 3 different styling techniques OK... here are the biz notes I will be hosting a class each Monday at 11am and 7pm CST at least till the end of the year. Next week we go into buns, braids and bumps... (or the things that give shape to your elaborate hairstyles) Moonyeen is writing up the notes - to send to me and I'll post them under LEARN on my website late tomorrow Notes compiled and edited by Moonyeen Moller - Moonlight Miniatures.
