IMMA IDENTITY Our identity is not just a logo. It is a design scheme composed of a number of core elements that come together to create a distinctive look and feel that makes the IMMA brand instantly recognisable. The following pages guide you through the core elements. They will assist you in designing and producing compelling communications with a high degree of creative flexibility. IMMA P.5 / 38

IMMA IDENTITY MISSION IMMA connects audiences and art, providing an extraordinary space in Ireland where contemporary life and contemporary art connect, challenge and inspire one another. We share, develop and conserve the Irish National Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art for now and for the future. IMMA P.6 / 38

IMMA IDENTITY VISION IMMA creates the present in a place of history. IMMA P.7 / 38

VERSION.1-12.17 IMMA LOGO IMMA P.8 / 38

LOGO Common Use Logo The IMMA logo is comprised of two core elements, the word-mark and the logotype. The two elements can act independently of each other depending on context. For internal use, it is not necessary for the two elements to remain locked together. For external use, the logo must appear in its complete form at all times. 01 Word-Mark The IMMA word-mark is the lead element in our graphic identity. It is used in the logo but can also be abstracted to become a decorative graphic representation of the brand. 02 Logotype The logotype is made up of the Irish Museum of Modern Art name in both Irish and English. This has been specially created using the primary brand typeface, NB Grotesk. 01 02 IMMA P.9 / 38

LOGO Single Language Logo An Irish only version of the logo is available for use where it is deemed inappropriate to include the full dual language version. This version should only be used when the context it exists in is also specifically Irish only. The use of the single language logo can only occur with prior approval by the IMMA Brand Manager/ Communications team. IMMA P.10 / 38

LOGO Minimum Small Use Screen Size 21px Minimum Screen Size 48px Minimum Small Use Print Size 3mm Minimum Print Size 11mm Clear Space To ensure that the logo retains its impact, it is important not to crowd it by placing text, images or other graphic elements within the designated clear space shown here. At any scale, this clear space is the same size as the height of two of the lines in the title. This forms an invisible box around the logo where no other text, images or graphic elements should appear. Scale In order to maintain legibility it is necessary for the logo to have recommended minimum sizes. When preparing artwork for reproduction in print the logo should not be used smaller than 11mm tall which gives an 8pt type size. For use on screen a minimum height of 48px is recommended. There is no maximum logo size, however scale and context of the application should always be considered. Small Usage Mark This simplified version of the logo for small applications comprises of just the IMMA word-mark. This can be used in instances where the full text title of the Museum appears in close proximity to it or where it is deemed not necessary to include the full logo. Any use of word-mark only logos can only occur with prior approval by the IMMA Brand Manager/ Communications team. IMMA P.11 / 38

LOGO VIDEO USAGE Video Usage The logo should appear consistently in scale and positioning when used as a title card in video. In a 1080p HD context the full height of the logo should be 140px and be vertically and horizontally centred. In alternate formats, the visual proportion shown here should be matched. 140px 1920px 1080px IMMA P.12 / 38

LOGO BOOK USAGE BOOK TITLE BOOK AUTHOR BOOK TITLE BOOK AUTHOR Spine Word-mark The IMMA word-mark should always appear on the spines of artist books. On IMMA publications and when possible on contributing publications it should read from top to bottom following the orientation of the title text. The scale should be determined by that of the text or any additional partner logos. If additional logos are to appear, a proportionate visual balance must be achieved with hierarchy being provided by order and not by scale. The minimum spine width to accommodate the wordmark set horizontally is 20mm. The word-mark should never be reproduced smaller than the minimum height of 3mm. Back cover Logotype The dual language logotype should appear on the back cover of artists book when appropriate. This should be positioned in the bottom left corner. When the logotype doesn t appear on the back cover, the full logo lock-up comprised of both the word-mark and the logotype need to appear in either the front or end matter of the book. IMMA P.13 / 38

TYPOGRAPHY FONTS NB GROTESK DISPLAY ABCDEFGHIJKLMN Neubau Grotesk DISPLAY NB Grotesk was originally developed in 2008 for the Neubauism exhibition taking place in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. NB Grotesk is a constructed monoline neo grotesk typeface which is based on Gandl s diamond grid system. The experimental typefaces concept is dominated by the fact that no optical corrections were allowed which resulted in NB Grotesk s raw characteristics. This raw tone adds an appropriate personality to our display and headline typography. Our custom display weight of NB Grotesk was created for IMMA in order to provide optimum legibility when used to typeset the Irish language. IMMA connects audiences and art, providing an extraordinary space in Ireland where contemporary life and contemporary art connect, challenge and inspire one another. We share, develop and conserve the Irish... Post Grotesk is a is contemporary version of the traditional grotesque sans-serif with very sophisticated and beautiful linear forms with low contrast and generous x-height. Very relaxed fit gives this font elegance in display sizes and it also works very good in a body text. With subtle additions of personality and unique details in letter forms, Post Grotesk reduces the typical rigidity of grotesque typefaces. To be used for the bulk of communication text excluding titles, subtitles and image captions on designed materials eg. events calendar, exhibition guides, school and residency packs. We share, develop and conserve the Irish National Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art for now and for the future. Bold The Arial typeface is one of the most widely used designs of the last 30 years. Drawn in 1982 by Monotype Imaging designers Robin Nicholas and Patricia Saunders for use in an early IBM laser printer, Arial has become a staple for textual content. It is available as part of the MS Office suite and across various platforms making it ideal for shared or internal documents. This is pre-installed on all computers and should be used as the default for all documents, letters, emails, presentations etc. It should only be replaced by NB Grostesk where possible and appropriate. VERSION.1-12.17 IMMA COLOURS IMMA P.17 / 38

PRIMARY COLOURS Colour is a core component of our visual identity and our primary palette is used in corporate collateral. The IMMA identity is led by a predominant use of black and white in combination with image and/or colour from our primary or exhibition palettes. Corporate Collateral includes, but is not limited to, business cards, letterhead, and other stationary items. Any external use of the IMMA identity should be limited to black and white. EXHIBITION COLOURS Our secondary palette is formed by exhibition colours which are chosen in one of the following three ways: A Fair Land C10 M28 Y100 K2 R217 G180 B25 Picking a complimentary colour based on the lead image. Referencing a colour from the artists back catalogue. ROSC 50 C30 M0 Y100 K0 R202 G209 B34 Choosing a colour based on one of the main installation pieces. IMMA P.19 / 38

COLOURS IN USE The variety in our colour palette is representative of the diversity of the work IMMA exhibits and the spectrum created by this system is designed to develop and change over time. When choosing a colour, the tonality of the existing palettes should be considered. New selections should either be in line with the primary colours or in direct contrast. The range should be diverse but complimentary and avoid clashes. LAYOUT FOOTER LOCK UP Main Galleries, West Wing / Until Mon 28 Mar / Admission is Free / IMMA presents the first Museum exhibition by one of Ireland s most compelling and respected artists Grace Weir. Garden Galleries / IMMA Collection Until Sun 7 April / Admission is Free / The role and function of the artist s studio is an underlying theme in this selection of works from the IMMA Collection which is curated in three exhibitions, floor by floor. sense. Describing himself as a media sculptor, he takes his ideas to various manufacturers such as photo-printing houses, billboard printers, and media buying agencies and only sees his work when it is realised in city centre sites, the subway and other urban locations. Footer Lock Up Our footer lock-up consists of the dual-language logotype, the museum address and contact information. Above this information is the allocated space for sponsor logos as well as the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht logo which should appear on all collateral. This footer formatting should be used on the rear of all exhibition guides and event calenders, with the IMMA word-mark appearing on the front cover.
